I had a score at the local thrift store last week. Long sentimental story ahead. I moved to Japan a few years ago it's been rough not being able to see my family due to Covid. My mother, who always enabled my LEGO addiction, has been taking me to Lego clearance since I was 10 years old. She doesn't know much about Lego but she loves hunting, scanning and only occasionally stashing sets through the aisles. 2020 was the first year we couldn't do that together, and it hit me really hard. On top of that, Lego is really expensive in Japan. REALLY expensive. There's no logic to it, but the smaller sets are usually less accessible than the more expensive ones. I've stockpiled a lot of good US online deals (per you guys) but I've just had to ship them to my parents and hope one day the pandemic ends to build them. So last week, I bike to the thrift store. Japanese thrift stores are great because they take care of their stuff, but they're expensive as all get out. Only like 10-30% cheaper than retail. I don't have much money since I'm just stopping in for Pokemon stuff for my friend. I'm browsing and see a crate on the floor. There is a sealed bag of bricks sticking out, and my LEGO alarm explodes. I pick it up. The entire crate is full of sets. Almost all the Overwatch sets, the entirety of Mario's first wave, the Ninjago set with Akita, a Friends set with a pink narwhal. Knowing Japanese kids, every set seems 100% complete (the extra pieces are even in a small zip in each bag). I am beyond excited. I tally it up. It's a lot but I can do it. It'll fit it in my bike basket. I think. Yeah, my balance is good enough. Wait. WAIT. I don't have enough cash. I had to hobble over to the counter, the only foreigner in either the store or rural Japan, with a year's supply of LEGOs. In my childish Japanese, I have a one-sided toddler conversation with the cashier. It's mostly grunting and pleading with my eyes. She just nods along to my sentences, which scares me that I'm making zero sense. "ATM money machine have here?" "Me cross street, get money from magic money box, okay?" "Watchy watchy Lego pwease? No sell other to manchildren, pwease?" I hand the entire stash over the counter, pray to God she understood me and book it. I jaywalk across the street because I gotta there before the ATM closes (yes, that's a thing in Japan). I am almost hit by a car but I must survive. I dash back, sweaty and war-torn. Every other Japanese person is looking at the deranged foreign animal, grunting and chanting BRICKS BRICKS BRICKS. I seize my prize from behind the counter and fling the cash over, texting my mom that I need to call her and tell her the good news. She thinks I have gotten engaged. I tell her it's better than that. All in all, I paid about 200 for everything. I know that these prices are not great by American standards but this would be at least 1000 dollars worth of LEGO if purchased new in Japan (and that's pretty much the only way to get it here). Now I can build and play and wonder how to get it all back to the states.4 points

Feeling much better, thanks. First week or so was a little scary....shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, sleeping about 15 hours a day. Appetite’s been in the dumper, so I’ve lost some weight too (which is not a terrible side effect). Would love to get my taste and smell back soon... And hoping the TP link Deco solves my WiFi issues!3 points

Good rule of thumb. If someone posts that something is available for 99.99 and you can't get it at that price. That means it's gone. I got 5 of them from the other sellers option. It was obvoius. It was easy. There were no tricks. You aren't missing it. If it's gone it's gone.2 points

IMO it's too early...Thrawn is setting up to be next big mainstream villian in the SW uni. And he would be an awesome one...unique look (being blue), possibly the most instinctually superior since Palpitine with a similar demeanor like Hannibal Lector. He's also a great fighter in his own right. I also think fans will appreciate him not being force sensitive and not really caring about it. A nice change. And no one knows about him...yet. When he blows up the Phantom set is the ONLY MF of Thrawn. Also lots of buzz about characters from Rebels hitting Mando and Ahsoka series...but again no one knows about them...YET The Ghost is the next MILF I sold my used one (w phantom) for $350 in the middle of SIP...I saw your price and I would say I notice pricing on used LEGO being soft since Christmas. Not a surprise we are FINALLY seeing discounts at retailers again. please no...LEGO needs to stop re-making the same ships...too many other great ships to consider.2 points

Considering how they are being hoarded, for a "huge" return, you are probably looking well past this Q4. And if the massive demand by resellers induces lego to make more, it may not even reach the ceiling until a few years post retirement.1 point

preachin to the choir bro but lately I have been disappointed w/ the devaluing of GWPs from the last 3-4 GWP offerings. Seems like a lot of extra work for minimal gains and loss of opportunity costs...always a long hold possibility and at least they are small packages for storage.1 point

Using free stuff to get more free stuff? Are we reviving KMart threads from 2014? I think most on this site are not looking at the GWP's as freebies since they are acquired by paying RRP for sets that often end up being sold at a discount from other retailers. I.e. they are a credit to offset the RRP LEGO SAH tax. For example, who would pay RRP for a $99 non-exclusive Harry Potter set here with the intent to resell when it will probably be 20% off someplace else or 20% permasale on Amazon? But, if you can get $50 from the GWP's + VIP points and net them into $30 in profits after reselling, now that $99 set becomes a $69 set.1 point

Nah, well in the midst of civilization, but this Wally sadly doesn't have a tire shop. The regular hybrid battery takes the space a spare might be and the extra plugin battery takes any space that would make a reasonable place to put a spare. At least I made sure the Pacifica I bought has an inflatable spare instead of a friggin vacuum.1 point

Yeah. When I first received the warnings I had to look it up to see what I was in for. Apparently you used to be able to day trade with 1k in your portfolio and they changed it to 25k. I simply transferred 25k and kept on keeping on. Disclosure: I sniff lead paint, follow sheep and rocket to the moon while eating cold chef Boyardee.1 point

Well there goes any sense that it would be another Vader bust. I'll pass on the pre-order then and wait for a gwp.1 point

Sorry to hear. I have a refurbished RBK50 that has worked flawlessly for over a year now. I haven't upgraded the firmware in about 3-4 months but it's been very reliable and consistently delivers high speeds. Can you rollback/reset the firmware?1 point

To me, if the writers are unable or unwilling to address the logical consequences of collateral damages then they should not bring these up to begin with. They showed over several episodes that these townspeople lived in agony but their pains were conveniently ignored towards the end of ep9. Yes, and I have to admit I was too mesmerized by the awesome Vision vs Vision fight & conclusion and glossed over these details until later This 1000%1 point

See, that is the issue. Every criminal, murderer, etc., has had experiences in their life that somehow lead them to their actions - There is always a reason for the choices people make, but that doesn't excuse those choices, or remove the need for personal accountability.1 point
-
yeah...and by the looks of it they were essentially tortured...pretty bad when That 70s Show mom asked Wanda if they could "just die" instead. I kinda think collateral damage being addressed by the Slovokian Accords thing was way over done by Marvel. How can we enjoy watching titans duke it out if we need to worry about all the regular people...trying to impress real world sensibilities to clearly other worldly phenomenon is too difficult to balance...be like the comics...bring it up as it fits the narrative don't make it about the collateral damage.1 point

So moral of the story is, as long as you are grieving it is ok to kidnap a town full of people and force them to do things against their will One sticking point at of the episode was Wanda never acknowledged (let alone apologized to) the townsfolks whose lives were turned upside down and sideways thanks to her power. Sure she brought the town back to what it was, but time still moved forward and those people still lost 2-5 days while in the hex. The townfolks obviously still remembered what happened to them in those days. What about Vision's coworker who has a sick relative? Or the mom who was separated from her daughter? What about those kids who were stuck in their rooms for days?1 point

My 11 year old son bought 10 shares of Roblox. Paid $66.75 per share. He only had enough money to pay me 10% of the amount. Wait until I hit him with a margin call.1 point

Toys R Us have a sale on, one week to go. Discounts are inconsistent, and many are no better the regular KMart/BigW prices, but there are definitely gems in there including some things you will never find in department stores and rarely discounted anywhere. Highlights: Spring Lantern Festival - $127 (20% off, hard to find at RRP, and still in stock as I type this). Assembly Square - $299 (25% off) Corner Garage - $229 (23%) Architecture theme - all seem to be 30% off. Interestingly Bobba Fet and Iron Man helmets are at $69, Tie fighter pilot and Storm Trooper (SO) at $75 (KMart regular). Lots of good stuff sold out, but lots still going...1 point

This sums it up well. There really isn’t anything more to say on this topic at this point, that hasn’t already been said. It’s getting hot in here, with no new ground to cover, so I’m locking the thread for now.1 point
