  1. "The CPI inflation calculator uses the average Consumer Price Index for a given calendar year. This data represents changes in prices of all goods and services purchased for consumption by urban households." - BLS.gov The numbers I gave weren't just based on inflation. They were based on the real increase or decrease in prices of goods. The increase in prices are already factored into the CPI. I realize housing prices outpace the CPI, but many other things have decreased in price in real terms even though they have increased in nominal terms. Also, houses have roughly doubled in size on average since the 1940s, and there is a much larger emphasis placed on luxury items in homes now.
  2. I think you missed my point. I know things cost more now, but $4.16 today is exactly equivalent to $0.25 back in 1938, at least according to the CPI. According the BLS, $4.16 will buy you the same amount of stuff as $0.25 did in 1938. http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl
  3. The minimum wage was implemented in 1938 at $0.25 per hour. In 2015 dollars, that $0.25 has the purchasing power of $4.16. If the equivalent of $4.16 was considered a living wage at one point, then how is $7.25 not considered a livable wage today?
  4. Sold my last 19 Chima Fire Bikes for $55.
  5. I've had two very different experiences with Amazon UK. The first set was almost pristine. The second set was pretty damaged. The bags inside all fell out when I picked it up because the seals had come completely off. I probably would order from Amazon UK again though with some of the sales that they have.
  6. I sold my last Creative Tower for $75 on Craigslist.
  7. They will ship it separately.
  8. just about the same story. I ended up selling it for a decent profit and I put that money straight into my brickfolio.
  9. This was my ride a few months ago, but unfortunately it is gone now.
  10. I recently bought an item off eBay that arrived today shipped by Sears. I checked and it was $8 more expensive on Sears than what I paid for it. However, under the billing address it is my own address. I paid through PayPal so the seller shouldn't have access to my credit card. Also, on the packing slip there is no price next to subtotal or total amount. Next to subtotal it has "ES. CC" printed, and next to Total amount it states "GI. AP". I'm not sure, but I think the rest of the seller's items are being drop shipped from Sears since he is selling Craftsman tools and small kitchen appliances. The seller has almost all positive feedback and has been a member since 2001. I just wanted to see if anybody here can shed any light on my situation.
  11. I too started back in 2011, and I still haven't sold much besides a couple B-Wings. Quick flipping works fine if you do it properly, but there may be a bunch of sets where you do only make $10 per sale. Some people live in a good area to sell for cash, which could possibly be an option for you. Otherwise you may just have to wait for the incredible sales that occasionally happen.
  12. I'm not sure of your usual selling platform, so my response may not mean much, but if you are selling on eBay you would be responsible for a missing bag. If your set was advertised as BNIB then the buyer would have a legitimate not as described case.
  13. I didn't get any this time, but previously switching browsers has sometimes worked for me. I was able to add to cart in chrome, but not in IE.
  14. I had a Sopwith Camel that was double sealed that I ordered direct from LEGO. The weight was the exact same as my others, so I decided to keep it.
  15. There was a local ad for a tub of "Mega Bloks brand Legos." I guess people don't understand what a brand is.
  16. Not that it really matters, but if you were at the LEGO store in St. Louis they lied to you about the GE. I picked a couple up there back in June or July; can't remember exactly when.
  17. If it is just for games, facebook, and internet browsing the iPad 2 should be plenty. I have the first generation and it still does all of those things just fine.
  18. The increase in price for the Parisian restaurant was most likely to keep up with inflation. In the U.S. the CPI has risen about 10% since 2009, so $160 seems to be pretty fair. Hopefully they don't increase in price every year, but in order for the quality to be maintained, there will have to be periodic price increases.
  19. I called to see if there were any left, and the customer rep said that there was one left. Although she later said that there might be a couple of them.
  20. The spaceman is still showing up for me.
  21. I actually bought the same card but didn't realize the description said in store only. Hopefully it is just Staples' website acting up today.
  22. The gift card from the ebay sale states that it is for in-store use only.
  23. I'm sure it will go back up at some point. I just wish we knew for sure what kind of inventory LEGO was dealing with.
  24. I should have been clearer. I would either sell right away, or be prepared to wait an extra year or so. It easily could regain any lost ground price-wise. Personally, if I could get $35-40 for each polybag, I would sell. This mini set isn't really being advertised by LEGO so it's hard to know how many new customers are seeing it. Somebody would already have to be interested in the full size one enough to add it to their cart in order to see this promo.
  25. I would probably sell as soon as possible in order to avoid the inevitable price decline. I have no idea how much the price will fall, but it will surely be affected some.
