  1. Ok, it is the holiday lull... unless you chose to ship FBM this year! So, a diversion is in order. I have been planning on building a city for a while, and it is nearly time. To be honest, I resell lego just to fund my lego city account. Our basement is almost done, (I will start building new lego tables in January) and I have an area, not as large as I would like, but much bigger than nothing! So I am building a tiered city, using Eureka Springs, Arkansas as my inspiration It. It is built into the side of an Ozark Mountain, and it very "tiered". I would love to see all of your layouts for inspiration, so post them below! I will try to update my progress on here as I go. Here is a photo of our build area, that will move to be next to the new city. (side note: if anyone has a good strategy to get an 8 year old master builder to clean up after himself... I would love to hear it!)

  2. My goal is to build my city into a coffee table. I wanted something that I could drop modulars into as well as design my own. I also needed a train because what is a Lego city without a train. I'm currently working to modify the Hogwarts express to fit under my arch way. Soon I'll start adding lighting. I am now considering expanding the city and going away from the coffee table idea. I also sell Lego to fund the habit.

  3. Another year... another kid. Same train. Mrs. Brickvoyeur is building the gingerbread house, while I get to finish up the Bakery and Post Office. Doubtful the Fire Station or Market make an appearance this year. The Cottage will eventually find its way to me for under $100 like all the other old Winter Village sets have.

  7. Without the success of The Clone Wars and Rebels we would have never seen the Mandalorian. Disney would have balked at the expense if the prior shows hadn't shown how hungry SW fans are for good, new content. We sure as hell aren't getting it at the theaters. Dave Filoni needs to be lifted up as a SW demigod, on the same level as a young George Lucas with Jon Favreau just one step down.

  12. Built the corner garage on Monday/Tuesday and the Bookshop on Wednesday/Thursday. I like both builds and really notice the improved techniques in the modular line, especially for similar areas to other modulars, or when comparing to city mini builds. As blasphemous as this is: Green Grocer needs an update. The Garage feature is excellent (at least it's my son's favourite besides the fire truck) and is well designed. The rolling door is not for little hands though and the greebling was VERY annoying. I hope Lego figures out a way to take a similar set and make it a reverse corner in the future. I have 5 corner buildings which is enough. The Bookshop was a very strong build and I love the colours, but would like to see a little more work on the walls of the shop itself. The trees suck (and always have) and the corner garage tree looks stupid. The Bookshop is the nicer finished product but suffers like Pet Shop and Detective's Office with a half building each. A full floor bookstore would have been really cool. I am very thankful that they are full size buildings unlike the DO and BB. The best feature of both is that they don't have the stupid Diner staircase. Parisian Restaurant and Green Grocer still rank 1 and 1A for me. Bonus photo of the buildings around the tree this year with both Holiday trains (wall isn't done, but whatever). I hope to light them back up next year if my kid stops touches them .

  13. Stone Wars recently launched a monthly "best of" list of what's newly available or retiring from LEGO's Bricks and Pieces. It's a pretty cool feature that some of you who run Bricklink stores may find useful. September 2020 October 2020 November 2020 December 2020

  15. It's a funny thing. A New Hope came out when I was 17. I was all for the Rebels. But, in the last few years, I've learned to look at things from the Empire's (and later "bad guys") point of view. It's true, most people just want order. I still love Ahsoka but Darth Maul and Thrawn have just about become my second favorite characters and I find myself watching SW products with an air of neutrality now, not blindly rooting for the Rebels. At 60, I am in danger of turning to the Dark Side. Color my lightsaber white (or maybe pink. White with a tinge of red.)

  16. I would watch the hell out of a Star Wars show where the Empire is the protagonist. Did you notice the swell of music when they pulled in, as the TIEs came raining down, and the stormies were saving the day? It was a very heroic sounding piece.

  17. First episode that I thought was well balanced. Mando actually did a lot of things and it did not feel like he was guest staring in his own show. Everybody got to kill / destroy something, even the Stormtroopers The guy who wrote and directed this episode (Rick Famuyiwa) should write and direct every other episodes. Per his imdb, he also wrote and directed the prisoner episode which was also one of the best from season 1.

  21. Lol, my kid just did this at Target last week. Cashier asked if they were gifts and my little girl (7) piped right up before I could say anything, "no, my dad sells Lego". The cashier gave me the stink eye haha. Gonna have to have a talk with her before our next shopping trip. I honestly have no problem telling a cashier that it is none of her business what I do with my items. Her job is to check me out, not screen for use. I miss the days when people minded their own business. Yes, I am fun at parties.

They don't know if they want you to leave or stay, such a toxic relationship . Now if they they pull out a whip it would just be like my ex is back .

  27. I had the honor of speaking to my local area Fedex Manager today. He pulled up with an old van they bought from the dealership to help deliver orders. He said they anticipated a high volume of shipments but nothing near the volume they are shipping so they are trying to deliver packages anyway they can. He said they hired 12 people to deliver orders out of their personal vehicles. It was definitely not enough. The UPS guys have been going home early every night. Both guys I spoke too said they are normally busier at non peak times then he is now. They hired 60 temporary workers. Additionally, UPS appears to have done a good job drawing a line on business's who misreported the volume they were going to do during the holidays. There were some articles floating around about UPS not delivering Nike or Macy's orders. From my understanding they are supposed to report a semi accurate count of how many pickups and deliveries they expect and some business vastly under reported their needs, UPS essentially told them too bad.

  30. I’m not disagreeing with you and that’s the word on the street... but... - they have not given GWP sets exclusively with Modulars in the past - seeing as this was an ideas contest i would think it would be more obtainable than only with this specific pricey modular - this car really doesn’t have anything to do with the police modular... a police car would make more sense I’m putting my money on it being a February GWP since the odds are that the HP book of monsters will likely be a January GWP to tie in with the other 4 books they are launching in January... i’m guessing the ideas car will be free with $120-150 spend on anything in Feb (maybe starting late Jan after they end the HP GWP i may be 100% wrong... we will find out on Dec.21 in the afternoon when they release the January store calendar

  31. How long until the trooper with the tray becomes a meme? Isn't it amazing how many new ships/vehicles/locations we have seen in 1.5 seasons of the Mandalorian verses 6 years of planning for the sequel trilogy of SW movies? BTW, previous episode had forerunners to First Order drop ships. I had to watch it a second time to verify they were different. Very cool. I have Yogurt going through my head from Spaceballs - Merchandising... merchandising.... merchandising... Spaceballs the flamethrower.

  34. My wife told a Target cashier that once. She got scolded for it when we got out of the store. My wife looks at the sets on my shelves and asks which one she's giving me for Christmas. That's also the excuse I give when all the boxes arrive in the mail after black Friday - "I don't know which set you'll be giving me for Christmas, so I had to buy at least one of each before they go OOS."

  35. My approach is camouflage..the boy has no idea which set is his present when 100+ sets come in I actually don't know either until maybe the night before Christmas...when I start looking at the shelves

  41. The easiest way is to set up as an LLC and elect to be taxed as an S-Corp. This sets the LLC up to file its own taxes and be the taxing entity identified to Amazon during the tax interview. I haven't gone down that road yet because I didn't want to fool with things right before Q4, but plan to do so after the first of the year.

  44. what's going on is lego doesn't want to give out double vip and promos on these dinosaurs and is supplying them to target walmart and amazon who all have these in stock now. they have made enough to meet demand. they don't want to give out double vip and promos and then pay extra to ship these dinosaurs all over the country when UPS and fedex are jacking the prices up for holiday surge demand. pretty dang smart business decision actually.
