As the young one, this is my opinion. I was 5 when Bionicle came out so I grew up alongside both bricks and technic pieces. LEGO in the early 2000s was pretty abysmal, both the designs and themes. However, Bionicle was consistently great as this weird, experimental product. It is synonymous with the best parts of LEGO from my childhood. It's frustrating to be told "that doesn't represent LEGO!" when its something you hold very dear to your heart. Especially when it's a product that literally saved the company from bankruptcy. I would much rather see it as part of the 90th rather than the 100th, because that's a perfect place to celebrate it. I really don't mind other things winning, but it's annoying to see people say that they want more space/castle/train nostalgia when those sets do actually still get a small, consistent amount of recognition from Creator or Ideas. I would much rather see Adventurers/Rock Raiders/Aquazone than Castle/Space because those are unique themes that really do not have a modern equivalent. For castle, you can still build the same structures with the yellow bricks we see in every set. Something like Bionicle lives or dies on specialized parts; it can't really be recreated without new releases.5 points

MBS Cantina. They did a really good job at balancing build, display and play features much better than AoH and Cloud City. Only 3 stickers on the cantina itself (these really should have been printed) which I did not apply the rest are used on the vehicles. It is not as repetitive as it may look as they use different elements and/or build techniques for similar aspects instead of just doing X2 in the instructions. I give it 8 out of 10.3 points

I appreciate LEGO exploring a different genre (essentially 2-D wall art)...I realize their offerings so far are relatively "safe", but it's still an impressive jump outside their comfort zone. I feel that what their 2-D offerings have lacked is really a partial 3-D element...where the picture partially comes out of the frame...will show some interesting build techniques but more importantly combines what LEGO IS good at (3-D modeling) w/ the traditional 2-D wall art.2 points

To be fair, there is too much inflation in ideas. Lego just isnt going to make that many of them. I0k should no longer be the limit. Either raise it or better yet just make the top ten or twenty every period qualify regardless of vote totals.2 points

My parent divorced when I was young. And at one house, I had only Classic Space and the other, City. I was never into Pirates or Castle. After the Pirate Coaster came out, I’ve now developed a love for Pirates. And I have some vintage Castle stuff sitting in my “I’ve got to build this eventually” pile. Any of those would be good, but I agree with the “no Bionicle”. I’m pulling for Classic Space, tho. Yes Benny’s Spaceship was cool, but I’d like to see more than just that one set.2 points

Lowenstein, while I have it, wasn't actually made by Lego, but in partnership. So loosely counts. That being said, as long as anything but Bionicle wins, I am pleased.2 points

yes, if a lesser one comes out later this year or early 2022; that's the best case scenario for this set. The best Slave is the UCS 2 years into retirement and a re-issue of a smaller one will increase interest on the Anni Slave...AND assure another Slave will not be released for at least 2-3 years. W the Book of Boba come Christmas time this year...the Anni Slave has a solid 3 year window of post-EOL selling before any talk of a re-issue. Currently Amazon has this set listed at $220-$232 Ebay solds are at: $185-$200 (shipping always makes this highly variable) I see this set's floor at $250 by the holidays and ceiling of $350 (any more the UCS comes into play).2 points

Not true. I had a new train set missing an entire numbered bag of stuff and two additional pieces and the representative on the phone figured out how to order the entire set of pieces to ship to me. YMMV though.1 point

If they stay true to the Van Gogh painting submission then it will certainly be a very unique and attractive Lego art model, and I'm pretty sure I'll be buying it and hanging it on the wall in my house.1 point
-
No shortage of good builds here but unfortunately either it was something the LEGO company has already done (or going to do) or simply too many licences/properties needing their own approval outside of the program. Also a handful of huge housing projects across the board. Even the Vincent Van Gogh painting is close to the art theme LEGO is currently producing though I suppose that line has different standards (between parts usage & style) than recreating an outright renowned painting. In any case I always look forward to more LEGO art.1 point

Complements on a well articulated rebuttal. My vote goes to Castle. I also really wanted western and would have been happy with adventures. In fairness Bionicle kept my Son interested in LEGO a little longer. He also really liked Exo force. He really liked that "ZOIDS" cartoon (non LEGO) and the whole mech suit genre. If LEGO wanted to show an example of "look how far we've come in 90 years" from wooden duck to huge technic or a big complex Bionicle, it could get the point across better than another castle. But if they want to build a set that Best represents LEGO in general...Castle it is!1 point

Sorry I missed this. No I have been using these. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004Z5SM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm sure there are cheaper out their but it works for me. They are very easy to use and you use your regular printer. They stick on and easy to use a blow-dryer to get off.1 point

I agree that among 80101-80107, 80107 has the widest appeal for the reasons your cited. However, for many kids and adults who do celebrate Chinese New Year (CNY), I think that the most memorable CNY event is featured in 80101, the CNY Eve Dinner. I expect 80101 to continue to increase in price in the secondary market, assuming no re-issue. Another nice feature about these CNY sets is that stickers are replaced by printing directly onto the bricks.1 point

I'm shocked that only 1 out of 35 got picked. It makes sense to just say, "hey, we need to get caught up," I guess (if that's their reasoning), but there are a few I'm disappointed about. I'm bummed about the Avatar set, Brickwest Studios, the windmill, and the Gold Mine Roller Coaster. I'd guess the roller coaster, if submitted in there after the big roller coaster retires, would have had a better chance to pass. Unless LEGO has plans for another roller coaster of some sort after it retires. The rest are either too much licensing (after Big Bang, Friends, and Seinfeld, do we need more TV comedy based sets?), or too similar to regular LEGO sets. Or just overly complicated for consumer LEGO, imo.1 point

Though not as impressive as those Cantinas, keeping with the star wars theme. I pulled all these from a bulk lot. Have a buyer lined up. Its been fun building these while my wife and I have finished epI&II and on season 2 of clone wars on our goal of watching the entire star wars universe in chronological order as we wait for Book of Boba and Mando3. Would have been an epic find if the Gungan sub had all the minifigs. Also, no mando with the ATST, GO FIGURE! Still an awesome bulk find. -7131 Annakins Podracer -7141 Naboo Fighter -9499 Gungan Sub -75079 Shadow Troopers -75130 AT-DP Microfighter -75186 Darth Vader Transformation -75235 X-Wing Starfighter Trench Run -75254 AT-ST Raider1 point

I turn 47 in a couple months as well My first LEGOs was the 80’s space set 483. It was a gift my parents gave me at the hospital after having my tonsils removed when I was 7. I held onto that set for many years and it found its way into the mix of technic bricks during my teenage years. I brought the bricks with me when I moved out of college and traveled half way across the country. My wife was a school teacher for K-2 special Ed. She took the bricks to her classroom for the kids to play with. Most of them got lost during those years. But I still have a small container with assorted bricks and I can still identify those from the original 483. including a space man with very little face left, a computer terminal, and some moon buggy wheels with rusting metal axles. I’ve been tempted to seek out a 483 on eBay to buy and build again. My wife might have her tonsils taken out here after COVID. Maybe it’ll be my gift to myself for her tonsil removal1 point

Oddly, I feel as tho I should post as I turn 47 this year (double checks w/ calculator). I received my first set when I was in the 5th grade as a Christmas present from the aunt who gave presents (not money)...it was a medium size space set; I received a 2nd medium size set a year later (I think) but that was it....two sets to play with daily for years...until about 2 years ago when I "made up for lost time...with a vengeance"1 point

Pending - Apparently there was some "note" on my account. He wouldn't say other than to say that there isn't a problem with adding the gwp to my orders or with my payment. But he put me on a long hold, and then came back to say that the department he needs to have a meeting with (regarding me) isn't available (they are working from home), but he will call me back (or email me) after they have their meeting. Maybe I am the millionth lego.com customer, and I am going to win a prize, or maybe something less shall we say beneficial is at hand.1 point

Good on Lego for putting Castle back in the mix. Splitting the Castle and Space votes was not smart, but at least Classic Space came through. Bionicle is the exact reason that Lego is not going to be transparent with this second vote - at least not initially. There is no way that they allow their 90th Anniversary Commemorative Lego set to not look like a Lego set! I guarantee that there will be more votes against Bionicle than for it, and even if the three reasonable choices (Space, Castle, Pirates) somehow split the votes just right, and allow Bionicle to have the most votes, we will not see a Bionicle set sporting this 90th Anniversary badge of honor. Count on it. On the other hand, if Space, Castle or Pirates wins the vote, then I could see the second vote suddenly becoming transparent. FWIW, I voted for Classic Space. I grew up on Blacktron and still love those sets. In the comment section of my vote, I asked for a 4000+ piece set, with a nicely detailed base, a large ship, at least one smaller ground vehicle, and lots of spaceman/woman minifigs - hopefully in different colors, and maybe including a brand new color. In my mind, it's a combination of 6987, 6954 and steroids!1 point

I agree, "anniversary xx" doesn't mean anything for set value. The set itself determines the value. If the rumor holds true that there is another Slave 1 coming out this year (smaller version like the 2021 Tie, X-Wing, and Shuttle) I think this set will do even better.1 point

Also with ebay, I have always found that oversights almost always go against you. If there is a fee/charge that should take place against you, that will process nearly 100% of the time, but if there is an exception (in your favor), somehow that will often tend to slip through the cracks (unless you call them on it).1 point
