  1. I'm gonna sound like that old guy that can't keep up with the times.. But dangit...I want to see a real menu when I sit down at a restaurant...I want a real fold-up map of Disneyland...I want to be able to forget my phone and actually function for a day somewhere outside of my home. Has there even been ONE documented case of getting CV off a surface...I'm sure there has, but every industry doing the (cheaper) contactless thing using that as a scapegoat. it's like 90% of effort and resources to prevent probably less than 1% of cases. Turning up the AC or installing fans and opening some windows will do 1000x more to prevent spread than taking away the freaking menus. /rant

  2. The honest truth is that the brickfolio is not my top priority at the moment. I have been working on a completely different LEGO product that in my opinion will have much more value to all of you than the brickfolio. While I know everyone wants a service that will track their investment, looking up the value of a LEGO set is very easy today. I am still getting the listing feeds and have all the data, so I will still have the option to work on this when I am done with the new service. I sat many times at my desk to look at what Brickpicker 2.0 will be and what new value can I bring to you. The sad part is that I don't feel it's enough to justify charging anyone and the affiliate revenue is pretty much worthless at this point. I don't want to flood the site with any more ads and would rather remove them. The LEGO reseller market is so much different today than it was 12 years ago when Brickpicker launched. I have come up with some pretty incredible data sets for this new venture, one that will help LEGO resellers quite a bit. I know this is not good news to all, but for me it is where I feel my limited time can produce the best product and bring something new to the LEGO community. I am taking a gamble with this. Some of you will not find value in it, others will understand it and know how to use it. We will find out soon if the gamble pays off.

  4. NOPE! I own a small business, and involved with several small business associations. We would all prefer cash. The fees that WE PAY so you can have the privilege to use your credit / debit card are F---in' Insane. This year alone I will pay between $35-40k. I could employ 1 more person, or give everyone bonuses AND raises with that kind of money...

  5. It's kind of like not wanting to tell your kids that Santa doesn't exist. You know you need to, and you know you should, you just keep putting it off, hoping they hear it from another 3rd grader instead.

  7. This... My brother in law has recently gone onto palliative care after a long and drawn out cancer battle... I've been mega quiet the last 2 years on the forums as have had my hands full with his business and kids... he was given the all clear at Christmas and discharged after intense chemo. 2 months later we were back where we started and the tumour came back bigger than ever...it has been a slow deterioration but has at least left time for the admin, passwords and general nitty gritty minutiae to be worked out... His 2 kids are the reason I came out of my dark ages and being 8 and 11, Lego has been an absolute godsend as a distraction... not just for them, for me as well... last Thursday he discharged himself from hospital to be with his wife and kids. Covid meant he faced the end with no visitors so he left hospital and 24 hours later 100 or so of his friends and family came from across the UK and all took to the water for the day on boats (they live by the coast in North Wales and best way to socially distance!). It was humbling and amazing. So this is a multi-angled post.. A complaint at the cruelty of cancer... a big thankyou to this community for being who and what you all are... and a reminder to live everyday like it is your last... because it can all change in an instant. Thinking of you at this tough time @Phil B, keep trucking fella

  10. call me crazy, I kinda like the QR code menus. Don't need any sticky residue left behind or salsa stains on the section I want to read. Usually know what I am getting anyways cause I am a creature of habit and once I've had my initial visit that usually is the same thing I order everytime.

  11. Agreed. But it’s all part of the plan. They want us completely reliant on digital. To get there they need to remove all tangible items except your smartphone. We went to the ballgame a few weeks ago. First time in years. No vendors accept cash. A cashless society where you have to carry a “smart” device at all times is coming. New York is sneaking it in with the Excelsior pass. California will be following suit. People are falling over themselves to be in compliance to the covid mandates. The real **** is that they’re giving up their personal freedom in doing so.

  12. I go out to eat 4/5 times a week and have never seen the electronic menu. It's funny that people will sit down at a restaurant around a bunch of people with air being recirculated, not concerned about Covid. But, the thoughts of condiment bottles or menus is scary.

  17. I swooped in and bought one before they went out of stock again thanks to the notification here. It arrived Thursday night and I started building it on Friday after work spending most of Saturday on it. It's not overly complicated but I did have to go back a few times and pop something out because I skipped a step and had parts leftover. The figures are a great variety. I like the add of the landspeeder. Not sure if I needed another of the little capsules although it was a different build from the 2018 set. The Cantina itself displays well my only compliant is that opened or closed, the figures that would be standing by the bar end up on carpet or a smooth plate and falling over. It has plenty of seating when Lego decides to make us a battle pack of aliens to fill it up. I'm still not sure what the little white bracket is for on the side of the bar itself towards the closed nose end. Maybe I installed it backwards and it is supposed to hold Wuher's pistol like in another set. The little Jawa shops are nice, I was hoping one would be like the place the two droids hid. Finishing the build Saturday night, I found myself in the basement digging out all my other cantina theme sets to include the Imp landing craft to the escape pod to set up on a table in the basement.

  21. Just did a week long road trip down to Southern Cal (From SF Bay Area) We hit Pismo Beach (1st time); stayed at an awesome kid-focused Airbnb. Main activity was boogie boarding Then we did Disneyland: and contrary to what was posted earlier on this thread...it's the complete opposite experience now in terms of crowds: max crowds and getting into Rise of Resistance has reach lottery territory (even w/ all my planning, we didn't get in) Then did San Diego: Sea World and then a Water Park 8 hr drive later we are back and ready for school to start tomorrow.

  25. Buy things for less than you sell them for. It's not rocket science, bud. Also, lots of spreadsheets, which as I understand it from the rocket scientists I know, is what rocket science mostly is. So I stand corrected, running a small business is a lot like rocket science.

  31. I usually start shipping to fulfillment centers for Q4 in early September. I ship 100-150 sets per week every week thru first week of December. Shipments are usually 8-12 qty of 20x20x25 boxes. The important point for me is momentum and gradual increase of inventory to limit the drop with IPI. I don’t adjust my FBA shipment methods to avoid accidental delays or lost boxes because while it unfortunately happens it is not prevalent. Now, this year there are new unknowns. First noteworthy change are the restock limits that likely won’t allow more until inventory decreases. It is a timing issue. Second, more and more sets require wasteful bubble wrapping which adds work for nothing and takes more space in the boxes. Then, third, there is a whole new way to ship FBA inventory. It is actually better now in my opinion but it needs a little bit of learning. I don’t think there is a perfect method to ship in FBA inventory. My advise is to keep it simple and not changing your methods because of potential accidental issues that are not prevalent. I would pay more attention to what Amazon changed from last year and think about how to best adapt to those changes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
