The big sets are impressive, especially the Nautilus but they will never make it into production, the other sets look really lame to me. It looks like the Concorde was made from fake Lego in 20 minutes flat and the National Park set is just terrible. If it wasn't for the rolling BB-8 model I think ideas 2016 would have been a write off so far.

Possibly a good excuse to re-make the ISD in 10030 UCS style, I'd love to see that over another playset version.

I was banned around April/May this year, the usual email response from Lego customer services informing me of their policy regarding resellers etc... Personally I believe it's a bit of a crap shoot as to whether you get the attention of the hammer holder or not, I never ordered more than 5 items at once, never more than 2 orders a week and never made duplicate or sequential orders. My collecting habit is very much a small time operation and in total last year I spent around £1800 through LEGO Shop at Home. I feel better now that I've moaned about it though. I appreciate that the work arounds can make the problem worse, but what other reaction to this overkill on policy reinforcement is there? Stu

Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit - general discussion
Stud-u-like replied to face's topic in Lord of the Rings / The Hobbit
The Harry Potter theme had such high demand (by end users) that the sealed sets became rare and valuable in just a few months, I don't believe the L.O.T.R. Sets have anything like the appeal to the end user and this is reflected in their relative performance. I don't think it's going to be a dud by any means but I think the balance of supply and demand will not be in the investors favour for a long time yet. Personally I'm clearing out a load of my L.O.T.R. Inventory which I bought at discount, my current prices are barely above retail but I feel the capital would be better off sunk into Super Heroes and Star Wars at this present time. It's a good game. Stu. -
I'm a huge fan of this set, my gut feeling is that this will be the last of the pneumatic technic Lego's as the power function actuators are so much easier to produce and apply to models. If this holds true then the next 24 months could be extremely profitable for the Unimog. Stu.

Which big Star Wars exclusive should I focus on now?
Stud-u-like replied to lobo1969's topic in Star Wars Sets
Not UCS but 7965 Millenium Falcon has moved status to 'Call to check product availability' at the U.K. LEGO Shop at Home, it's almost certainly on it's way out and with no other decent size falcon available (yet) if it goes E.O.L. in the U.S. too it could be a real winner in the short term. This is a great set that is still available for a decent discount if you shop around. I'm taking a significant punt that by Christmas 2014 it'll only be available on Ebay via resellers with a 50-100% markup. Otherwise.... R2 all the way... Stu. -
Every time I order from Argos all I receive is a smashed up box in a polythene bag. I placed an order for 10 6865 Avenging cycles last year, 4 days later 10 individual bags turned up, all the sets were squashed with some re-sealed and some even missing Captain America figures. Thanks for the heads up but I've been put off their 'late finds' forever. IMO this stock is from the returns bin at one of their main distribution centres, hence the online only tag. I'd be much happier if I could reserve for store pickup. Stu.

I find it really annoying, especially if you have a certain unique style of photography or presentation. It's happened to me a few times (that I've noticed) and I've reported it every time. Credit due to EBay as the listings are altered/removed very quickly. I've no time for people who can't even be bothered to take a photo or write a sentence when they're trying to sell something. Stu.

Fire Brigade finally showing as 'SOLD OUT' in U.K. LEGO Shop at Home. I think this set is finally done but everybody has them stashed so I can't see a decent return for years if then. Helms Deep should be a winner, maybe not so much as the Harry Potter castles but I predict this set to be gone by January and gains of 50%+ in year 1. (Barely educated guess of course). In the UK Technic stuff is really popular and people pay top dollar for rare sets, I've just stocked up with a few recently e.o.l'd sets like the Quad Bike, Tractor and Helicopter. Lots of Friends sets have just ended here too and I think there will be a strong market for them within a year (Stables, City Cafe, Tree House etc..) I noticed the latest Battle of Hoth set (75014) has sold out already, that's a really short run for a new set and even though it's a pretty poor Star Wars set we all know what returns on short production sets can bring, like The Zombies and The Burrow in the last 2 years. Last one worth a mention is the Constitution Train Chase (79111) The Lone Ranger theme will surely be a complete flop but a Lego Train with only a 6 month production run now E.O.L.? I'm in for a few as they are still discounted quite heavily over here. Not sure how useful this info is for the American market but most sets follow suite within a few months historically. Stu

Lego S@H Christmas Freebie 'Cancelled'?
Stud-u-like replied to Stud-u-like's topic in LEGO Shop @ Home
Forgot to update on this... sure enough the box had no freebie but curiously all the subsequent LEGO Shop at Home orders placed in my name (as opposed to the girlfriends) came with the Christmas set, every one. So I really don't have much to complain about as I'm now sitting on over a dozen sets. Interesting that TLG appears to randomly enforce purchase restrictions with online accounts. -

No real choice. On a similar note, what is/was the deal with the 'lego employee' polybag. Was this U.S. only like the Clone? -
I'm not sure about the Monster fighter theme at all, I mean I like the sets, especially the Haunted House, but I think TLG missed a good opportunity to tie in a license here. If the whole range had a solid collectible licensed theme like 'Addams Family' or something like that, or even if they'd tied it in with a big studio then I think Lego would have spanked it. Instead we've got some good sets which will probably be gone in the next 2-3 months but all these sets stand a good chance to be re-produced and improved upon with some other generic monsters theme by 2015, much like Dino and all the previous Dinosaur sets. The Haunted House will be the best of the bunch no doubt but in 2 years time would I rather be sitting on UCS R2's, Unimogs and Orthancs? Definitely.

Lego S@H Christmas Freebie 'Cancelled'?
Stud-u-like replied to Stud-u-like's topic in LEGO Shop @ Home
Exactly why I started this post, Double VIP and freebies definitely persuade me to buy sets I wouldn't normally buy, that's just basic retailing at work. I had planned on an x wing too given that the Christmas set is good for -

I have 2 VIP accounts in the household, myself and my girlfriend, this order was in fact my girlfriends but maybe on looking at the shipping address for the town hall I ordered the day before TLG twigged and have withheld the 2nd Freebie set. If this is the case then I guess that's fair enough, I just didn't appreciate how thorough the LEGO Shop at Home disciplines have become. The mini camper arrived with each order and last years Christmas set did too, oh well, at least this way TLG have helped make the set more exclusive. Maybe they do love lego investors after all? -
Lego S@H Christmas Freebie 'Cancelled'?
Stud-u-like replied to Stud-u-like's topic in LEGO Shop @ Home
I think it's rude that they just cancel a customer offer with no reason or recompense, and with all due, I also think my decision to purchase lego sets at a time when I can take advantage of the best offers also makes good financial sense so I'm not really sure a great deal of 'rethinking' is necessary. -
I placed an order for a camper van on October 18th and just noticed the Christmas giveaway set has been cancelled off the order. How rude. I hope they haven't run out already. Has this happened to anybody else? Order Summary Item Name Ship Date Status Qty. Price Order Total 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van 18 Oct 2013 1

Totally agree, I haven't paid a penny for the help and enjoyment I've extracted from this site and without wanting to sound like a general suckup I'd like to say "Jolly well done to all involved" Cash is waiting of course, just let me know where to send the cheque....... -
9470 Shelob Attacks E.O.L. soon?
Stud-u-like replied to Stud-u-like's topic in LEGO Set Retirement / End of Life (EOL)
With all it's success I think it's safe to say there are no 'dud' Harry Potter sets, with that in mind I think it will be fairly safe to say the same for the L.O.T.R. sets 1 or 2 years down the line. Apart from the Orthanc Tower and Orc Forge I have to confess I'm not really keen on any of the L.O.T.R. sets, but then I thought that last year about The Burrow and Knight Bus and look where they are now. Lord of the Rings will either be a massive boom or hopeless bust in my opinion, and I can't decide which way as it's so early into wave 1 retirement, I myself am all in for any discount sets I can get my hands on in the hope that serious collectors will want the whole series by the end of the license. Which way do you guys think it will go? -
Obi WANs star fighter? Epic fail so far.

Shop at Home Store Calendar and offers - September 2013
Stud-u-like replied to TheDarkness's topic in LEGO Shop @ Home
Not sure if pairing this polybag up with 10220 will give you that much more then just selling the individual sets, it's a cute bundle no doubt but I think this mini camper will do really well in the next 12 months anyway. It's the best poly I've come across so far, it screams to be opened and built so new/sealed sets will only get rarer and (depending on how long TLG continue with the VW license) there's a good chance it won't get re-released. I think both campers will double within 6 months of E.O.L, but with the mini the E.O.L will be in 5 days time if not already. -
Just noticed Lego LEGO Shop at Home (UK) has 9470 marked with the "Call to check product availability" Tag. No real surprise to any of us that this normally amounts to the end of production for that set, does this indicate the 1st wave of L.O.T.R. sets may all follow suite and be gone by Christmas? Is it the same story in U.S.? Stu.

2 years down the line I'm sure there will be hobbit sets we'd all wished we had more of, just like the castles and burrow with Harry potter, just like the ships with P.O.T.C. The question is which sets and when to buy? I personally think there are quite a few turkeys in both Hobbit and Lord of the Rings themes but long term the Unexpected Gathering looks like a winner to me, should be with us well into next year though even with the second wave approaching.
