  1. Thanks. I've heard other complaints about FedEx as well but you might be right. I should talk to LEGO Shop at Home and see what they say. Any free points would be a favor I think but it would be nice if boxes arrived problem free!
  2. My Lego orders from LEGO Shop at Home Canada are delivered by FedEx and more often than not the shipping boxes are banged up on a corner or squished at one end, etc. Anyone else have this problem? It's so bad you almost have to just laugh about it! I don't have problems with any other shippers that I use from other stores, so not sure how to change it. It would be really nice if other shipping options/other shippers were available on LEGO Shop at Home. I'm reluctant to report or complain to Lego because I don't want to get anybody in trouble, but how else can it be changed?!
  3. As part of trying to assess risks in 'investing' in LEGO, one of my questions is about LEGO quality. Sorry for generalizing, but often the trend for retail products, including toys, is for quality to decrease over time. This is done for various reasons including monetary to maintain or improve sales. My understanding is that LEGO has changed over the years, and I wonder if these changes have made it less good from an investment standpoint. I've read in member forums on sites like brickset.com about quality concerns. Apparently LEGO bricks may be thinner now or made of a less solid material then they used to be. Apparently this may lend to improved 'clutch power', which is a positive, but which may make them less resistant to stress and more prone to cracking. Also, the same materials may not be used or available at all manufacturing countries which may affect quality consistency. Also, I've heard pieces can turn yellow over time, which may be particularly obvious in white and light colors. This (yellowing) seems to be linked to UV light exposure, but I'm not sure if color change may happen in a sealed box too, how I keep most of mine. I'm not sure if this has changed over the years. So for the most experienced among us, have you noticed a change in LEGO quality, and 'investability', over the years. Do you feel a sealed set, stored at moderate temperature and humidity, will be as good 10 years from today as it was 10 years ago? Is there a difference in investment risk between the various countries of manufacture, or between different colors, or between different themes, etc.? Any thoughts? legoFan
  4. Some good frank discussion. I personally think the 'storage issue' is a positive, as the interviewer pointed out.
  5. Yes me as well. I don't have a LEGO store near me. So I buy most of my larger and exclusive sets from LEGO shop @ home (online). It seems quite a few of them arrive in a damaged shipping box, which results in the LEGO set being damaged. It's very frustrating! I've made it known to LEGO and have returned some sets. But the problem persists. It seems they can't do anything about it. I just cross my fingers and hope it doesn't arrive damaged.
  6. I'm not sure if this has been discussed here before. But I've noticed some LEGO sets have a "light brick". As far as I can tell, these are bricks with a light and a battery in them. Sets with a light brick include "The Orc Forge" (9476), "Whitecap Bay" (4194), and it appears the new "Winter Village Cottage" (10229), among others. I don't have any light brick sets so I'm not familiar with them. My question is, does a light brick in a set effect the investment value at all? Is it a good feature short and long term? Is it possible for the battery to corrode/leak and damage the set, especially if stored for the longer term? Any comments? Similarly, I wonder if Power Function batteries (e.***. in Technic sets) can have a problem with corroding/leaking if stored for a long time.
  7. I think a large architecture (UCS-type) church/cathedral would be awesome! Like 3000-5000 pcs. I'd be happy to buy that. History, art, character, wow!
  8. Hi your site is really cool. I love LEGO stuff and talking about LEGO. It'd be nice, in the top right corner, if the 8 "share with friends" icons did not cover the list of search hits. Perhaps the list of search hits could be brought forward, so it appears over the 8 "share with friends" icons. Also, it'd be nice to be able to give points to other users who post great tips. Great!!
