These prices this early in the “Holiday” shopping season tell me things are not well in the retail world.6 points

I held back all of my storm trooper helmets last year and WOW... pushing 190. Feels like I'm back in 2010. Rarely is it the correct choice (mathematically) to hold a set that was already doing well. In this case it definitely was the right choice. There are definitely still winners out there, but its getting harder. For all the newbies out there. We are definitely in a different economic situation. There is still money to be made but you have to be smart with your choices. Be patient and mindful about the deals you are spending on and don't over extend yourself as we will not see similar returns as previous years. You don't want to put yourself in a fire sale position to cover your bills. Some things may be worth holding a few extra years, others may be worth dumping at cost to find better opportunities (things that perform better in a slow economy). There are a lot of "non retiring" large sets being sold off aggressively right now. If I had to guess they ARE NOT secret retirements. Most of this data is leaked and pretty well known at this point. I'd guess the stores have massive quantities of them and have more holiday shipments coming and clearing space. Some of my banned accounts are reactivated now (strange) and quantity limits are non existent. Stuffs about to get very cheap. Choose your path forward wisely. Hope everyone has a Happy Holidays.2 points

Some folks forget that the service we provide is actually just storage until the customers realize they want it.2 points

I'm reading it as a capped limit on your screenshot. But none of these offers ever seem to be 100% of what they appear to be. I spread my purchases over multiple CB sources.2 points

Bingo! I often get criticize for preaching to people to ignore the retirement dates. If you find a great deal the first 3 months of a set's life, buy it. This often puts me at odds with those that say that you need to constantly turn over your stock. To me, that's the same as saying "I can't afford to tie up my money for more than two years." There are very few actual LEGO investors. Most people that claim that they invest are really just speculators.1 point

Hopefully they ship them protected with plastic film so that they don't arrive all scratched up. I am hearing $525 and 31 Minifigs.1 point

Isn’t that cute…he was just looking out for little Timmy. You don’t have to defend yourself on that front. If the store wants to sell and you want to buy, who gives a **** what anyone else thinks. I never gave it a second thought when I used to walk out of Walmart or Target with 4 cart loads of clearance.1 point

I can't find it. It's either buried too deep in all his other videos or he has deleted it but he did a highly critical video of fellow LEGO Youtubers doing "arm sweep" videos, where they go into a store and buy every clearance LEGO set available. He contended that you "had to leave some for the children." He ignores the fact that the very reason that the sets were on sale was because they had been sitting on the shelf, unsold, for a long while. He was particularly hard on Bricks On The Dollar, using footage from his videos, doing arm sweeps, and using the footage to condemn him for buying out the shelf and not leaving any "for the children." Meanwhile, he had many videos, both before and since, showing him buying out a store of certain set(s), but always with an excuse for doing so. First of all, this whole "for the children" concept is BS. As an adult, if I am not using unfair practices to get early access, any thing that I see on a shelf should be fair game. Kids have their whole life ahead of them to buy things that they want. As a senior citizen, I'm a hell of a lot closer to the end than the beginning. Why is their happiness more important than mine? Secondly, if it has been sitting there during a buying season and is now reduced, mothers have had their chance to buy the set for little Johnny. But, putting all of that aside, I can respect you if you disagree and have different beliefs. But what I can't respect is when you are a hypercritical SOB that whines about something while doing the exact same thing yourself. If this sound preachy then sue me. You asked.1 point

If you have money, this is a great time to be a builder. If you have time (3+ years), and a good eye, you can pick some winners that won't be obliterated by remakes or usurped by the sheer speed Lego is putting out new stuff. If you need continuous turnover, or rely on that 2 year hold time, you're going to get wrecked like 2016. The dildo of rampant global inflation rarely arrives lubed. Expect further, and deeper sales, on sets that will barely crack RRP on the aftermarket.0 points
