  6. Built the latest version of the ice cream truck recently. I like the build, especially the giant ice cream bar on the roof, though I do wonder if the ice cream cost $1 or $100 based on the Green Tile 1 x 2 with Groove with 100 Dollar Bill Money Pattern. Logically it is the latter. It must be awesome ice cream for $100! One comment, avoid the temptation to put the Ice Cream Vendor minifigure on the Dark Bluish Gray Tile 1 x 4 like I did at first immediately behind the serving window so it falls down easily. It goes on the studs two rows behind that window. D’oh! Comparing it to the pizza van, the ice cream truck is much easier to put the minifigure inside the interior due to easier access with the rear window opening being on a side hinge with a wider opening vs. the up/down hinge system on the pizza van and more crowded interior/inherent space constraints. There is always taking off the roof option though I guess for minifigure placement. Final thought, they are both loaded with multiple play features and fit quite well within any city layout.

  8. Which one is the many and which one is the few again? How about the black/hispanic/asian female athletes who depend on athletic scholarships to go to college? Surely the competition to get those scholarships will be much fiercer with additional group of athletes added to the mix. Thus the emotional trauma etc

  10. I recently bought a used 1989 Batmobile (I am now free to sell the other two NISB-this is how I roll)...especially relevant because the seller included two other LEGO set boxes (in good condition): a current play scale MILF box to house the built part of the set and another (Orange x-wing) as a spacer. The Batmobile box had the unopened bags. Poor guy forked over $55 in postal fees...I advised to him to next time purchase shipping thru ebay which is usually highly discounted (especially FedEx Ground)....I didn't mention the obvious about keeping dimensions to a minimum. Anyway, i now have a box for the used MILF I will eventually get (I hear it's the best version) and a box for the used orange xwing which I recently bought. sidenote: I also have some near mint Modular set boxes...of which I am hunting for used sets (don't ask...but bet many here can guess how that happened); if anyone is selling, I have a near mint BB box that could really use a set to go with it ☺️

  20. In this case, i'd say you might be using the "head start" program where your inventory can be available for sale before it arrives? That causes this glitch sometimes. This also happens with pricing errors that haven't shown up on the pricing alert screen sometimes. I have one right now that is stuck stranded for a "listing error" and they said it is stuck at a return center and will remain stranded until it transfers to a normal warehouse that can fulfill orders. Your best bet is to edit the listing and change the price by a penny to see if it triggers something to fix it. I have never had luck getting that "refresh stranded reason" to really work.

  27. It’s very satisfying to find a missing box or instructions at a discount to normal price. IMO it’s kind of like getting the set again as the box is the outer packaging and/or the instructions usually prompt me to disassemble and rebuild the set itself

  28. Why did the Ecto get taken down so fast? Because it is a LEGO set. If there was another set that copied a LEGO set, I'll bet it would be taken down right away as well because LEGO would come after them. Why are the others up? Because no one has called them into question. BTW, some copywrite issues by big, bad LEGO were already fought here in the USA. Between LEGO and Best-Lock, which merged with COBI in 2006, re: minifigures. Lawsuit was in 2019. https://casetext.com/case/lego-v-best-lock-constr-toys-inc-2 Although this case was over minifigures (not specific likenesses, just the design itself and how it was similar to LEGO). I found this paragraph re: "copying" (see below) which I believe has been at the heart of this thread and which you (@Frank Brickowski) repeatedly ignore or dismiss. If the producer of the toy can prove without a doubt that they created an item without any source material, then there is no copywrite infringement. Most of the products people have been pointing out in this thread are clearly examples of actual products from real life or from other toy companies. The likenesses that everyone keeps bringing up are such that at first glance, you immediately can identify the object. The producer must argue that they just happened to have designed that exact likeness without seeing the source material that it looks like. The products that have been pointed out by multiple German non-LEGO companies have so many "similarities" (as mentioned below as an infringement) that it is impossible to have not seen the source material. That IS a copywrite infringement. At least it is in the USA. Perhaps German law is different. I don't know and quite frankly I no longer care. *drops mic* 1. Actual Copying To succeed on its infringement claim, Lego must show that Best-Lock actually copied Lego's minifigures. Boisson , 273 F.3d at 267. Occasionally, a case "presents the rare scenario where there is direct evidence of copying." Rogers v. Koons , 960 F.2d 301, 307 (2d Cir. 1992). More commonly, it is the conjunction of (1) access to the copyrighted work and (2) probative similarity that lead to the inference of actual copying. See Procter & Gamble Co. v. Colgate-Palmolive Co. , 199 F.3d 74, 77 (2d Cir. 1999) ; Muller v. Anderson , 501 F. App'x 81, 83 (2d Cir. 2012) ("A plaintiff may establish actual copying circumstantially by demonstrating (a) that the defendant had access to the copyrighted material and (b) that the two works exhibit ‘similarities probative of copying.’ ") (quoting Jorgensen v. Epic/Sony Records , 351 F.3d 46, 51 (2d Cir. 2003) ). That form of indirect proof requires "a showing of defendant's opportunity to come into contact with plaintiff's work and such similarities between the works which, under all the circumstances, make independent creation unlikely." 29. I haven't really ever posted to vote for a LEGO Ideas project, but I would like to see this one happen. Jaws is my favorite movie and I watch it fanatically. I have seen a few up for submission over time, but this one seems like it may have a chance to get put up for consideration. Personally I would love to see a bigger version with even more detail, but this is fun. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/390cf845-d64c-44fd-844b-b30fd42d5f12

  30. Considering the dollars involved, that's not gonna happen. The opposite might. And would be allowed under NBA rules. You don't have to be male to play in the NBA. Of course, that's extremely unlikely to happen (except as a marketing ploy). I don't know about the case in question but at the Olympic level, the transgender athletes have to adhere to strict testosterone testing. Google "Semenya". I imagine the same would apply to US college sports. Real life is more complicated than either side in these culture wars makes it out to be.

  35. I didn't buy a Lego set today, I bought an empty Lego box. Specifically, I bought the box for 10182 Café Corner. Saw it come up on eBay for ~£30 and pounced, since these are a) as rare as hen's teeth and b) if you can find one it'll be worth well over £100 (the only one on Bricklink is about £270 not including shipping). I do actually have a Café Corner which previously had no box, so that's nice. Also on the theme of rare bits for expensive modulars, I managed to bag a set of instructions for 10190 Market Street for ~£50. Again a very good find as the typical price would probably be 3 - 4 times that.

  36. Market is now moving to growth/vaule stocks, the so called established old economy stocks with low p/e ratios and increasing revenues and EBITA. Increasing bond yields is the cause and that has spooked the market. Look chart on the 10YR Treasury bond in the last week! Although in a wider context, its still lot lower than what it has been historically, hence, if you believe over-reaction, fill your boots and buy the dip.

  39. Someone posted on Nextdoor that they were moving and put a bunch of stuff in their driveway for garbage/donation. They said feel free to come by and take whatever. One of the pics had two skateboards in it, and I wanted to get them for my kids. Got there 25 mins after the post and as I pulled up, I saw some lady grabbing pretty much everything and putting it next to her car. All the stuff wouldn't even fit in her Jetta, but she was selfish about it. Anyways, I saw the skateboards in her car and was bummed out. I decided to look anyway and lucked out on a box of Lego that was sitting under another box that she hadn't seen yet. Woohoo! Take that selfish lady!

  40. I did hint towards a possible discount which I though would happen because it was sold out however the moment he checked it showed in stock for home delivery which of course he offered to do. I said I would just place the order myself and left. Soon as I left it was no longer available and only showing for pick up in that same store. I'm actually expecting another to arrive soon from elsewhere so not too big of a deal. Regarding opening boxes, a funny thing happened yesterday with a large set I had to return to Walmart. The Customer service person opened it. I've returned others before and never had anyone open them. I asked him what he was going to do with it and he said they will likely reseal and put it in clearance. Also to add since it packaging related: I bought a largish Harry Potter set yesterday from Walmart and when I left the store the box popped open and everything fell out in the parking lot.
