LEGO VIP Insiders/GWP Discussion

Yeah that’s fair. I just don’t like the unpredictability of the GWP availability or market price, especially in this scalper culture. I can barely find Pokemon cards for my kids, I don’t want to be buying this tiny GWP for $200 because everyone bought them up. I’m gonna get the set at some point anyways, might as well be now and cut the middle man out. -

good to know, thanks. Yeah, don’t want that at all. Might just have to roll the dice and pick one of the two options then and hope I get one, as I don’t really want two sets. -

I’m not at all, I only care about getting the GWP for the personal collection. The possibility of it being lost/damaged in transit or arriving without the GWP makes me nervous, as does the possibility of missing it in-person tomorrow. If I end up with two, one will be going to my brother as a birthday gift. Only wondering about the account status aspect, as I only buy new for personal use and don’t want to get flagged or anything. -

Re: Lord of the Rings GWP - is there anything (account status wise) to be concerned about ordering one online and picking one up in store? I just want to make sure I get the GWP. Considering ordering at midnight, but have heard too many horror stories about shipping issues and don’t want to wait for it to arrive. Can’t make it to the store until a little later tomorrow, and don’t want to miss it in-store. Figured I could buy two to be safe. Assuming if I did, anything to be concerned about with my account for purchasing two (if it says limit 1 per household)? If I then get them both and decide to return one Shire set and keep the second GWP (understanding that the price will be deducted), any issues with that? More concerned with my account being flagged than anything else. -
Thanks to everyone for the responses here and via DMs on this venture. Based on the feedback, I think I'm focusing on sets and minifigs for now, with probably a smaller inventory of New parts. With that said, what is my best option for bulk from used part lots I come across? I regularly buy used lots for cheap as they are available, and usually plan to scrape them for minifigs and/or complete sets. I picked up a massive lot this evening, and I have no idea what to do with all of this bulk. Better to try to reassemble sets from the bulk (this lot came with about 50+ instruction books), re-sell in bulk locally, or just drag to Bricks and Minifigs for whatever pennies they'll offer? Sorting and selling bulk is not in my interests.

Thanks for this. Definitely trying to enjoy the kids and family, which is why I'm trying to find a way to make this hobby work full-time....getting tired of spending so many hours a week in corporate America. I definitely do enjoy the sorting process (for new parts, at least), but it's helpful to know that it's likely not going to be the financial answer.

Thanks for confirming! That’s exactly what I would have expected based on previous experience unfortunately. Saved me a trip.
-
I see it in-stock at a few stores around, but I’m assuming there’s a decent chance it’s still ringing up for $50 in store.

Thanks for all of this! I have good organization skills and pretty thorough parts knowledge through MOC building, which is why I'm considering it. I've been reselling just sealed stuff as I come into it, but I've been acquiring used lots and minifigs lately and local/eBay have too many different downsides. Ironically just picked up a Zeb minifig in a lot recently. 😄 I buy a decent amount on Bricklink, I just wasn't sure how much of this inventory is just sitting there and how much is selling. Good to know that it's moving. It definitely seems and feels more convenient than the eBay listing I've been doing.
-
That's a really good thought that I hadn't considered, thanks. I've been reselling part-time for a while just to fund the personal collection, but as I am getting more and more stuff I am wondering if parting it out would yield better results. But yeah, I still have a full-time job and two kids at home so the small orders might be a lot. That's what I'm trying to gauge.

Just looking into Bricklick parts-selling for the first time. Is anyone seeing any sort of consistent activity through Bricklink, IE is it recommended by anyone here? Or too much competition or work to keep up with? Any sort of beginner advice from those more knowledgable and experienced would be much appreciated!

Good to know, I guess I’ll follow suit. Thanks for the feedback/advice as always.

Yeah, makes sense. It was probably 5 sticker sheets max, going back 12+ years, so I just didn't expect it. And only 2-3 missing pieces ever. I go through a lot of LEGO for the personal collection and rarely have missing pieces, Rivendell was the only recent occurrence. I'd also purchase stickers if they made them available....can't believe they aren't. If I knew that I was abusing the system, it wouldn't feel so bad. Just a bummer to have a great experience with customer service, leave all 5-stars for them, and then get the e-mail that my replacement is cancelled.
-
Tried and was told there was no appeal process and no way to get it to that team. Was just curious if there were any keywords I could use or anything to help out if anyone else had been in a similar boat. Ultimately not the biggest deal, just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Does anyone know who to talk to about Bricks and Pieces Replacement Parts bans? I have used this service very sparingly over the past 12+ years, and typically only for mangled stickers, but I was banned a couple years ago and any replacement part I order is instantly cancelled. Purchased orders and parts are unaffected. The problem is that all of LEGO customer service placed offers go through this same system, so they are all cancelled. If I am missing a GWP and contact them for a replacement - instantly cancelled. Today I called to check on a Christmas present parts order and was told it would be later than Christmas, so the customer service rep generously offered a $20 gift card - instantly cancelled. It's becoming quite frustrating and is tainting my view of the brand. I'm not abusing this service at all, I'm not reselling anything, and considering the amount of $$ I spend at LEGO it's insulting that I'm banned for having requested genuinely missing pieces or mangled instructions. I was missing two pieces in a $500 LOTR set and had to personally purchase them secondhand. I called in and talked to people a while back but got nowhere and was told they are unable to do anything about it or connect me with the team that manages that system for an appeal or anything. Has anyone else had any success?

As someone that works in IT, it is honestly impressive how consistently bad they are at this -
Are the Walmart prices live in store? My local store has a ton of The Office set....

a.clay.brick put together a nice tracker: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16muL-6LmJFG4SPnTKWLKOiFDBR2eMiijVyuiAusz_UE/htmlview?gid=1697879914# Nothing more than 20% off in regions that have gone live, and mostly the same sets. -

Awesome, thanks. I'm already cut off from Bricks and Pieces replacements for stickers, so I'm trying to be extra cautious. It's the Zelda Deku Tree set.....RIP my wallet. It's all the kids want. The MyNintendo online store in UK and France have each put it on sale for 30% off for Black Friday, but nothing in the US yet. Hoping I don't regret it this weekend. -

Looking to pick up 3 copies of the same large set this Insiders Weekend for personal Christmas gifts, and have a couple of questions if anyone can help: This set is Limit 2 online. If I buy 2 online and then another 1 in-store, am I at risk for having my account flagged? If I place two separate orders tonight for the 2 in order to maximize GWP, am I at risk for having my account flagged? Is there any other better way to do this? Thanks for any help! -
Quick question. I usually go to the LEGO store for big Day 1 releases, but the amount of sets releasing tomorrow and the possibility of long lines has me debating going online instead. How long does it typically take LEGO to ship and deliver a set like Barad Dur on release day (assuming it’s ordered In Stock and not Backordered)? Anyone ever have issues with the GWP for In Stock orders?
