Congrats on your first home purchase! It's a great feeling. On a related note, I made a career change after 20+ years in the financial industry to go into real estate. I passed my license exam a month ago and shadowed my first open house yesterday. It's scary making a career change in my late forties, but I was never really happy in corporate finance. Trying to find something that I'll be happy doing for the remainder of my work life.

Yesterday, after two years of house hunting on and off, nine offers made, at least 15+ houses seen, my family and I finally were the winning buyers for a new townhouse. Our first home and now the easy part's over. The fun part is figuring out how to pay for it! But man, what a crazy market!

Well I actually got into my first argument ever with my wife over a Lego purchase...or to be exact wanting to make a Lego purchase. I know a person selling their modular collection for $1800. They have all of them from Green Grocer to the Police Station. I was all over it until the wife put the breaks on it. Says I dont need anymore used sets that will just sit around taking up space. Said she has no problem with me buying sealed sets but draws the line at used. Breaks my heart to have to pass up on this deal.

Why have small sets that include MerCat, Pandy, and Cakey, but then also include these exact same characters in the house when there are so many other cats to choose from? People without young children, please just move along and ignore that I typed those words. This Kitty Fairy set is obnoxious--$35 for that?

In my experience, the amount of the discount is directly related to how much work you put into getting it. Like bonusbrick said 30%-40% off is very possible on many sets but you need to spend a lot of time searching, checking, stacking deals, ect. and be ready to buy very quickly to get sets at that discount. On top of that, getting a mass produced $50 set for $35 is much easier than getting an exclusive $850 UCS AT-AT for $600. Deals over 20% on large sets ($200+) have historically been hard to come by. They happen but they're rare and don't often last. Black Panther and Table Football are the exception, not the rule. So I'd say if you are looking for a Star Wars set around $200-$300 then double VIP along with all the promos is going to end up being a pretty good deal (assuming you sell the promos or otherwise consider their value). Now if you're talking very high dollar sets sets like the Falcon and AT-AT, double VIP + promos is still going to be an OK deal if you don't want to wait, but you can probably do better holding out for closer to 20% off. Just keep in mind that there's no guarantee a particular exclusive will ever be 20%+ off and as a set moves toward retirement you may look up one day and realize it's sold out everywhere and now you can't even get it at MSRP. I couldn't believe how much the wings droop on the display set. You don't really see it until you look straight down the body. I like the lines of the body but those wings are a show-stopper for me right now. I hope they come up with something useful and not ugly.

I kinda dig the little ghostie guys, but wtf is up with this guy's face? is that a CPAP strap or something? Ok, this is Jayden and I guess that's orthodontic headgear? Looks terrible on the actual product. I appreciate the inclusivity, but the execution is poor, ends up looking like weird whiskers. Don't worry, they've got that covered as well! At LEAST there is a TV show to tie-in, IMO, that's what killed Hidden Side and Vidiyo hardest.

Hi, everyone! I haven't played with LEGO since I was a kid. I'm now in my 40s and, on a lark, decided to order a small Star Wars ship set and was hooked. To say I know practically nothing about LEGO would be an understatement, but I at least knew enough that I don't want to pay full price for sets if I don't have to. A quick internet search brought me to here, and you all have already saved me some money! Hopefully one day I'll be able to return the favor. I know a number of you do this as a business, so I hope you don't mind those of us, like me, who are just dipping our toes in for our own hobbies and interests.

Nice breakdown! I only did 1 order to get the coin and the DS2. Grabbed the new BHZ 5 pack x 2, a battle pack and used the Dark Trooper $15 discount code which kept me from getting the Poster. The Cantina is a great build, awesome minifigs, I just have trouble displaying it with max visual appeal. I know you will really enjoy this set for your personal collection.

I don't do Technic so looked at the reviews on this set and it is one of the worst rated sets over $150 only beaten out by the Black Panther Bust and by far the #1 worst reviewed set the UCS Hulkbuster.

Anyone waking up with a hangover/regrats after yesterday lol. I'm feeling pretty good. Didn't meet all my expectations. Here's my take: Deathstar GWP: I'm liking this thing more by the minute Coin GWP: wasn't excited at first, but I can't forget the success of the last coins Polybag: not much to make here, but it's a fantastic bag CB: I don't know why, but my trick to get the 18% back fell thru. It consistently worked for months, but they still offered 9%, so I'll take it 2x points: I bought the Cantina so I'm back in the game with 5200 points The Cantina: bummed that I saw Amazon lower the price on the same day, but still got it for under $250 with all the reimbursements VIP Poster: bummed this didn't sell out on the first day, but once things ship from the warehouse, and folks get their points, this thing might just sell out in the next few days I'm happy. GWPs were solid, cashback and points were decent, and I get the Cantina back in my stable.

Yes, David who is actually paid by lego mentions it in his review. That he contacted lego and a fix is being worked on. I am holding off on picking this set up for personal until I hear what Jang has to say.

This set sounds like a dud. I can find multiple local sellers on Facebook Marketplace and Offerup selling it between $120 and $160.

Below are 5 frames of thought I use when looking at discounts. They are in no particular order. 1. If you are just buying single sets for personal builds, you should generally consider 20% the standard minimum discount to look for. Unless there is a great stack of GWPs to offset the price, I rarely find the need to pay full price. (Brickheadz and similar exclusives would be the exception) 2. I'll look at how many locations are selling the item when considering how high of discount I'm waiting for. If the set is only available at lego.com, finding it for 10% off might be a good deal. Some sets have been exclusive to one big box store along with lego.com like 75351 Princess Leia's Helmet so 20% might be a good deal. But if its available at all major retailers, I'm looking for at least 40% off. 3. I'll consider the age of the item. If it's near retirement the FOMO may kick in and I'll accept less of a discount in order to secure the set. 4. Does the set have exclusive minifigs, pieces, or printed bricks? These will generally increase the resale value and I'll accept less of a discount. 5. And finally, don't forget about 3rd party discounts. Rewards sites like Honey or Rakuten. Cash back from credit cards. These can stack to turn meager discounts into worthwhile ones. I'm sure there are many other great opinions from members that do this on a larger scale.
