Not a bad idea. Everything isn’t awesome in this thread right now. Let’s take the weekend to just relax and not worry about this thread. If another mod wants to reopen, go right ahead. But I’m closing it until someone else wants to open it back up.7 points

I work in health care, but I'm not an MD and don't work with infectious diseases. My job includes data collection and analysis, though. The challenge in all of this is that Truth is hard to discern. There are multiple competing studies and bad actors on both sides use them to spread lies. For example, the most recent data out of Israel can be read two ways. One read is that vax breakthroughs are over-running the hospitals. But a different read, which views the data (correctly) as bi-modal (Simpon's paradox pic from here) shows the vax is quite effective: https://www.covid-datascience.com/post/israeli-data-how-can-efficacy-vs-severe-disease-be-strong-when-60-of-hospitalized-are-vaccinated Which brings me to the graphic Loghamel posted. The data in the graphic doesn't match what I'm seeing in other places, and it reeks of propaganda. For one, I believe some of the dots on the graphic are double or triple counted. Are the ICU and ventilator 'dots' also in the total population group on the left? I suspect they are. The visual effect is to make the percentage of unvaxxed much larger than it is. A more truthful way to visualize the data would be to use a different colored background for the different stages of care. But more importantly, as the Israel data shows, with no age demographic information included the conclusion is suspect. I think this points to why the disagreement is so heated. Stats are hard and the propaganda is thick. I apologize in advance for another post-and-run. Someday, I'll have time for a proper dialog.6 points

I’ve informed every woman I’ve dated that I’m a board certified gynecologist who is taking a break so there’s no reason for them to call an office that I don’t work for. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

I have none, which is why I try to not post any 'research' I've done or persuade people either way. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.3 points

I'll add a couple. This isn't exactly a cover, but if you enjoy a technician breaking a song down, this is a good one. He listens to Enter Sandman for the first time and then plays it after hearing it once. The comments are golden as well. And I love this woman's voice. She does a great job on all of her songs, but this is one of my favorites:3 points

Part 2 of Modular-Mils. Building this set reminded me that some of the pieces have faded (no sand green ones) and I have a note to buy replacement pieces after Covid. That was a LOOOOONG time ago The rest of the minis are sleeping in the hotel, per my toddler. Yay LEGO!3 points

Someone recommended their new favorite LEGO youtube channel (Emmasaurus) on another thread. Thought why not start a place so that others can share their faves with others, discover new ones, and/or chat about it all? Please consider that eventually that the faces behind these channels and websites are people with feelings. AND they may eventually stumble upon this thread AND we all have varying opinions and expectations of such channels and websites. Some search for reviews, others for investment discussions, for moc ideas, etc. I'll kick it off by saying that Emmasaurus is NOT my fave BUT her videos are positive and better than most I've seen. I'll admit I've "listened" to a few while sorting LEGO. She's upbeat and positive which can benefit us all (promoting others to buy and collect). My two new faves are: HighTeaToys (mostly Harry Potter and LOTR) And Hachiroku24 (great small moc builds)2 points

This thread is toxic (on both sides), and I really don't see much value in it anymore. Am I the only one who would like to see this thread closed?2 points

Who needs advice from people who actually know what they're talking about when you have conspiracy theories and whatever else makes sense to you to guide you? Wow. Well for starters, antibiotics are for... say it with me... BACTERIA. And indeed over-prescription of antibiotics is a worry with superbugs and drug-resistant strains. There is no vax and booster insanity. There are vaccines that basically prevent you from dying. The vaccine teaches your immune system to respond to the virus. That's how immune systems work. You can teach it by getting sick and having a BAD time, or you have some real smart people figure out a way to trigger a similar immune response without the bad time. We're trying to save millions of lives, and I can't tell if you just don't care or you think we're doing it wrong, either way, you've shown over and over that you're out of your depth talking about it.2 points

She talks too fast for me. There was another Australian guy that was good he was newish to lego and was working backwards buying all the modulars off of eBay then unboxing, building and reviewing. He got into that same group, how to get in LAN, and his channel now sux IMO. I understand why they want in LAN $500 worth of free lego 5 times a year.1 point

Now this is a good new thread for a Lego forum (not that what type of oil do you use in your lawnmower crap) and I am surprised we don’t already have one. I was always a The Brick Show and Jang loyalist but brick show as we knew it went away, and Jang has morphed into a twitch streamer but I still like his unbiased reviews if it comes to deciding to buy a set to build. I had recommended Emmasauras when she first came out as a breath of fresh air but she like many of the other streamers seem to follow a cookie cutter playbook to get into LAN and then their channel changes to clickbait thumbnails and I stop watching. I will checkout the 2 you posted tonight. This one is good not sure how she has 10K subscribers but so few views. She is in LAN and has some haters that thumbs down her videos before they would even have had time to watch them. I will look at my others there is one guy that is really good but he is sponsored by lego.1 point

I took a day off from this thread and feel like I got Covid just from reading through everything, or I became immune. I forget what I'm supposed to believe; someone please tell me. Carry on. Yay LEGO!1 point

The video is excellent. Everyone should seriously give it a watch. Great normie tier content to dip your toes beyond the superficial layers. However, it only reveals partial truths and intentionally leaves out much of the deeper meat by design. It’s a gate keeper channel and the sub and view count reflects that.1 point

Perhaps not an entire cover but no denying the man knows how to play the skins and by ear no less. She is an enchanting songstress. And I have feeling Darth Raichu may have introduced me to her singing long ago. I watch Archer so of course I do. Haha. Cheryl Tunt in her Cherlene phase was something. I liked Gypsy Woman. So here is a cover that doesn't add a lot new or much different from the original but the performance certainly is entertaining. I remember featuring a Feels Good Inc. cover by Leo Moracchioli way back.1 point

I’ve had the MyQ for years but just agreed to Key take advantage. You can disconnect Key immediately flyer using this. I’ve also been told that Amazon drivers are usually so freaking they don’t have time to snoop in your garage. They have to get back to delivering. I’ve heard (but cannot confirm) that Amazon will call you if your garage is open for more than a specified period (like 90 seconds?). I would also hope that from a security standpoint they may have it keyed so the system can only access your garage if you have a delivery and it’s within a certain time frame. And that it’s a one time generated passcode.1 point

haven't heard of it...will try if in that neck of the woods Best pizza I ever had is Lombardi's in Manhattan...in Bay Area my standard is Toto's (mainly due to accessibility..I know there's tons of independents that are probably awesome, but I don;t live close enough to experiment...I just keep getting what I know I like) Cybelle's was what I grew up with when we lived in The City...In LA it's Mulberry's1 point

This is an American-centric point of view (and maybe that's what you meant). Most of the world...folks in their country are not thinking it's inevitable that their race will become mixed beyond recognition. A prevalent thought in the US is thinking blending is good...well I think the best example of the pros and cons of blending is in food. There will always be a place for "authentic", always a curiosity for "new", and a class for "fusion"...and we've all seen poor bastardization of all three. Can you imagine a world where there is no more "authentic"...If there's a ever a time where California Pizza Kitchen is the ONLY pizza available I would lose it.1 point

Just to show I was not the one bringing exclusion of a specific race to this thread1 point
-
No, I understood what you meant exactly. You asked people of certain skin color not to show empathy or share experiences even when there are some similarities. That is a sad world where people of a certain race is excluded from the conversation simply based on their race. I thought we are progressing away from exclusion by race ???1 point

Not sure about US, but in UK none of the Seasonal BrickHeadz have performed well. This sounds like it will turn out like 40273: Thanksgiving Turkey. Plus you also find some of the seasonal BrickHeadz pop up the following year after retirement for a short period. Alot better items to pick than this.1 point

Could be that. Years ago I had that happen at B&N. I started getting insta-cancelled and I was not ordering heavy. Called CS and the guy said there was fraud associated with the card. Said I could call a manager/supervisor and probably get it resolved but I just never got around to it. Had it happen at Bloomingdales around the same time but they wouldn't even tell me what the issue was. Just said I could purchase in store. No discussion.1 point

Ordered a piece that I needed on Bricklink - it was only available international, so I purchased enough other items from the seller to make it worthwhile. They send me the wrong piece - This happens way too often.0 points
