  1. Wow over a year later ha! Our basement has been very slow progress. Finished up the drywall & mud/taping. Before and after pic of the Doorway and Barn door. The 2 pics of the sills are before I finished the tape/mudding. Still dreading the wall cleaning/painting, but that won’t take too long. The barn door will keep all the systems and storage on one side and leaves us with 750sqft of finished space. Next up will be finding wood for the sills, about 35 ft of length. Thinking about going with a live edge look but still undecided.

  3. This. 100%. I couldn't care less if 'you' get the vaccine. I do care if a loved one of mine doesn't. I struggled a bit with how I should handle it and decided I would simply tell those that I cared for that I thought they should get the vaccine. That's it. No pressure or arguing. Just a one sentence statement. I felt if one of them died and I hadn't at least told them I felt they should get one, I'd always regret it. My brother, parents and best friend all said, "thanks, but no". A few weeks later when it seemed this Delta variant was a different beast, my brother decided he'd get it. Because he did, my parents decided to. I hadn't said a single word about it since the first time I mentioned it. I thought I'd try my best friend one more time, but he flat out said, "no, never". He said he doesn't trust it. I asked him which part, hoping I might alleviate any concerns he might have and he said, "all of it." This is my best friend of 40 years. Literally been best friends since the first day of kindergarten when I saw a boy picking on him and shoved the kid into a urinal. I've seen him do coke, meth, acid, shrooms, ecstacy, MJ, etc. Pretty much every popular drug known to man. I've also seem him huff paint, vcr head cleaner, and gasoline. But he doesn't trust the vaccine. I just don't get it.

  5. Not sure if this has been said, but as I understand it Covid ICU is different than regular ICU. In most hospitals the Covid area is separated. When news reports the "ICU" beds are full, that usually means the Covid ICU beds, not the necessarily standard ICU beds. With that said some standard ICU beds are also reaching capacity, but mainly because they've cut their numbers due to staffing shortages. I could be wrong, just some information I've gotten from associates wo work in healthcare. I wish the news would specify these differences to give us better context. But I guess that is not their job...

  6. After putting up most of the Walmart clearance haul I finally got around to feeling/sorting out the Mario Character Series 1 bags I've got. Realized I could use a scale to streamline the process and narrow down what I was feeling for in a bag. Out of 87 I came out with 6 full sets, with an additional set if you include the ones my daughter yoinked and opened I've already sold a few complete sets at $160 on eBay. My average buy-in was just $2.26 each ($22.60 for the set). Plus a third of the 20 left over are Bullet Bills!

  17. Sad to hear this and I hope help and a solution are coming, alas if this becomes the norm there simply will not be enough outside aid for everywhere that needs it. The projections said mid September for this level of trouble and we have not even made it out of August. I saw somewhere was offering 50k sign on bonus for nurses, that says a lot about need. 20. We had a lot of rain this weekend so I built the Medieval Blacksmith. Probably the best set I have built in the past 2 years. It has details like a Jamie Beard Modular and some neat new building techniques like the roof. 4 good Minifigures, a horse and wagon, a light brick, a dog, No stickers and Sand Green Nexo Knight Shields, what is not to like.

  23. I was able to get both mario and luigi keychain. Luigi is easy bought through Lego VIP rewards points. Mario I had to log into my Nintendo account (that I never use). I got a couple hundred free coins just for logging in the first time. Then I got the 200 coins from the free ones you can access through Lego VIP redemption. Then I had to buy the coin bank for $50 coins (through the tutorial.). Then I downloaded Animal Crossing to my iPhone. I linked animal crossing and was able to get 300 coins for linking my Nintendo account to Animal Crossing on my iPhone. Then I had enough coins to get Mario keychain. The key here is that you have to buy the coin bank for 50 coins. Otherwise the extra coins you earn by linking accounts and doing missions are greyed out until you have bought the coin bank for 50 coins. After purchasing coin bank you can then add the coins from your missions and linking accounts, etc. Shipping from Nintendo was $7. ish.

  24. not sure the point...because context matters Trump said shooting lysol into arms should be a thing...so I 100% agree w/ Harris's POINT...Trump ALONE saying to take a drug will not convince me...and if he is ALONE in making the recommendation...then I would be pretty skeptical myself.

  30. That sounds right. We had to take our daughter to the ER a few weeks ago (cue: Mathew's reply about how I'm a terrible parent and a lawyer) and it was pretty clear from talking with one of the intake people that COVID patients go in one direction and everyone else goes in another. Come on dad, you're always spoiling the fun.

  32. How many of those “virus” patients are people over the age of 60 and or with pre existing conditions? While we’re at it let’s blame all those people with cancer for smoking or the obese for over eating. The finger pointing at the unvaccinated is insane. You and many others are deluded by the psychos running this shitshow.

  33. So, the public would be more supportive of getting vaccinated if Pfizer and/or Biden sunk more money into providing care? You really are a special kind of stupid.

  34. Either you don't understand the significance of what a lack of ICU beds means or you're one of the "what's a couple hundred more deaths matter?" kind of guy. Either way, gross. This.....this is not how healthcare works. Even if it did you are suggesting a far more expensive and less effective solution when the issue could be better mitigated by more people getting a $20 shot.

  35. this was kind of what started all the staff shortages last year. When the hospitals laid off a lot of employees from all the non covid stuff they cancelled they got jobs as traveling road nurses at 3x the pay. By the time I had my hospital stays start up until now have heard at least 3 say they get paid $20 an hour and roaming travelers get $60 an hour. Hard to get local staff hired at that especially with what they are dealing with. Had multiple nurses and techs while I was in that had taken jobs and left there current positions as they wouldn't compensate them or give them some sort of raise. So they left and got hired in other regions considerably higher. Probably 90% of my staff other than the actual doctors / specialists were not from here. Shortage of beds story. Neighbor of ours got rear ended by someone full speed. Hit his car into the next car. One of them had a pretty back neck injury. They started treating her on the scene and girl asks why aren't we going to the hospital. Told her there was no room there to treat her and they would do everything necessary so she could make an appt with her local doctor. One of my doctors said we might be able to try coming off the Keppra sooner than the 2 years but definitely not now. She was like if you had an episode now and had to go to ER you wouldn't even be seen. Said we'll try it later down the road during a drop off just in case.

  36. If you want to see what not owning your property and abusive use of eminent domain look like I suggest you investigate “property laws” in China and Vietnam. People there truly do have a lease on the land they build on sometimes 50 years sometimes 100 often with the “right” to renew the lease. And to the comments on world economy being upset or changing, if you mean people of democratic nations realizing that the way they spend their dollars, often supporting brutal communist oligarchies, makes a difference in who controls the cards and what the world makeup looks like then I say it’s about bloody time. What hopefully will happen is some form of enlightened economic patriotism wherein citizens of democracies start spending their money like they know and care where it goes, realizing in some sense it is one of the few things an individual has control of to make a positive difference, or negative. I have nearly been able to stop purchasing goods made in China, it has cost me dearly in dollars and time, and of course is not perfect due to supplier masking. That said if you as a consumer are unwilling to pay a high enough price for an item such that your (democratic country) neighbor can earn a living wage making said good then how can that neighbor be expected to pay you a living wage for the work you do for a living. I’m not an economist, not even a freshman year Econ 101 student but this seems obvious and the change it brings will be huge. Demand our corporations do the right thing for democracy and freedom over profit, they will not do it unless we change how we spend, and it is truly very difficult but will get better in time, similar to the organic food movement that 10-20 years ago everyone thought would be outrageously expensive to implement and now organic food costs what 20-40% more, well worth it to not be sucking down chemicals and ruining our fertile land. 38. Not really...ownership of property is a pretty well defined thing at this point in time. You can only be forced off your property or forcibly deprived of the right to possess and own your property if you fail to fulfill a responsibility that goes along with owning such property. To say that you don't own something simply because a legal process exists that could deprive you of your possession of that property under some set of circumstances is an extraordinary narrow and rigid view of what it means to own something. It would be a bit like saying that none of us are actually free because we could be forcibly confined by the government. The fact that the government has the ability to force you to transfer ownership of your property using the power of eminent domain does not diminish the fact that you own the property that you hold title to. The due process clause in the Fifth Amendment exists specifically to temper the power of the government in this area by obligating it to provide just compensation if it takes private property. It always sucks for the person who doesn't want to sell, but has eminent domain exercised on their property. At the end of the day, living in a society like ours requires one to accept certain tradeoffs...you can own all the property you want, but if you don't pay the taxes that help fund the roads that lead to your property or the fire department that exists to protect it in the event of a fire, you are going to lose your right to own that property. Similarly, each of us trades the risk of possibly losing our property to eminent domain for all of the myriad benefits that flow from the things that are only able to exist because the government can force the transfer of ownership of property through the use of eminent domain (e.g., electricity, roads, railroads, etc.).

  43. Nah...I'll pass on the tattoo. None of those things are "normal" in the context of how we were able to live our lives prior to March 2020, but I recognize and accept the fact that we live in a complex world where **** happens that we have to adapt to. I don't like all of the things that we've had to do to adapt to the pandemic, but I accept them because I know that there is nothing to be gained by whining, ignoring the reality that we are confronted with, or comforting myself with stupid conspiracy theories that do nothing to get us all back to where we'd like to be.

  46. I had dozens of treehouses until Dec of last year... when the date got pushed back to 2021, I sold them all at a profit (buy-in was ~30% off) & needless to say, I'm happy about my decision. I would have also sold at a loss. It hurts, sure, especially when the initial date would've been such a short run, but that's the game. There are so many big sets retiring this year, I'd say free up the capital & go for it.
