Yes, it seems that the problem here is not BrickSet providing erroneous info but rather people using it not knowing how to properly read and interpret what the site says. It's like a carpenter not knowing how a screwdriver works and then complaining that the screwdriver makes a lousy tool for scraping paint.5 points

The algorithm at Brickset just checks for availability of a set at lego.com. It says nothing about retirement. That date was the last date Brickset showed it available to purchase.5 points

Hey guys I'm just trying to be helpful. Laugh and joke all you want. I'm a former employee and I have a reliable source at the company so take the info or leave it. I could care less. There is a website on the company's internal server that lists all retired sets in any given year. When I worked there (in my pre-reseller days), I used to print the list out for myself and it helped me plan out which sets to buy first for my personal collection when money was tight. But everyone keep buying up all the Treehouses you want, sheesh.4 points

Straight from LEGO - Ideas Treehouse and Flintstones are NOT retiring. Vestas Windmill and Volkswagen T1 Camper are "Retired", however some remaining backstock may become available for a brief time early in 2021. But they are definitely not producing anymore.4 points

You just photographed what my hell looks like. How do you people survive living in that?4 points

I'd be amazed if they kept flinstones around versus Steamboat willie. If either come back, it will be my final time investing in an idea's set.3 points

what are the odds that the piece we are just missing on the UCS MILF happens to be part of the advent calendar Day 17? I got the set used back in June and my boy and I started off strong but had gone months with no progress...(I learned my lesson, NEVER EVER EVER buy a set that big used..we spend 90% of the time just finding the piece)...anyway to the seller's credit only missing a couple of relatively common pieces so far. ANYWAY, wife gave an ultimatum...By New Years or it all gets packed up (You can imagine what the incomplete MILF and a sea of sorted parts look like in the middle of a living room...my wife is a saint)...ANYHOO yesterday we discovered a missing piece...and I went thru all out general bins to no avail..and then this am we do our Advent tradition...thank-you Day 17 Harry Potter grand piano...you Ain't ever getting built...but how sweet it is!3 points

Come on now, with all those temporally impossible deals and sets you seem to find, we all know what you really drive...3 points

There is always a corner set available. So far the sets have released in this order: Corner, Straight, Straight, Corner, Straight, Straight, Corner, Straight, Straight, Corner, Straight, Straight, Corner, Straight, Straight So a corner building next year. Garage is toast. They're overdue for a double retirement. But AS sells too well to kill it off... so Garage will likely go alone. The buy in on it isn't great, but it will have as long of a life as Brick Bank/Downtown Diner has. Which were only on the shelves ~3 months longer than the Town Hall.3 points

Finished a 40289 last night. Nice little Harry Potter site. Already lost the light purple hat and had to use one from the 1960s Batcave set. D’oh. That hat is only in 3 sets.2 points

Last City Hospital for $192 shipped. Buy-in average on these was ~$60. Keeping one for potential town rebuild.2 points

Nice ride but sorry my OCD gets me every time I see this and I am sure you have a list but a great bang for the buck mod is to get a locking set of these in black: https://www.gorilla-auto.com/lug-nuts-page-032 points

I still love my '02 Silverado as much as the day I bought it new. 300k miles and still going strong. It's been very nice not having a car payment since 2007.2 points

Most of the time Brickset just copies LEGO Shop availability status & sets toos/oos date as an end of availability date in their databank.2 points
-
Just so you know this is not uncommon for this set. I ordered 3 from target once and 2 arrived with popped seals. Probably something to do with the thin box dimension to weight.2 points

So they ship it back USPS Priority through Detroit?1 point

If only US retailers would follow suit with the rest of the world and build sales tax into the price of the products then they wouldn't have this issue.1 point

Shoot, I think a screwdriver works just fine scraping paint. Just takes me a little longer.1 point

I've still got a minty one. Not sure why, but I hate to sell it. It's up there with the Ferris Wheel as one of my favorite sets of all time.1 point

Oh wow. I know what you mean. The same three folks work the front desk at my post office (which only has room for 3 people to stand in line with social distancing). All three are really pleasant. There’s one that also interacts with my 12 year old daughter when she does the drop off for me and then asks me about her when I do drop offs. I’d be pretty punched too.1 point

it is not always just newer sets, some might be high demand sets, others have no clear reason. just keep trying. i was selling a newer set last year, this year i got blocked in November. as far the second part to your question, yeah Amaon frowns on that practice.1 point
-
most of the time yes, especially newer sets. in some rare instances , no selling that set for You !1 point

I drive a Nissan Pathfinder. It’s does what it need to, but I’ve not been *happy* with it since I bought it. It’s all plastic, and those plastic pieces break all the time. Earlier this year, my wife and I got our dream car - a Volkswagen Beetle Diesel Convertible. We used to both drive Beetles years ago, before kids. But she didn’t have a convertible and I didn’t have a diesel. So best of both.1 point

The only Hidden Side set I bought was the Shrimp Boat, because (with a little modification) it fits perfectly with Old Fishing Store (and it has fishermen!).1 point

It's kind of shame that some of these sets get overlooked as they are good sets and offer more bang for the buck than the regurgitated Star Wars sets that get pumped out every year.1 point
