The wonderful world of flowers alone would disagree. They're are all pretty kinky. And we can't prescribe concepts like male or female to other organisms, because they are human conceptions applied to things that have no need for them. It says more about our societay's expectation of defined sexes than it does the animal when we try to assign binary gender to other things. Your later example doesn't apply here though. The animosity people feel towards this set is the proof that there is still a lot of anti-l gbt resentment in society. If a company wants to make 6-fingered gloves for a small portion of their audience, no one is going to complain. The company is servicing a small portion of their audience who has gone unrepresented in the market. Similarly, LEGO makes a lgbt set and it's just one in their entire catalog. However, people come crawling out of the woodwork to complain that it's "too political." What's the only difference here? I can't see anything other than people bristling at the idea of l gbt people being treated as equals. The government isn't forcing companies to make 6 finger gloves. As society moves forward, groups of people are able to see themselves/their needs represented in more products and media. If you don't need a 6 finger glove, then just don't buy it. Complaining about it does nothing but make the 6-finger folk feel unwelcome. I'm gonna stop here for now though, 'cuz I've said my piece and don't want to make any more waves. I like you guys too much to drag us down any further. Everyone is awesome.8 points

Science is not on your side here. Nature is not binary. It comes in many forms and flavors. Papayas have 3 different sexes. Male seahorses give birth. Male giraffes are overwhelmingly bisexual. Life started when a cell divided asexually. Nature, despite its cruelties, is the most open-minded goddess of them all. The concept of "normal" is a social construct of rules imposed on a minority by the majority. For those born outside of normal, it is oppressive and often unnecessary. Perhaps use that for self-reflection and realize that feeling victimized is exactly how lgbt people feel all the time when they are treated like a problem for engaging with "regular" society.6 points

You’re using obscure examples that don’t necessarily make sense. Male seahorses give birth yes but it’s because the female deposits her eggs inside him. Biologically the male seahorse still produces the semen required to fertilize the eggs. There are very few species of life capable of Parthenogenesis. Fascinating but nature most definitely is not asexual as a norm.4 points

I'm sure parents would rather not go into this at what they perceive as too young...but the reality is, for children that fall into the non-binary or mainstream...they are experiencing these differences and already been given messaging long before they start stacking LEGO and are probably already fairly 'indoctrinated' and likely super confused about it already. it's not like at age 13 a child is suddenly aware they are "different"...that feeling likely goes back as far as they can remember and it's actually good of LEGO (altho far from perfect) to attempt to address the messaging in a medium that children are active in. also sexuality isn't about sex...it's identity. most of us probably take for granted that at a certain age, for example, we knew to use the Men's room and always did without a second thought...now think about what it would be like if the choice was not clear4 points

Turner Syndrome (X), Trisomy (XXX) and Tetrasomy (XXXX) beg to differ. Furthermore, it is by now very well known that there is more to the sex you identify with than the chromosomes you carry. Yes we can start calling people “X-ers” and “Y-ers”, but you still create super diverse groups doing so where making assumptions about the whole group brushes people under the rug. I am personally quite happy with the current notion that you need to celebrate people for who they are. Live and let live. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk3 points

You’re not part of the problem unless you’re mean to other people. If the other people are being mean to you then they are the problem. If people are nice and decent to other people then there is no problem. I’m not religious but the “do unto others as you would have done to you” is what it is about.3 points

LEGO cancels The Punisher. LEGO cancels The Osprey. LEGO cancels the Crooks Hideout. LEGO caved under "political" pressure to cancel each of those items. LEGO has been dipping it's toe into areas that are political more and more. I think it's a fair criticism for people to say its "too political" without being labeled as having trouble with "the idea of l gbt people being treated as equals."2 points

X and Y chromosomes are found in nearly every living creature or plant on earth. Some species are designed as asexual and can change sexes naturally. If "male" and "female" are problematic, then maybe we should just start calling ourselves XX (female) and XY (male) people. That would eliminate all other options as there are only two combos that have ever been found. And why are there two markers? Because there are two parts, one female and one male that are joined together. It's not just the XY chromosomes that have two parts, every part of DNA has two parts, one from each sex (23 pairs). It is also the reason why a human cannot impregnate another species - different chromosome count. On a side note, unfertilized human eggs can begin developing into a child. However, it will never grow properly and lack a skeleton, muscle, etc. It is called "Parthenogenesis" = "virgin birth / origin". So while some species can develop that way, humans are unable to. The only other exception is intersex people - those having both sex organs. However, apparently they are only able to impregnate themselves (if they actually have both fully formed sex organs, most do not) and when they do, they only give birth to male children (only 11 such pregnancies are known to date). With only 11 such pregnancies, that is clearly an exception and not the norm for everyday life. I just see the male/female aspect to life like gravity being 32 ft/s^2 (9.8m/s^2). It's just how the world works.2 points

That's what I used to think, but that's changing. For example: Ibram X. Kennedy and other major 'thought-leaders' have been preaching that you're either racist or anti-racist. Therefore if you're not actively fighting against racism and racist policies (as defined by them, conveniently), you're perpetuating systemic forms of oppression. And (by design) this isn't something that can be ignored, either, because their ideology has taken a cultural hold, and they've been developing corporate training and educational curriculum. Curriculum, mind you, that does tell people they're part of the problem based on immutable characteristics (e.g. Coca Cola's training slides that told employees, literally, "Be less white."). It's frustrating because there's truth in some of their messaging; there are things that need to be addressed. I'm interested in doing the research, too. Unfortunately, I have kids that could be adversely impacted so, lately, that time is spent learning about these "Trojan Horses" that use righteous causes to justify tactics that, to me, violate the golden rule as well as core principals of this country.2 points

If you are 17, I personally will say that there are lots of other things that the money can be better spent in I.e. saving for college / University, first car, travelling for experiences, learning about finance for future and things like ISA's / Pensions (or 401K is it in USA?) as 16k invested in a world tracker fund via compound interest would probably be worth alot more in 10/ 20 years (I am not a financial advisor, just giving some general advice). If you did want to invest in lego, start of small (100's or 2k etc) depending on your budget, but if you are 17 I don't know how the tax stuff would work for you, as even though it is all boring stuff, you would still need to look into it.1 point

Not went through list, but judging by the new box list and pictures price seems fair. However, this would take a HUGE amount of time sorting / confirming parts etc. I personally regret starting parting out sets as it is such a time drain, and if you work out your time per hour (compared to your day job), it probably isn't worth it. Can you make money parting out this stuff yes. Is it worth the time? I personally will say no, as time is precious and you can easily just buy some brand new sealed sets and make the same amount of profit for alot less work.1 point

i think here in the uk people dont really care how you wanna be seen, if you are male & want to live as a woman, go ahead & vice versa. it becomes a problem for a lot of folk when the stuff like JK rowling comes out ( trans women can't have periods etc, trans man to woman sues NHS because they wasnt invited for smear test).. its gets peoples backs up.. hence why labour are now irrelivent. people are sick to death of having stupid crap rammed down there throat... all this 100 genders & 3 year olds having sex changes. its madness. this set was in the daily mail & got some extreme heat (not good heat) live & let live but lets just be real. when they dig you up in 1000 years you will be male or female but thats not the point is it?1 point

Monopoly and controlling prices because one has acquired nearly all of a product inventory nationwide is a concern. I agree. However, this is not to be mixed with free trade whereby a product in short supply and in high demand command a higher price. This for me is different and it should not be touched. Unfortunately I am concerned the DC lawyers may attack free trade with the intent to prevent monopoly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

You have to reach out to include single cell organisms like bacteria for that statement to be remotely true. Outside of single cell organisms, the majority of life forms need female and male sexes to procreate. It is necessary for a society to function by constructing norms based on majority. Society will be crippled to a crawl if it has to consider every single permutation of the outlier before it makes any move. it is a matter of practicality. Even when looking at something as simple as how many fingers humans have. Vast majority of people are born with 10 fingers. However, nature produces people who were born with more than 10 and less than 10. Heck, I went to school with someone with 11 fingers. Should every glove manufacturer produces pairs with 11, 12, and 9 fingers in the name of inclusivity? Even if you say yes, the manufacturer that does would need to spend resources to accommodate small minority of customer instead of using the resource to invent and produce better more stylist gloves for the majority, ie the oppressing 10 fingered humans.1 point

Each of these doomsday scenarios can be argued against. I would contend the opposite change is happening. Especially the idea of exponential population growth. Crashing world economy = Less demand for fossil fuels. Grand Solar Minimum has begun = Possible long term global cooling. Birth rates are crashing across the globe, sperm counts plummeting and woman having children later and later = An ageing, declining world population. Sadly most dads did not teach us to farm with a donkey, raise chickens or have a nice garden. We are worthless husks of men whose lives depend on the logistical nightmare that is the world economy. Once major fault in that chain and 80% of the world is doomed. If people cannot see our fatal weakness after watching the Covid fiasco, I'd say there is no hope for them. If you are spending all your money "investing" in math problems and not preparing your family for what comes, I do not know what to say. At least if I blow all my money buying LEGO, maybe I could build a shelter from all the bricks. That string of characters on you "wallet" won't buy you a damn thing when it all comes crashing down.1 point

so, I'll admit that I am just a dummy with some ideas about the future. Most of the time I am lucky enough to know that I don't know as much as I think I know, and that many of the things I think of as solid ground just need a bit of water before they are very squishy. And, obviously it would be super great to pick the knife up off the floor, but mainly that metaphor is funny but a crappy illustration of the issue. I believe that the world will be very different in the next 20-40 years. I believe that we are sitting at the edge of an event horizon, where it is impossible to reasonably predict the future based on the past. Our dads taught us to farm with a donkey pulled plough, but if we want to pass this farm down to our kids, we better be the first one in the county to get one of them new fangled tractors. I don't know if BTC, ETH, ADA, LTC, OMI will factor in heavily in the future, but It seems like Cryptoassets are going to play a role for MYRIAD different reasons. And, the returns seem to be asymmetric, but there is no way to know until years from now. And so, I put in what I can afford to lose, and I don't sell. Meanwhile, most of my money goes in to boring, moderately performing assets. But I do push it. Because in 20 years, I won't miss the $2000 that I occasionally dupmped into crypto, and the $100 a week that I DCA. So if it is worth zero, whatever. But, there is the possiblity that $20,000ish invested over 2017-2021 will turn into $500,000 or more. Each generation is lucky if they get one asymmetric opportunity. And so, As long as I don't FOMO buy at $63k and FUD sell at $30k, I think it's a win. I bought more at $40K, and $38K and then $39K... did I catch a falling knife? Hard to know, ask me in 24 months. Seriously. Ask me on May 25th 2023. I think it is an easy bet to make at whatever level is a no brainer for you. because of its possible asymmetry. Also, we all need to have our number... Your number is basically whatever $ number times .04 equals the amount of annual cash you require for the lifestyle you want. One dollar more than your number is wasted time (the only limited resource) if you do something to earn it that you wouldn't choose to do if you didn't have to earn it. Most people need/want more. How much? MORE! So, that is my deal. Makes sense to me.1 point

I agree with your valuation assessment. I know some that call crypto a commodity, except with a commodity you still have something tangible and it is accepted as such world-wide. Crypto is basically pixels. Much like when someone buys an in-game product. In side the game it is rare and valuable, outside the game it is worthless and meaningless. (I.E. If someone refuses to accept crypto as payment, then it is worthless). At the same time, if the game shuts down - there is no recouping your hard-earned (fiat) money that you put into the game. Personally, I look at crypto as a collectible. It is worth what the community believes it is worth. Before everyone assumes that means up and up, there are many collectibles that are all but worthless now (minus the rare one that people really want). Crypto is also different from a mint or bank. Both have regulations for producing and keeping money. Crypto has no regulation to speak of, except what each crypto allows - in some instances it is the crowd. Not many have taken crypto seriously, but in the USA the SEC and IRS are now getting involved. I wonder if the publicity of the pipeline company paying off the hackers in crypto is a bit of a tipping point. I'm not saying the ride is over, but it is changing.1 point

Some great points in this thread about making sure you understand what you are getting into and what is a reasonable amount of risk given your own personal financial situation ... But can we stop calling it gambling when large corporations and prominent investors (Musk, Dalio, Cuban, O'Leary, etc) are putting money into it? Speculation? Maybe. Gambling? I'm not so sure.1 point

Sorry, I don't, but the whole market moves with bitcoin. It is the rising tide that lifts all boats and wrecks all boats. It's basically what all other crypto is backed by, like gold is supposed to be backed by the dollar but isn't anymore. So based off BTC you can make a fairly informed decision where we are with ETH. Next logical question would be how does it move with BTC?1 point

The name of this set is misleading. Using an inherently inclusive word (everyone) to represent an inherently exclusive group (LGBTQ+) is problematic. If LEGO want to celebrate Pride month, then call the set what it is, 2020 Rainbow flag celebration (or something along the line). However, if LEGO truly want to celebrate everyone, then they should have included Minifigures in all available colors they can produce. Add light green, grey, light grey, tan, etc etc. Imagine a little girl whose favorite color is light green looking at this set and turning to her mom saying "but I thought it says EVERYONE"1 point

No, we don't need to be stepping away from anything. I don't have to do nothing. I can tolerate it, but I don't have to support, celebrate or accept it. Same way they don't do it. I'm only returning their behaviour. Ironic how this whole movement, a minority, cries for freedom, but doesn't care one bit about the ones, maybe the majority, who don't want this change, this new world. What about their freedom? Isn't it hypocritical? We now live in a society where I can support this & but can't say anything against it without getting cancelled. Not everyone has the same moral structure where you can do anything without consequences in this life, guess what, some still believe in God & an afterlife. And it's not just a few who believe it, even if some would like it that way! What about those who do & those who want to respect certain laws? Maybe they have a different idea of decency, how about respecting that?1 point

If I were to look upon this set as just a build, it is a nicely simple one. However the inclusive message behind the set makes such an opinion irrelevant really. The LEGO Company could have passed over the inclusion of hairstyles making all included minifigures boringly bald but in doing so would have undermined the very statement this set is supporting. Particular hairstyles and colours have typically or habitually been seen or classified as either masculine or feminine for the longest time. As society goes on we are slowly stepping away from that "ole world thinking". And if not then we need to be. Honestly I love this set, the minifigures and what it all stands for. I praise the LEGO Company for openly supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and working towards a diverse workplace with Stonewall, Workplace Pride, and Open For Business.1 point
