  1. Because most people do not have an unlimited budget, there is nothing wrong with buying when ever you see a good deal, and if you have the additional money, who cares right? Any profit down the track is better than no profit at all. There is nothing wrong with this type of strategy if your willing to wait a while before seeing any profit. But obviously the idea is to make as much as possible in the shortest possible timeframe, to maximize your investments. So with a little bit of research and not much effort most people do just this by looking into near EOL sets. Why wait 4 years when you can wait 2? Edit: having said this, being in Australia, we don't really have the same type of luxury as our US counterparts by waiting right up to EOL to buy sets. It will be likely that there will be no suppliers left by that time. A good idea is to wait to the final estimated production year of a certain set and buy as much as you can afford in that year. As sets are constantly being retired, there will always be near EOL sets to purchase.
  2. So is the general consensus that this set will be around for 3 years and will eventually hit retail shelves? Trying my best to not buy any but it sure is tempting !!!!
  3. Hey guys, I thought i would share my investment tracker spreadsheet, which i think is pretty nifty if i don't say so myself https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-FkThHORDEicDBRMWkyNU54Vmc/edit?usp=sharing Basically, I love the Brickfolio, but it was just bothering me that some of the new sets were showing up as -100%, as I couldn't view the data accurately, I decided to make my own tracker in excel using the exported CSV file from Brickfolio. The formulas are all set up, so if you change the the numbers in the quantity, purchase price, or MSRRP columns, everything else including all the percentages cascades down accordingly. Every fortnight, I scour eBay and update the average market prices per set, this provides me with really accurate indication on the growth % of my inventory. The second sheet added is just full inventory list, which i'll update once i start selling (i haven't done so yet). I hope this helps others too here. Thanks!!
  4. Thanks guys, how much do you think I should offer? I'm in Australia, but don't worry about country price differences for now, I'll take whatever you guys say and add 20% to account for Aussie Lego tax LOL!
  5. Hello everyone, There will be a garage sale tomorrow and the advertisement lists there there will be "lots of Lego". I emailed the advertiser asking for pics and below is what he sent me. He says he found 2 instruction manuals for a 'Technic' car and 1 for a plane (I am presuming a "City" plane). There may be others but he can't be sure. I am quite new to Lego, so I can't really tell the type of sets in the lot by just looking at the pieces. Would you guys be able to identify anything good just from these pics? We haven't discussed cost yet. Thank you! Bruce
  6. You guys in the states are so lucky, Amazon was our only hope to get the SSD at decent prices. Now, the only way for us to get it is either pay the ridiculous MSRP price of AU$699.99, or find a deal on eBay (very rare). No retailer in AU has any stock left, and even if they did, it's AU MSRP Luckily, I bought 2 about a month ago, I was waiting for my no conversion fee credit card to come in before I bought another ($20 saving right there), a few days too late. I really hope Amazon restocks this.
  7. No SSD's on Amazon either? $399 price is gone, cheapest now is $449.99. Sign?
  8. Thanks for the replies! I realised my list was probably unnecessarily to long, but I can't seem to find the edit function to edit my post. Yep, I am in Australia and I agree, I think I need to settle down a little. One of the Death Star's I bought from eBay turned out to be a failed purchase (seller will refund the Cash), I plan to transfer the funds to another SSD, so that will make 2x Death Stars and 3x SSD's. I am eye balling the modulars for my next purchase, the GE's are pretty impossible to find here in AU, unless you're willing to pay a inflated price. I think I missed the boat already.
  9. Hi Everyone, First time poster and a very new investor here. For a while now, I've been considering some sort of side business, or investment and not long ago, I made the decision to invest into Lego. I made this decision for a few reasons, but the main one was that collecting is my passion and I wanted this side business to have something to do with my lifestyle so that I could never get bored of it, and would always be excited invest my time and money into it. I'm a huge fan of collecting and I love all things geeky and Sci-Fi, so Lego was the perfect idea for me. Anyway, I made this thread for two reasons, firstly to introduce myself, which I've now done, and secondly, to seek opinions and feedback on my investments so far. Since making this decision to invest into Lego (which was only about 3 weeks ago from today), I've already invested just over AU$3.5k into it. I cleared up to AU$10k of capital with the wife for Lego investment, which I intend to spread over the rest of the year. The list below is all my purchases to date, now before you look, please know that I live in Australia and Lego here is horridly more expensive here compared to the US. The prices I paid below were the cheapest I were able to source at this time. Here's my list of investments so far, all purchases listed in AUD. LOTR Battle at the Black Gate 79007 $58.00 Star Wars Death Star 10188 $520.00 Star Wars Death Star 10188 $540.18 Star Wars Death Star 10188 $540.18 Star Wars R2D2 UCS 10225 $240.38 Star Wars R2D2 UCS 10225 $240.00 Star Wars R2D2 UCS 10225 $240.38 Star Wars Super Star Destroyer 10221 $532.04 Star Wars Super Star Destroyer 10221 $532.04 Super Heroes Batman The Riddler Chase 76012 $39.99 Super Heroes Batman The Riddler Chase 76012 $39.99 Super Heroes Batman The Riddler Chase 76012 $39.99 Super Heroes Captain America vs Hydra 76017 $31.99 Super Heroes Captain America vs Hydra 76017 $31.99 Super Heroes Hulk Smash Lab 76018 $55.99 Super Heroes The Bat vs Bane Tumbler Chase 76001 $55.99 Super Heroes The Bat vs Bane Tumbler Chase 76001 $55.99 Super Heroes The Bat vs Bane Tumbler Chase 76001 $49.00 Super Heroes The Bat vs Bane Tumbler Chase 76001 $49.00 Monster Fighters Vampyre Castle 9468 $109.00 Monster Fighters Vampyre Castle 9468 $109.00 Your feedback is most welcomed, I suppose what I'm after is what you guys think of my investment decisions, namely, the sets I bought and the prices I paid for them. Do you think these sets would net me a good return? Would you have made different choices, and if so, then why? Opinions/criticisms most welcomed Thank you for reading!
