Guess relieved is the word . This “should” be an easy fix since I have authorization for the brand in question. Offloading my inventory would have been a nightmare. Having said that , I just deleted all my listings for any set that is still in production even if my inventory was zeroed out6 points

Their solution is to hire VORYS and send letters to resellers about how we can't ensure quality control...4 points

LEGO's acquisition AMA of BL confirmed they had no intention to ban or restrict reseller stores less than two years ago and the amount of ill will a move like that would create among the AFOL community would be a PR and financial disaster. I've copied the specific Q&A below. Vorys likely has no clue what BL is or how it functions as a marketplace, otherwise, they would have chosen their language much more carefully.4 points

Very true, but still, the Bricklink thing makes me wonder. If the brand, in this case Lego, owns and operates a marketplace run exclusively by 3P sellers to sell their products in new and used conditions, doesn't that by definition mean that they have given 3p sellers authorization to sell their product on the internet and make the majority of their argument moot? Anyone with a bank account can open such a store on Lego's marketplace and Lego charges and collects fees for this reselling, would this not qualify as an authorized reseller of their product? Also, how can they possibly enforce QC standards when they allow the sale of new and used versions of their products on said marketplace?4 points

I think this has more to do with stuff that happened last year during the pandemic. I sat in on a webinar over the summer that included someone that does brand protection work for LEGO (internal employee). It was clear from what she said that the explosion in online sellers and particularly the rise of false storefronts was of great concern to them. My sense is that this has a lot more to do with LEGO wanting to ensure that the products that reach the hands of end users are products that have flowed through an official distribution channel that they have control over than any of the ancillary effects of reseller scum doing what they do. I have no idea what's going on with Bricklink, but if this is part of a larger effort to get control over who is selling branded products, I think we'll see them taking some action around Bricklink sooner or later.3 points

It may be prudent to sign up and open a store just to have it on record that you have registered and are in compliance with Lego's own online marketplace. Here's a link to BL's seller terms of service.3 points

I too am quite fond of the hamster in a wrecking ball. Such a cool set and it's pretty sturdy when you press in the legs and roll it around on the ground/carpet.1 point

Every year there's always something that threatens our way of doing business. Although I don't think we're out of the woods yet, I'm happy this story has a happy ending and provides some sort of momentary relief going into the xmas season.1 point

Just guessing here, and could be completely wrong, but I bet it has more to do with Lego receiving complaints about newly released products being sold out instantly or at least within a day or two and then the "scalpers" selling a $37 set on Amazon for $100. But yes, it doesn't really make sense because as others have said, you would think that their first step to combat this would be to turn off those listings on Bricklink, the 3rd party selling site that they own. Just an FYI those stunt bikes are defective (the front axels break with normal use) and lego does not have a solution in place yet.1 point

It would make sense to do, but I've never known large organizations to make sense in how they go about doing things.1 point

Right...that's exactly my point. LEGO has control over BL and doesn't have to rely on lawyers so if we start seeing sellers blocked from selling certain products on BL or certain products disappearing altogether on BL, that will give us some idea of what LEGO is concerned about and what it is targeting because it's a lot easier to walk down the hall and have Thomas the IT guy flip a few switches on BL than it is to get Amazon to do anything.1 point

It is possible for authorized sellers to complain to LEGO / LSI about unauthorized sellers and LSI hired Vorys to shut them up / calm them down / show some action1 point

It's not quite the same as shipping account, though maybe it is. Here are links to the two services: https://www.ups.com/upsmychoice/ https://www.fedex.com/en-us/tracking/advanced.html1 point

Amazon has opened the flood gates on Lego sellers. It would make sense that big authorized sellers are not happy about this and looking for ways to thin the herd.1 point

All of this. I am not an attorney but it would seem even a bad attorney could argue this and get any case thrown out. I don't see how LEGO can even pursue this with a straight face given that they own Bricklink.1 point

I understand why everyone wants to use the PPP ratio, but sometimes it just doesn't fully reflect accurately what you are getting with some of these larger sets. (According to the weights on bricklink) 75192 Millennium falcon: 13150 grams / 28.99 lbs = $27.60 per lb of plastic 75252 Imperial Star Destroyer: 12480 grams / 27.51 lbs = $25.45 per lb of plastic 75313 AT-AT: 10708 grams / 23.61 lbs = $33.88 per lb of plastic 75309 Republic Gunship: 5620 grams / 12.39 lbs = $28.25 per lb of plastic I do find it interesting though that the AT-AT comes out to a good chunk higher price for the amount of material you get in the set. We all know there is the huge Disney/Star Wars tax, but I do agree that the AT-AT does appear to be unnecessarily expensive. I think that at the price of $700 it would be a bit more of a reasonable deal. That said, I did buy the set, and it's a beautifully big set as well, but I can understand why the idea of it being too expensive comes from. Sure, if you want to factor in inflation from 2017 the Millennium falcon would cost roughly $907 in todays rates. Which roughly equals out too $31.29 per lb of plastic. In all honesty, in those terms, the AT-AT really isn't that bad of deal. (obviously this is all subjective and everyone's value of worth is completely different.) But this puts it a little better in perspective about where Lego is coming up with the prices, and in all honestly, isn't super out of the line for them and still within reason for the other massive UCS sets that Lego has released recently. For comparison of other big sets: 10276 Colosseum: 10780 grams / 23.76 lbs = $23.15 per lb of plastic 10294 Titanic: 14000 grams / 30.86 lbs = $20.41 per lb of plastic1 point

They are selling the Assembly Square for $210 USD each. I bought 2 to get over the $300 threshold required for international shipping. $225 each all in after free shipping code and taxes. Shipping notification has them shipping separately via DHL arriving Friday. Should be interesting.1 point

From a personal interest in this set I just can't see adding it to my collection anywhere near msrp. It seems way overpriced (yes I get the Disney Star Wars tax) for what you get in piece count, details and minifigures. However, from an investment potential how are others approaching this? Estimated retirement is EOY 2022 so there is time. I can get it for $110 (after discount and cashback), but even at that price I feel like I'd be paying too much.1 point

Every Christmas I'm reminded on eBay thru strange messages that I am the scum of the earth. I'm not able to go back to my messages last year, but here's the summary: "I work for a local charity and I was hoping you could donate the 60266 745pc Ocean Exploration Ship that costs $150 retail" Ya, sorry. Charlie's (Wonka) uncle would pawn that thing in a second or Charlie's life would be in serious danger in the neighborhood The guy who asked had feedback showing several items purchased over $1k and $1k+ items for sale Let's be real dude, this ain't going to Charlie, more like your son Jimmy " This has been a really bad year for us and Jimmy, I was hoping you would understand, and sell me the 60266 745 pc Ocean Exploration Ship for 50% off retail" Again, this other dude's feedback showed several high priced items recently purchased "I can't believe you're selling the 60266 745 pc Ocean Exploration Ship at 150% of retail. You are a rip off and causing Jimmy to miss out on his present" I'm sorry, did you wait all year for this to launch, did you wait in front of the mall for hours to guarantee you would get one only to find out that they had plenty in stock and I wasted a Saturday morning? Did you see the sale a couple of months ago when this thing was 30% off? Maybe you should have taken advantage Karen So, I'm giving in this year and doing auctions starting at a penny. I haven't gotten a message yet. Probably because they realize the market will determine the price based on supply & demand, and it's your peers that are driving the price up. I know I'll miss out on the "emotional" buy it now high margin selling price, but at least I can guarantee that they'll get it by Christmas because the auction ends within the delivery window plus extra room for delivery delays. Sorry for the rant. I know you all will understand this.1 point
