  4. Don't forget one of the OG "agenda" sets, Women of Nasa, just looked that up and I'm not sure you could call that an investment winner. I think these sets sell as well as a 4th of July set would sell elsewhere in the world. It took long enough, I don't think they just popped after EOL.

  5. I remember getting a hate pm's from a member when I made one post that wasn't a deal in this thread lol. Apparently, times have changed.

  6. That what I thought for the spring lantern festival. I'm sure there are people who put it into their city but most probably don't even know it exists.

  7. The Lego sets are culturally specific. I’m guessing that may have something to do with it. I don’t think it’s racism but apathy.

  8. Isn’t this one of “Jim’s” top 10 super secret patreon picks? What gets me is how easily they will take the L. Set hasn’t even been out 10 months and so readily dumping inventory.

  9. Those sets sell great in China. I think it's smart that MK is online only in the US. They just take up valuable shelf space in US BAM stores. There were similar arguments on here about Sydney Opera House, Taj Mahal, Tower Bridge, European soccer stadiums and so forth. Unless you're an expat from that country or in that country, who in the US actually wants to buy and display that set? I remember when the complaint was that some sets were only available in their region, making them expensive on the secondary markets. 80101 and 80102 appreciated quickly, but when 80103 became available everywhere, its value stagnated and eventually it sold at a discount. I mean, I think the lessons learned for us brickpickers is 1) low or no ROI. Better off investing elsewhere, and 2) wait for the (likely) discount if you want them for yourself. Probably like several of you, I thought the guaranteed short shelf life would make them appreciate in value quickly, faster than a Winter Village set, but I'm still sitting on year of the lion, rat, ox and now rabbit sets. I may have to seriously consider the suggestion above to remove them from my inventory and part them out into my bricklink store.

  10. There is a huge difference between the Chinese government and the Chinese people. Using your logic, I shouldn't invest in Babe Ruth memorabilia since I hate those damn Yankees. I think that the Chinese government is terrible and am really leary of the threat they are towards this country. That being said, when I buy batteries for my solar array, I buy Chinese ones since they are the only ones making a decent one in the entire world. And I will continue to do so until another country learns to make a battery near as good somewhere in the vicinity of the same price. Again, using your logic, I wouldn't be able to get some of the heart medications that I take because China is the only ones making the pills. I find that deplorable. But do I let my heart kill me or support China by buying their meds? Fear China but don't blame them. Blame the US and other countries that moved their labs to China to take advantage of cheap labor. **I apologize to the mods and readers. I just realized that this is taking place in the USA sales thread. I thought we were in another. Feel free to delete my posts.

  11. BS. Politics hasn't stopped consumers from buying objects made by or depicting Chinese people. Prove me wrong and I'll admit it.

  12. Monkie Kid also has spectacular sets. Yet there is little demand. The theme / IP is the main driver of demand, not the specific set. A bad Harry Potter set will outsell the best MK / CNY sets by 1000x.

  13. Aside from the Lunar vs. Chinese NY controversy, I don't get it. The set looks great, is a nice family building experience, and at $80 cheap by Lego standards.

  14. Barnes and Noble has 35 sets for 25% off including the Jim Lee Batman art set. They also have BTS for 50% off. There are some great MOCs from the Batman set including Boba Fett.
