Night time baby feeds continue to pay off. Lots of purchases of 2021 retirees at 50% or more off. This one sat for about 5 hours before I purchased it. Sets listed at 99.8% complete, but he had ordered pieces from PAB to replace the missing parts. Seller had 0 feedback, so I shot them a message to gauge things. Seller responded quickly and shipped them the next day. All arrived in good shape, and all of the parts were sorted into separate baggies. I already have them all... but with Christmas coming up these should turn into a significant gain.8 points

I'm friends with many service members who've fought in the region named Afghanistan. We've spoke at length and none of what's transpired was unexpected. The only reason most Afghans fought on our side was financial gain. Most of the tribes/people in the Afghan region prefer the Islamic values of the Taliban, to the secular progressive rot they believed the United States promoted. The peoples of the Afghan region never embraced a western democracy, nor should they be forced to. They are a feudalistic people comprised of many small tribes, not some nationalistic conglomerate to be ruled by a central leader. The western world is the antithesis to their cultural values. A true clash of cultures. Trying to force our mores on their population was never going work. Especially at the barrel of a gun. Maybe, just maybe, with decades of pornography, birth control, nihilistic propaganda and usury you might get the cultural subversion underway. But, I guess we were unwilling for such an prolonged effort. I think this was intentional. Most believed the Afghan army would fold, which was obvious to many soldiers on the ground. My guess is the United States calculated that a ruling Taliban gave the highest chance of "stability" in the region. These "leftover" weapons gave them advantage against any would be challengers, eliminating a possible power vacuum/civil war scenario where scores would die. This is the only scenario that makes logical sense to my circle of associates.4 points

I am also a big Technic fan, and this is right up my alley. I want this to build and then use to collect all of my kids random lego pieces into more convenient piles.4 points

Just my opinion, but we didn't need to withdraw troops at all. We have kept troops in S Korea since the Korean War (currently 28k troops there), Germany troops since the end of WW2 (currently 35k troops there), and Japan since the end of WW2 (currently 50k troops there). Having 3500 troops stationed in Afghanistan was worth it to keep an allied government in the region. The last US casualty before this mess was Feb of 2020, so 18 months ago. I wouldn't really call that a raging war. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk3 points

I'm very disheartened we pulled out and didn't confiscate heavy artillery, anti-air weapons, up to 300,000 military grade rifles/grenades/launchers, jets/planes, attack helicopters, and military grade humvees. The Afghans just turned it all over to the Taliban. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2021/08/30/what-military-equipment-left-behind-afghanistan-us/5658895001/2 points

Been a long time since the last proper dozer. This thing looks boss and huge, really like the yellow tracks, last one had gray which was ok but this one looks better. Almost up to Jurgen level. As a large technic superfan this is the variety we need to counter all the stupid overpriced remote trucks of which I have bought none. The original unimog is better than almost everything currently available besides the Liebherr and the super cars of course, that hurts. Yikes just saw $450, gonna need to wait for a zavvi sale, as UK, Europe always seem to get way better technic deals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Brickset has the release for this bulldozer and it look massive. Yellow treads seems interesting, but maybe that's how they roll off the factory floor. https://brickset.com/article/63317/first-look-at-42131-cat-d11-bulldozer A quick trip to the Cat page and it looks like the yellow treads are correct.1 point

amazon Japan posted some pics. https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/76240/dp/B08XD62V41/ref=sr_1_1?crid=67LQFICLOPOG&dchild=1&keywords=lego+76240 If they really wanted to make this a superior set to the original, the motorcycle (bat pod) should have been included / integrated. looks quite similar to the original despite the obvious different rear tires. yet another set that looks pretty close to the previous version / remake using 90% parts / build. E.g. Death Star : 10188 vs 75159 and Winter Toy Shop : 10199 vs 10249 we'll know more when folks can build and post comparison details. http://bp-forum.s3.amazonaws.com/monthly_2021_08/63404_71gm0C9rN4L._AC_SL1002_.thumb.jpg.09f321ed9ef612efcc6c2577a742866c.jpg http://bp-forum.s3.amazonaws.com/monthly_2021_08/76023-1.jpg.737998484801862b0834f107e09061bd.jpg1 point

Interesting how Amazon is out of a lot of stock (or at least in & out) lately on a lot of the sets I keep in my cart. Walmart has had them in stock. Speed Champions for example.1 point

Here's some others courtesy of dansdeals: https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/avoid-credit-cards-closed-red-flags-trigger-financial-reviews-adverse-action-shutdowns/ relevant portion: Cycling through your credit line multiple times per month Banks give you a set credit line, which is the maximum risk they want to take on. Some banks will close down your card if you max out your credit line and pay it off multiple times in middle of a billing cycle. I have many friends shut down at chase for this behavior. And wayyyy to many to mention that have been shut down for others. Chase is the worst for shutdowns but synchrony has an awful reputation as well.1 point

My 12-yo just watched The Dark Knight for the first time Saturday night and was asking about the old Tumbler set. Told him it was probably a pipe dream cuz it had risen so much on the secondary market.....so this is perfectly timed for me to be a hero with a surprise Xmas gift!1 point
-
I just can't make any sense of Lego doing this other than they are a business and businesses want to make money. There are a few areas they improved on to better match the actual Tumbler from the movie such as the rear tires and the nose between front wheels. However, removing smooth pieces outside the front wheels feels like a down grade. If I didn't already own 76023 it would be a must buy for me. Otherwise, it feels like a toss up between the two models.1 point

Thinking about rejecting the subversion made me imagine quicksand. My understanding is that at some point in the sinking if you struggle and fight it you only sink faster and that relaxing only slows the sinking but doesn't stop it. There's some point of no return, some event horizon. If society is not yet at that point of no return then it might be possible to reject the subversion with a lot of coordinated work to undo the years of damage. It would take a strong leader, a focal point to get people to rally behind and start a movement (see video below for some humor here). If Western society is past the point of no return (I'm sure many believe that to be true), then it is hard to say what good the efforts are... would it speed up the decay? Would it simply slow the inevitable? Is it better to speak out to try and be that leader and risk being the nail that gets hit with the hammer or stay quiet and try to survive the decay while silently disagreeing with the direction. Isn't that what happened in Germany around WWII? People were scared to speak out. They waltzed through the motions of their lives while disagreeing with the direction, only sharing privately amongst friends and family, but wouldn't publicly speak out and the government / secret police eventually took over?1 point

Ramp in front right corner and red boat hull on the left could be 6542 Seaport. One of my childhood sets. The canyon baseplate is unique to 6584 Extreme Team Challenge. The yellow Technic thing is 8414 Mountain Rambler These sets are from early and late 90s, respectively. Looks about right when looking at the other partially assembled sets. For me, the value would be in the various baseplates, depending on how many are there. If you get lucky, there are a few 1990s sets but probably nothing of great value (that I can see).1 point

Far as I know, yes. We have linked articles from Brickset, Eurobricks, Brick Fan, Hoth Bricks, and Brothers Brick you just reminded me about. I believe there is one other investing website the system censors automatically but I never bothered to ask what it was so no idea honestly. Self promotion of one's own site is different though and I would ask Ed & Jeff about that. They've been fine if you approach them first.1 point

The title mentions recommended blogs so one not yet mentioned in this thread specifically would be The New Elementary. Probably the best I can think of in covering new parts, colors, and the like. I'll have to sift through my links to see if I can find any YouTuber not previously mentioned or considered an obvious known. Anyway good idea for a truly LEGO related thread. Like others, I'm surprised we did not have this already. Don't tempt me. I could play that game for an eternity. Haha. ....Alright maybe one. Loquacious Analytical Neuron1 point

You don't have to be a chef to find out if the food tastes good. You have taste buds. You don't have to be a doctor to find out if the measures taken are appropriate. You have data. And it's plenty of that, released by the usual "official" sources. Based on that, there's lots of criticism, coming from medical personnel & the public, it's just that communication is flawed because the media directs the mass opinion. Most doctors who have an opposing view don't share it, because they fear their whole career & everything they worked for could be destroyed in a matter of days. Two articles mocking them & it's done, close your office or change your identity please.1 point

Stats and the language used regarding them can sometimes escalate things unnecessarily. If your odds of having something occur at a certain point are 0.001% and after a certain event they become 0.002%, one could say your odds of this thing occurring effectively doubles. This is how you turn a pointless statistic into clickbait.1 point

Pretty sure the BLM rallies last year had something to do with it as well. But that was for a good cause and Sturgis is just a bunch of redneck, racist bikers. So yeah the science always says that white racists are more likely to spread covid than law abiding African Americans protesting police brutality.1 point

Lisa Shaw: Presenter's death due to complications of Covid vaccine - BBC News The saddest part, other than being a 44 year old wife/mother of one, is its almost entirely preventable at this point. A radio presenter died due to complications from the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, a coroner has found. Lisa Shaw, who worked for BBC Radio Newcastle, died at the age of 44 in May after developing headaches a week after getting her first dose of the vaccine. Newcastle coroner Karen Dilks heard Ms Shaw suffered blood clots in the brain which ultimately led to her death. The propaganda campaign can be played on both sides. I'm only posting this response to illustrate this fact not to debate vaccine effectiveness or dangers.1 point
