first picture shows the front gun turrets from a 7163 Republic Gunship. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7163-1 gw- EDIT: windscreens in the 2nd picture also go with 7163

i'm gonna go with 8058: Guardians of the Deep. you're looking at the shark's back and upper jaw.
-
almost true - the restaurant is actually $159.99 in the US.
-
given the price point, it's interesting that the set number doesn't start with "one-zero". could this be exempt from the "no-discount on exclusives" rule? i used to be a simpsons fan, but haven't really thought about them for years. an interesting choice between this @ $200 and Orthanc for personal collection. gw-

a lot of people use these (I have 4): http://www.homedepot.com/p/Stack-On-39-Compartment-Storage-Cabinet-DS-39-12/100023878 gw-

Buy Used Parts, Build Used Sets, Here's What I'm Looking For
gwilkx replied to justafrog's topic in Odds & Ends
You can upload bricklink XML files into rebrickable. There's a section for "my parts", you can have multiple parts inventories, then go to the Build screen, leave everything blank except the checkbox for " include my parts", and you're there. A list of sets you can build or almost build. You can then export a list of the parts you'd need to complete a certain set, and upload it directly to a bricklink wanted list. -
Just be careful when using "auto fill MIN". Some stores will list the same part in new and used condition in their inventory, and if your wanted list doesn't specify part condition for each lot then you will end up with both in your cart. I frequently have to go through my cart and remove duplicates.

I will buy this instantly for my collection. And I'm guessing it's going to be 1,200-1,400 pieces, similar to vader's tie and the x-wings.
-
The only thing worse than a ton of stickers is stickers across multiple pieces, which it appears this has a bunch of. I thought Lego was done with that?
-
Honestly, it's a pretty funny show, although very annoying at the same time. It's on Netflix and my youngest loves it. We would definitely buy this set (though more likely we'll just build it from out parts library :)

I think you have to know what your goal is first. If you're just trying to identify what sets may be present, that's one thing. If your going to sell it off in mixed bulk lots, that's another thing, and if you're planning on building your own parts library or bricklink store, then you have to go all the way. I just went through a 90lb lot with over 200 figs that were all jumbled up - individual hands, legs, arms everywhere. Old Harley Quinn's head with Han solo's torso and one orange arm, one blue arm - that kind of thing. First sort (1 big bin for each category): all bricks (including modified), slopes, plates 4x4 and up, plates that aren't a square or a rectangle, plates 1-wide and 2-wide (same bin), anything that's 1x1, anything with printing or a sticker applied, all wedges and hulls, all minifigs parts and accessories, anything technic (except bricks), and anything "interesting" (like a slope in a rare color, an odd vehicle plate, anything that might lead you directly to only a handful of sets). I throw things like telescopes, goblets, coffee cups, "flames", bones, barbs, binoculars, and loud hailers in with the 1x1's. And then 1 bin for everything else. Second sort: the "everything else" bin gets sorted into big pieces and not big pieces. Plates get sorted into 1-wide, 2-wide, 4-wide, and 6-wide. Bricks get sorted into 1x2, 1x3, 1x4, 1x6+, 2x2, 2x3, 2x4, 2x6+, and everything else (1x1x5, 1x2x2, 4x8, etc.). Slopes (both regular and inverted in the same bin) become 1x2, 1x3, 1x4, 1x6, 2x2, 2x3, 2x4, anything thats 2 bricks tall, and everything else. Third sort: 1x2 plates get separated into modified and regular. If you are trying to re-create sets, you'll spend a lot of time going through modified 1x2 plates, so you can certainly subdivide these. Same with 1x2 bricks. If you're going for sets or inventory, then technic gets sorted into axles, connectors, lift arms, pins, gears, and everything else. The "everything else small" bin from the 2nd sort gets all the handles, panels, seats, stop bars and light saber wands, and barrels/ trash bins/ container boxes pulled out. The "everything else big" bin gets all windows/ doors, and windscreens pulled out. Target has these cheap bins that they sell in bundles of 5. I think they're 6qt bins with your choice of green or grey snap on lids. They're like $5.25 for 5 bins. I got 40 of them at first, and also used large Lego PAB cups for some parts. That ought to give you a really good start.

I would definitely grab the x-wing for $100. It's a great model (some may argue that of course) and ver impressive on the stand. You could even part it out and make quite a bit of profit.
-
I've used this. Once you fill your 5th prescription, they snail-mail you the 5% off certificate, which you can indeed use for a whole day at as many different targets as you like. A nice bonus - they also send you a promo code to use online for 5% (one order only), and it also stacks with redcard. Downside is you only have a month before the coupons expire. Still, I find that since I can buy from amazon with no tax, it's mostly a wash. Unless target has a big sale or something while your coupon is still good.

Ideas #004: 21103 - The Delorean Time Machine
gwilkx replied to Mos_Eisley's topic in LEGO IDEAS / CUUSOO
Target.com also has them for RRP. gw- -
We are fortunate, no doubt. I try to hit each once a month (I have a pick-a-brick addiction, and it's nice to have 2 full walls to choose from). To the OP: if you have to choose just one to visit, the tax rate at Park Meadows is 3% less than at Colorado mills due to city and property improvement levies.

I've been there several times. They sell individual mini figures primarily. You can also buy some small sets that have been parted out (ie: just the cannon from a SW battle pack with no figs for $6). At any given time, it seems they have 2-3 sets for sale, but that's not really what they're about. They had a 6210 in the box for a while, and a UCS darth maul bust (used). Prices are high on everything. They do have a boba fette from cloud city if you've never seen one of those (I think they want $350). The cart is typically mobbed with kids drooling over the figures (they have hundreds). There are 2 Lego stores however - one to the south of Denver (Park Meadows mall), and one to the west (Colorado Mills).

Just picked up 41015 Friends Dolphin Cruiser for my niece. Just sitting there on the shelf at Target @ MSRP. Official release isn't for another 2 weeks. Interesting (and great) thing - the box has 3 factory seals on each side of the box instead of 2. I certainly hope that becomes Lego standard. Passed on 4 Bug Obliterators at 50% off.

Name ONE recently EOL set (last 1-2yrs) you would pay full retail for?

I mostly use my points to reduce the cost of sets that I want to build. Like a 9515 Malevolence. I want to build it, but not enough that I'll pay $95. So I get one with a damaged box from warehouse deals on amazon for $81 and throw $21 in points at it to book it as a $60 expense. Or a 10228 HH for $38 (threw $100 points in), or a couple of battle packs for $5 each. If I happen to pass on a set, and then decide later that I have to have it, I would throw some points at it to get it near retail, if I want to build it. I don't typically use them to reduce my cost basis on an investment set, though I have done so just to achieve round numbers sometimes (like 2 Unexpected Gatherings for $100 instead of $111.46) Not all points are "free money" but the amazon card really is (no fees, free money to spend on amazon), so I do tend to use them for things I may not use my own dollars for on that particular day. That's just how I look at it. The additional capital perspective is also valid. I could use the points to buy paper towels instead, so it is no doubt real money, but I'm mostly in this to build cool sets with the family.

So what are your opinions on Amazon Prime?
gwilkx replied to DoNotInsertIntoMouth's topic in Amazon.com
I love it. Don't forget - those times where you need something right away - I don't know, like ink for your printer, a battery for your wife's fancy watch, or a birthday gift for someone, you get next day shipping for $4.99 per item and don't have to leave the house/ stop on the way home from work, whatever. I think if your serious about Lego collecting or investing, it's a must have service. If you order more than 2-3 items a month (anything), no-brainier. Also, perhaps I've been luckier than some, but I've only received 2 damaged boxes since I've had prime -
At that price, I would build it in a heartbeat. Or sell it for $900, buy a used one and pocket the few hundred difference. Too cool of a model to pass up for me.

It doesn't show up until the last screen of checkout. There is a button to "redeem my points", and if your merchandise total is over $80, it should activate one code for $6 and one code for $8. I was actually able to get it to work 2 days in a row, for $28 in free money across 2 separate orders. The catch to the promo is that you have to redeem some amount of your own points to activate it.
