I grew up in Orlando. Space Shuttle was part of our culture. I watched Challenger blow up with my naked eye standing in the outdoor field of my school yard when I was in middle school. We would watch launches on TV and then seconds after the shuttle clears the top of the tower we would run outside and watch it go up with the naked eye. It was a great time for space travel. I also have a good family friend that is an air traffic controller at the Kennedy landing facility. One time (pre-9/11) the 747 was there after dropping off the shuttle. My friend called me up and asked if my wife and I wanted to come to NASA to see the 747. We got a whole behind the scene tour of the facility. Got to go inside the 747. Sit in cockpit (the whole thing is completely gutted as you can imagine to reduce the weight), climb the yellow tower they used to remove the shuttle off the back of the 747. It was super cool. He took us out on the runway and showed us the marks where the front tire touches down and makes the skid mark (they paint a circle around them with the STS number to mark the moment in time). The tower called us on the radio while were were there and informed us to get off the runway as the 747 was getting ready to take off. We literally pulled a few feet off the runway into the grass while the 747 took off right in front of us. It was so cool. An experience I'll never forget. He said one of the biggest challenges they have at the landing facility is keeping wildlife off the runway. Apparently fences don't work very well. A 747 / Space shuttle combo lego set would be super cool.10 points

Yea a set that was available for 8 minutes will certainly lose value. Especially once the initial wave sells and it's extremely rare. No one wants that. 🙄9 points

So when the first space shuttle launched on April 12, 1981 I was in Florida on vacation, and we pulled over got out of the car went to the beach and watched it take off. It was amazing. Star Wars was just a few years earlier. Star Trek the Movie. I kept up with them building the shuttle. Buck Rogers TV Show using as a deep space orbiter what looked like a shuttle. It was an amazing time to be a kid and dream of our future. Yes any model of the Shuttle means that much to me. Its a symbol for all of that and the USA. Lego space sets bring all that back to mind. That includes getting an exclusive Ulysses. I hope we can return to that type of dreaming of technology and exploration for the future.6 points

NASA was of MAJOR interest to kids/adults throughout the 1960's - 1980's. It was not only a symbol of space exploration, but it was also a symbol of the Cold War between the U.S., China, and USSR. We did not have instant availability to videos and shows 24/7 that covered space exploration. When a space launch occurred, it was watched by as many viewers as they had during the Super Bowl.5 points

If you can't handle everyone logging into the VIP rewards at the same time, maybe don't tell everyone to log in at the same time.5 points

The first time I saw 2 booster rockets land simultaneously on their landing pads, it brought back the same feeling I had watching launches, landings, space walks, and International Space Station reports as a kid. Honestly, the large Starship returning from sub-orbit to near successful landings has been bringing back the same excitement as well.4 points

And nowadays it's just mainly Elon Musk saying "Haha, rocket blast off", right? (Tbf though, his stuff is pretty amazing). I will say that if we ever put a human on Mars, I think the world might experience the sort of feelings you're talking about. Hope so anyways.4 points

LEGO response Huw posted in an update: Update: Earlier in the day this article encouraged you to contact Customer Services to complain. It seems many of you did which has prompted the company to issue the following statement: “We’re very sorry about your experience with our current VIP promo. We do our best to make sure items like this one are available to as many LEGO fans as possible, and we know how disappointing it can be when you can’t get the LEGO set that you want. "Listening to our fans helps us get better, so thanks for letting us know we got it wrong this time. We’re taking a very close look to see what wasn’t quite right, and I’ve shared your comments with the correct team so we can do better in the future.“4 points

Lego's inability to handle large traffic made this the debacle that it ended up being. I would give them a pass if this was the first time, but this happen EVERY SINGLE TIME there is a rollout of an in demand product. This has been going on for several years now. Had Lego said enter a raffle as we have 5k of these and winners will be emailed at 9am EST on 4/14/21, I think everyone would have understood the odds of getting one. Leaving it up to the Lego IT Gods leaves much to desire as some devices work, many don't. Different people seeing different screens, etc. It was a mess as it always is. The the aftermath of pissed off customers who didn't get one complaining to CS about the lack of support on the IT end. It has to be infuriating for them to take the brunt of the vitriol from AFOLS who didn't get what they wanted. So in short, Yes, I do blame Lego IT for making this a disaster that it is every time. Your website should not crash every time you launch a product.4 points

This in the terms and conditions is much easier than fixing the website. I've been here so long I've started enjoying the roller coasters. Everyone put your arms up, we're about to crest the hill. My grandparents lived in Titusville, FL, just across the river from Cape Kennedy. They could watch the launches from their porch. Going to NASA was the one thing I wanted to do every time we visited them. Before my grandparents passed away we had visited NASA around 18 times (sometimes twice a year). I never got to see a shuttle launch (missed several by just one week) but NASA allowed tours by the launchpad even while the Shuttle was awaiting launch (saw that at least twice - parents have pictures somewhere). I once got to see the shuttle return to Cape Kennedy riding piggyback on the 747. That was impressive unto itself. That is also the one LEGO set I'm waiting for. Even a GWP mini version would be awesome.3 points

This weekend I got home on Friday to another round of "daddy build another pirate ship". So we built 70618 Destiny's Bounty. Picked it up on Mercari for $60, with only bags 1-3 open, to allow me to sell our sealed copy. Missing the stickers, but ordered them on Bricklink this morning. All we have left pirate ship wise is the 3-in-1 creator ship, and Barracuda Bay. I assume they will be on deck soon.3 points

I didn't get the space coin. This is the first time I've mentioned it. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But whining about stuff doesn't get you anywhere.3 points

I bought this on eBay myself not long ago, but due to life circumstances I can't keep it and I'm just hoping to get my money back. Or go full balls to the wall and provide them a dollar amount after fees/shipping. This is the option I couldn't help but go with if I received the same message.3 points

What’s the item? I would just ignore. Don’t reply anything where eBay rules against you later.3 points

Built these over the last few nights. I'll keep them out for a couple of weeks and then pack them up until my son is ready for them. He's already pretty good at using the catapults and driving the horsies.3 points

I confess I tend to be sarcastic in such cases, but saying nothing is typically better so that it doesn't escalate. You never know when a crazy is on the other end. Or if this is a winning bidder / purchaser, I would tell them they got it for a bargain and that you're taking a loss (after fees and shipping). That should shut them up.2 points
