hannibal
My fault, I meant buying a $400 toy for their kid to play with....I know people will pay big money as I just sold my 10175 for $550 We already discussed that. The SSD is UCS Collectors/Display set. It is NOT for play, it is for admiration & appreciation. You buy this for yourself as an adult or grown up kid who is already old enough to know this. You just have to live in the right neighborhood.
brettj666
Exactly. Is it "your fault" if a customer buys a SSD from you, then gets home, puts it together, and realizes that the only part their kids can play with is the bridge section? Of course not. But in the long run, you want your customers to associate buying from you with purchases that make them and their families happy. Absolutely. And if in my discussions, they really do want the bigger model, woo hoo, only happy to do that for them. Although, my 'bring it to shows' model of the 10221 has had its box take a beating, so that's the one I opened and am now building.
brickolodon
I don't know many people spending $400+ for a toy so I don't have to worry about this ...i just sold dino HQ set for 300.00 and its for kids bday...here we go...from grandma.

Although, my 'bring it to shows' model of the 10221 has had its box take a beating, so that's the one I opened and am now building. That's just ridiculous. It says "16+" right on the front of the box. It is not a seller's responsibility to interview every potential customer to find out why they want to buy an SSD and for whom. No one asked me why I wanted an SSD when I bought one from Lego LEGO Shop at Home, so why should we feel it necessary to ask our buyers? If a customer asked for my advice to help him/her pick out an appropriate set for his/her kids, that's totally different. Then I'd go out of my way to showcase a variety of sets and explain the pros and cons of each, but if a dude just says "I want to buy an SSD", then I sell him an SSD. You don't know people that aren't willing to pay up which is fair enough. Everyone has a different circle of friends and customers. Someone else can also say to you "I don't know anyone who plays with lego sets under the price of $200. This is a grown man's collection, not meant for kids. Only duplo is meant for you." As a matter of fact, those who I've sold to are mainly into bigger sets. Modulars, UCS, tower of Orthanc, TB, Eiffel Tower, etc...so the argument goes both ways. I find it really hard selling smaller sets than I do with big sets. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

trekgate502
I can say that I used to think the SSD was an extremely ugly boring set. With all the hoopla, I bought 4 and what is worse I want to keep 1. (not sure I will). It is a safe bet, and I got mine at or below retail. But it is amazing what the hysteria can do to you on liking a set

I have actually started a building thread for the 10221, it may help some of you resist the temptation to open a new SSD.. http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/10600-building-star-wars-10221-super-star-destroyer/

marcandre
I listed one yesterday for 650 (free ship) and it sold already. My second one in a week. Demand appears to be high right now. fwiw I don't think its smart to sell now but I bought six from the last batch and could only afford four. Not flipping any more. waddamon
Good for you, did you start higher and go down to $650.00 and was it buy it now /how long did it take for someone to pull the trigger? I won't be selling but it is an exercise in buyer behavior.

It would be a good idea to hold some or you'll regret. Just look at the history of some big sets and you'll get a good idea what the SSD can pull in.
