This is another cool set that I've wanted since 2012 when I came out of my dark age.

Set 7780 : The Batboat: Hunt for Killer Croc was part of the Batman 1 theme (2006-2008).  The set consists of 2 minifigures (Killer Croc and black / gray Batman), the Batboat (more like a swamp hovercraft), Croc's speedboat and jet-ski for Bats.  Both small vehicles can connect to the Batboat independently.

It retailed for $19.99 in 2006 with 188 elements.  It can be bought used for between $75 and $130 depending on condition and completeness.  Most eBay auctions are missing something when listed (manual, Killer Croc, stickers, etc...).  Like most Batman 1 sets, many dark grays and blacks are used.  Thus, following building steps in the manual and online PDF can be hard due to the dark tones used in the booklet.

- The Killer Croc minifig and the 2 croc printed wedges (used on his speedboat) are exclusive to this set. As of July 2014, Killer Croc is only 1 of 2 original miniftgs not refresh yet from the Batman 1 theme (Alfred being the other).  This version of Batman was included in 2 other sets.  According to Bricklink's last 6 month of sales, new condition Batman average $18.50 while Killer Croc is $26.26 averaged. The lower than expected price of Croc is due to over 120 $20 sales during the last 2 months.  The lowest priced new Croc currently available are $37 (100 of them).  The latter 2 sentences might explain why I usually see many eBay 7780 auctions are "Croc-less".

That Crocboat looks like early Chima to me. Ha. :P Well here is another set I was hoping to see you review.

Actually, the Croc Swamp Hideout would be perfect for Killer Croc

I do like the Batman 1 boxes. Nice slightly embossed front artwork / design.  Like many pre-2010 manuals, alternate builds are pictured at the back of the last manual.

notice how more contrast is needed for dark bley bricks from blacks.

Dang, now I really want to build my Chima sets like right now.

True that.

I do remember the nice boxes and I kind of miss having alternate builds in the back of the manual even if I never actually built them. Although I do recall putting together the lightsaber thingy you could build from the original X-Wing Starfighter back in the day. I tried swinging it around a bit and the thing fell apart in my hands. Definitely could have used some Technic axles through the middle.

Nice little set! I picked one up in a used lot and brick linked the few missing pieces. Unfortunately, no Killer Croc. I can't decide whether to keep it or sell it. If I sell, I don't think I'd buy Killer Croc. If I keep it, I would want to buy him. I have a big problem buying bulk lots - I end up wanting to keep them all!

The set in my pics are of my 2nd 7880. I couldn't pass this one up since it had the box and unused stickers. My other set doesn't have the box and I needed to purchase the stickers and manual separately. I'll end up selling one of these to pay for a 7886 Harley Quinn's Hammer Truck.

Too bad you missed the bricklink blowout of new $20 Killer Crocs. Have you checked if more $20 ones were listed?

Personally, I would keep the set. It's a great little one. Too bad Lego didn't include one or two crocs with it like with the Bad Cop set ;)
