Are there any examples of a set in the neighborhood of this price range that didn't do well after EOL? I like this one a lot, as long as its huge box is in good shape.

Agree, and ships do at least OK in the end... All the brown is pretty dull, though. Black Pearl had similar doubts maybe based on so much black but it displays much better on a shelf than this one i think (wish BP had tattered sails or at least a subtle print, though).
