Every year of the olympics, I wish we could watch another countries coverage of the games. I had the pleasure of watching the Sochi winter games while in Germany and it was such a more pleasant experience than watching the NBC, watered-down version we get presented here in the US. Back to this year, I guess we will take a Gold Metal in fencing in exchange for a USA BB loss to France. The "firsts" are probably my favorite part, the unexpected wins, like the 13-year old Japanese skateboarder winning Gold.3 points

The majority of recent content at least on Netflix seems to be aimed at women and the LGBTQ communities. There's not a lot of new content on there that interests me as a 46 year old, white, hetero male...except Cobra Kai...but that started out as a YT show so not even a Netflix original. It's kind of surprising that they are continuing in this direction with MotU. MotU could bring in more male viewers of all demographics even if they tied in some modern themes and made it more mature. Instead they're continuing to aim their content at the previously mentioned demos by (repeatedly) killing off He-Man and making Teela a lesbian. It's almost like they want to create a stereotype of the communities with the content they're creating...kind of like blaxpoitation films of the 70's.2 points

We have had a similar conversation with our daughter. It seems one of the main differences in Gen-X folks (like my wife and me) vs. Millinials (like our daughter) is that Gen-X is/was all about casting off labels (“Don’t label me!”), whereas Millinials seem to want to label everything, perhaps in an effort to figure out where they fit in in the world. Gen-X kids didn’t want to fit in. We wanted to be our own thing, unique to ourselves, at least that’s the stereotype. What actually happened a lot of the time was that we were “totally unique”… just like everyone else we liked to hang out with. 😂 It’s a fundamentally different way of thinking and a source of lots of misunderstanding on both sides of the generation line. People are funny. For what it’s worth, I’m completely with you on the whole “let’s just let toys and cartoons be toys and cartoons, not some political statement” thing. Not everything has to have some esoteric meaning. Some things should just be fun. Save the preaching and teaching for church and school. At least that’s how I feel about it. I am not necessarily “right” and folks who disagree are not necessarily “wrong”. (There is zero hate or intolerance in this post. I’m a musician and have lived in an extremely diverse world for most of my life. I just try to be myself and let others be themselves. Not that anybody asked.)2 points

August is up (I struggle creating new threads on my iPhone). $200 for the sail boat. Possible to stack 3 GWPs, but would need to purchase Classic, Marvel, etc. Sailboat only available 8/1-8/3 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Maybe if you followed the conversation you'd understand his point better. Basically we're wondering why Mattel, a toy company, would sign off on a show that purposely alienates a key demographic--males who grew up with the show and had all the toys...but who now have the extra disposable income that comes with adulthood and maybe just want to collect newly released He-Man toys. I don't know, just seems like an odd business decision. But Hasbro also purposely released a Troll doll that squeals with joy when you touch her privates...maybe something truly perverse is going on in Toyland.1 point

Master of None (not of the universe) is a perfect example of this. It got Me Too’ed, canceled, but came back. It went from one of the best shows on Netflix to unwatchable. When I look at the Top 10 I can tell I am no longer Netflix’s target audience and I have been with them since you could get 2 DVDs a week in the mail.1 point

Wish I had no more complaints, but I'm back for more. Basically, made a doctor's appointment for this morning. Told him I was going. He said no. I said I'm going. I went to said appointment. Got a note from my doctor that excuses me through the end of this week (basically to my last day). He wrote back that he's going to mark me Unexcused Absence (e.g., I won't get paid), and that he's going to consult HR about further disciplinary actions. My union said, "oh, no he's not"1 point

Probably to stroke some current VIP ego into plopping $200 for a GWP1 point

No, Marvel GWP sunsets on 8/15 and Mario GWP goes live 8/16. In theory you might get in on the overlap at midnight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Aprons are so 2020. No need for those as LEGO make it super easy for everyone. Just buy a box (of 24) and get 2 complete sets.1 point

Thanks that's good to know. Managed to get a chat going and they said more than once "we've had a high volume of orders" with no more explanation. Okay LEGO... I'm like a beaten dog who keeps coming back to the owner... finger on the trigger for the gunship. Every time I tell myself maybe I should vote no with my wallet for once.1 point

Looking like an extended Lockdown for Sydney - and my eBay sales are up (10.5% according to eBay) compared this time last year. Had been bouncing between Auspost Band 1 and Band 2 parcel rates since March - and have been Band 2 for the last 2 months - never say no to discounted postage. Not a great fan on mangled payments - but no issues to date (touch wood), and just have get use to it.1 point

All the 80’s cartoons were built around selling toys. As an adult I’m not going back and rewatching the cartoons. I don’t care about He-Man as a character or Teela or She-Ra. I recently started collecting Transformers again (along with the early 80’s Japanese brand die cast robots I loved as a kid). But I’m not going back and watching the cartoons. I just like the toys. If they reboot Transformers as a show I wouldn’t watch it. They probably make Grimlock Lbqt. He’s just a cute, dumb robot dinosaur. I don’t want him to be anything more than that.1 point

Thank you once again Amazon for providing me with an excellent customer experience. Although every seal was broken your shipping associate was kind enough to tape it with packing tape so that wouldn't come open and lose parts while being shipped. Placing the shipping label directly on the product was great. The kids love the fact that they did not have to open the box to actually see what had arrived. And fortunately the hole in the side of the box allowed us to even preview the contents before opening the box. Sent from my moto g power (2021) using Tapatalk1 point

While Dimensions may be tied to a series of consoles which will inevitably be unsupported in due time, the base video game was great fun easy enough for anyone to dive into. (The cutscenes were done really well to boot.) Hidden Side was a quirky experimental romp through "augmented reality" with builds good enough to stand on their own outside of the program including all the unique characters. Unfortunately it too shares the same ill fate of being unsupported in the near future outside something of a backup on the LEGO Company's server. Regarding Vidiyo, I could understand their concept in trying to make a safe social platform for children to create and share quick music videos. If there is anything I will commend them for is their emphasis on safety. (Much as Fortnite for example being the big thing, how many parents let their kids partake in the forums for that multiplayer competitive/cooperative online game?) What I saw with Vidiyo, the process from start to finish was limited, bizarre, and ultimately repetitious. Something around a hundred different printed tiles made to insert various effects and moves into a video project yet they are all the same from one to the next except this had more sparkles while that more lens flare and those more doots. Though I stand by believing these (Vidiyo) minifigures are part of the most fun and creative lineup for a collectable minifigures esque theme, I simply cannot endorse the cost of the "Beat Box" sets essentially shelling $20 for a single character with some special tiles on top of a stand inside a plastic case. Even if they retailed for half that amount, I would find the pill hard to swallow still honestly. Then there is the subject of the blind boxes replacing the former blind bags crossing that line right over into a real life loot crate. I suppose if there were any consolation prize, these blind boxes forced casuals into buying the minifigures they actually wanted from the secondary market. Now I remember Dimensions being advertised everywhere, Hidden Side somewhat, Vidiyo however outside of the few promos before and after the official launch turn up a blank. Those few did stand out but where was the rest to carry the theme onward? For as much as time, effort, and funds the LEGO Company banked on this, they should have pushed it just as hard as Dimensions had been. They tried so hard and got so far but in the end it doesn't even matter.1 point

Bought a complete 7740 off a friend for 200 EUR recently. I remember looking at catalogs for hours as a kid, always admiring this set. Only problem with this purchase is that the set is now at my parents’ house. Need to wait until there is a need for a trip across the ocean to pick it up. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

75942 Velociraptor: Biplane Rescue Mission has retired in Europe 5 months early, and 75939 Baby Wu lab will follow soon as it has vanished. Retirement dates will be all over the shop. Is there a retired 2021 thread yet?1 point

Hell of an ROI on those. Although I still see CL postings for some of those sets. I think I was close to 100 Doctor Who Cybermen/Dalek sets because I wanted to create an army. Down to 10 or so now - because they were moving at a good clip last summer.1 point

There have been efforts to destroy old TV & movie franchise by rebooting and remaking them with absolutely abysmally written new versions. They did it with Star Trek with Discovery and Picard, Star Wars with ep 8, Dr Who with the latest doctor, Thundercats with Thundercats Go, etc, etc. They took the established fandoms down with these moves. Unfortunately, He-Man is just the latest casualty. The part that I do not understand is how Mattel let this happen with MotU. How did they not learn from Hasbro and rows upon rows of discounted Rose Tico figures everywhere? As I pointed out several months ago, Mattel obviously put A LOT of money behind the MotU Origins action figures line. The line includes the Castle and just about every character that was in the 80s show. How is this show going to help sell the Origins line and also Revelations line? Who are the target audience for this show? How did they expect old fans to stick around after they killed off beloved characters? How was this a show for new younger audience with so many deaths in it ? (Side note: if you watch how smug Kevin Smith was when bragging about killing a joke of character, one could not help but wonder if he ever sit down and watched the original show.) The biggest losers are fans of Teela from the 80s TV series. Based on various reviews, she is now written as narcistic & selfish character, unlike in the old show. But hey, if Mattel think this drastic change will sell more toys, what does this 3PS in his basement know about retail anyway? Oh, btw, it looks like MCU is next. You could see the writings were on the wall when a supposedly hero character tortured and imprisoned a town full of people for weeks and the writers could not bother to write any repercussion for her, not even remorse.0 points
