SO to answer the question - Yes you can sell $10,000 in Lego from a garage in a weekend 🙂 The final total is $10,438 in sales for a profit of $4496.91 on 190 Lego sets sold. I will post a list of sets and prices at some point but I wanted to update the thread. Yes- I am shocked- I have gotten close to 5,000 before and been happy. I am in utter shock - I am going to have dinner.14 points

I have signs that say no negotiation and I stick with that . When new people comes up I explain pricing to them so I take the mystery of it out. I tell them I sell this for X on ebay and have sold two in the last two months (truth) I indicate that I reduce my garage sale priced to reflect a cost savings form mot paying ebay, pal Pal and shipping fees. I also tell them it is not a perfect science but in general I try. I don't encourage them to check ebay but in my Craigslist as I see them checking - GO ahead and check im not afraid of them checking - they are usually presently surprised and see I have told them the truth. Someone buys four or five sets I do not budge. After doing this a few years i have my regulars who come shopping. One is the little old lady on her walker who spent $700 just this year. She likes suggestions so I steered her to one of my low buy-in good appreciation set and told her I was taking it to half price for her. She is a neighbor from three doors down and she has bought form me for years. A deal is worth it for me to take care of the neighbors. But in general I just say no and tell them if I go lower I would just take it to ebay. There are tricks: 1. I make it look like a store 2, I make it an event that people talk about 3.) I prove to them they are already getting a discount with my price. 4. ) I have items from $4 - $400 5. ) My Lego are not mixed in with "Garage Sale" items 6.) I do not sell used Lego 7.) Prices are clearly marked - Sticky note with price and set number. (Critical for tracking and not getting confused onm the cost of a set.) 8.) You may have multiples but only put out 1. Let them believe it could be your last one. You can always pull the duplicate out once an item is sold. I have a spreadsheet and have been tracking buy-ins for years but I priced based on eBay. If I lose a little money on a set I sell it for a loss. What I paid for it is not important. It is what I can sell it for that is important. But if I am losing money and have to ship it and pay fees then I lose a lot more. In the garage Sale it is about volume sales 61 of my sales is under $28. THese are sets that maybe hard to sell for a profit on ebay but for me they generated $500 in profit. Sure - you get your whales but this chump stuff is a solid foundation and a way to get rid of low hanging fruit. When you sell 100 plus sets in an event accept the few losses and consider a way to pare out underperformers.9 points

Some additional thoughts (I know at this point it is the wrong thread but I am about to have someone come buy and purchase the6860 Bat Cave SO i can say I sold that.) 1.) DO not have a discount table Yes Chima sucks but if you give a discount the folks who are looking and don't want to spend cash may go that and will shy away from a better purchase. IF you discount Chima then why won't you discount other stuff. 2.) Have a damaged box, indicate it is damaged and tell them the price is lower due to damage. That way they still get the "bargain" But there is a fundamental reason for the discount. Don't damage boxes to do this but if you have badly beaten, stolen UPC boxes, etc. a great way to get those sets gone. 3.) Know where the banks are - I There are six surrounding my neighborhood. I take cash . I will not take pay pal (I do not want those extra transaction's. 4.) Idiots will still show up - deal with them nicely. Once they research they are likely to come back tomorrow with a new mindset. They just don't get it right away. 5.) you are running a retail store. The Customer is not always right but you want to be helpful without being overly pushy. Even when they are being crazy still be nice. And Kids are going to pick-up sets and move them - Deal with it. 6.) IF someone is shopping and ask about paying tell them cash and you are happy to put their sets on hold for an hour while they go to the bank. All of sudden 2 sets become three. Don't take a deposit but give them a time frame. "HAppy to hold for you until 2:00 p.m." The reason is people don't always come back and then you are in a weird spot if you have some of their case. 7.) DOn't judge what you will sell in the future from what you sold in the past- One year it was friends and the next year it is DC. Next up City and after that Star Wars. Have a large inventory and roll with it. One year two kids dropped $400 on Chima and thought it was the greatest thing ever. And yes - the guy is here now buying a 6860 for $61. I have had three of them for years and no one has bought them and this year I have sold all three. (Never understood why this set did not take off but hey - not my problem anymore.) Buy in was 44.52 (small potatoes by itself but do this 100 times and 🙂 )4 points

Perhaps we need a sticky at the top of the thread explaining that this thread is for links to items for purchase, and that there are other threads for discussion such as:Still awaiting your order from a previous deal? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/topic/8838-my-order-status/ Were you able to purchase an item from a posted deal? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/topic/402-what-lego-set-did-you-buy-today/ Are you skeptical about a deal and feel like hearing yourself talk about how it's a poor investment? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/topic/4494-what-lego-set-did-you-not-buy-today/ Wondering if a posted deal is a good purchase? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/topic/15615-what-lego-to-buy-or-sell-general-set-advice-questions-comparisons/ Curious if a posted deal is on the verge of retirement? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/topic/4008-retiring-soon-open-speculation/ Is the investing bubble approaching its tipping point? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/topic/3911-the-speculative-bubble-why-it-could-and-why-it-wont/ Random jabber completely unrelated to a deal? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/forum/89-really-non-lego-stuff/ How about a thread bitching about people posting off-topic while their rant post is actually off-topic as well?3 points

Any half decent company knows that having a secondary market means you’re doing something right with your brand. The strategy of course is to find that balance of profitable sales and allowing a secondary market to indirectly boost your brand value. LEGO trying to mess with secondary market will be shooting themselves in the foot. So those rumors are either some schmuck messing with people trying to induce a sell off, or LEGO is really really stupid. You just have to ask which is more likely.2 points

so just see this on a forum. (talking about Diner) - Don't worry, it's not retiring this year, it's marked for December 2021, but is likely to be extended beyond that due to COVID-19. (talking about bell boeing) - re release (pushed back from December due to COVID-19). Lego are releasing it then with the gearing modification and will remove the Boeing logo from the box, keeping just Bell. Lego have had to lay off 25% of their design team and 15% of senior factory staff which limits capacity for new designs and production. Re-releasing popular retired sets is the new strategy for the next 3-4 years while the World recovers from COVID-19. As far as I'm aware, the following themes are have some immunity from imminent re-release: City Friends Ninjago (except 70618 Destiny's Bounty which resumes production in July 2021) Star Wars (except UCS R2-D2 in new black AFOL "Master Builder Series" box) Architecture (except Buckingham Palace to complement London Skyline and Trafalgar Square) Speed Champions twin packs (the retired 6-stud cars will now become 8-stud starting next Easter, Bugatti being the first) Harry Potter (all sets due to retire this year have been extended for another year, 2 years for Hogwarts Express) This week marks the 2,000,000th 10220 VW T1 Camper left the production line, apparently over 1,500,000 are in the hands of buyers who bought multiples, go figure. Even though it's 3 years behind schedule, the previously unknown "Lego Again" project will be live around Xmas 2021. This promises to supply any retired set that Lego has produced in the past, put the pieces in a plain box and have printed artwork on one side only to make production easier. There will be a 4-6 week wait for the requested set and the RRP will be today's equivalent. The top 10 sellers in this project will then be re-released in their former glory with the same artwork as before. The re-release of the Saturn V has shocked a lot of people (even me!), but it's only the start of what is to come. Senior Lego management state that over 75% of popular sets end up in the hands of greedy resellers, leaving Joe Public without the set they want, unless they pay over the odds for one on eBay - this is why Lego have finally decided to eliminate the reseller market as it's more of a threat to their brand than Chinese knock-offs. Lego have now asked John Lewis to reduce their maximum order limit on popular sets from 5 to 2. Smyths, Amazon and The Hut Group will also be amending their limits. The final nail in the resellers' coffin will be eBay introducing "gating" (Amazon has it) which means that you have to be an authorised Lego retailer before you can sell multiples of the same set as new, even if days or weeks apart. It's all part of the plan to expand there retailer network and wipe out resellers. think the blokes nuts myself, he lost me at 2 million VW's...2 points

The sky is falling! Most Lego purchasers have 0 idea of what sets Lego is reproducing/re-releasing. The hardcore collectors - who keep sets sealed - will always desire the “1st run”. Look at the “first run” Taj Mahal. New release had very little effect on value. If you can’t deal with the unknown and potential re-releasing, get out and find another brand to resell. Any “popular” sets will always sell well at Christmas, whether or not they are retiring.1 point

Thanks for sharing. In regards to "LEGO again" it sounds like complete poppycock. As someone else pointed out so many retired sets consist of parts that are no longer in production. Those that are familar with factory work may agree that the expense to revive such parts would be ridiculious. Not to mention the cost of reproducing minifigures from retired sets. I of course wouldn't mind the opportunity to add a Clone Wars Gunship to my collection but "LEGO again" seems highly unlikely1 point

The 21103 Delorean is being re-released around next Easter as 92162, the RRP will go up from £34.99 to £42.99 due to licencing costs. There is in fact a plan to re-release most IDEAS sets over the next 18 months. Set number 92166 is already reserved for WALL-E, but RPP will remain the same due to ongoing Disney licence. The only ones I know of that will NOT be re-released for a least 18 months are Hayabusa, Minecraft The Forest, Exo Suit, Caterham Seven, Doctor Who, Maze and Research Institute. I can also confirm that two modular buildings are being re-released around Easter. These are the Green Grocer and Cafe Corner. They will be identical from the outside, but will contain new elements and a more detailed interior. RRP for both will be £149.99. The Tower Bridge also returns in a black 18+ box in an extended version with the extra anchor towers for £319.99. 10225 Star Wars R2-D2 is also coming back next Summer in a new Disney box and will have a higher RRP of £169.99, in line with other "UCS" sets. How do I know this? Please don't ask as I can't tell you for obvious reasons. he also says this. personally i think he's a troll , who thinks he works for lego.1 point

I went rage shopping today because someone cleaned out a store in my normal area (while I was on my way to it) yesterday, so I went a little out of my normal range today, but it was worth it. About 2.5k worth of stuff marked down 75-80% off. Granted, half of that was TLM2 stuff, but even that I'll take at 75-80% off. The best part? Not one of the sets has a damn clearance sticker on it. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. :zen:1 point

According to Brickfanatics, Lego has confirmed the re-release with Lego Ambassadors: https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-ideas-saturn-v-and-ship-in-bottle-reissues-officially-confirmed/ Don't like or "thank" this comment. Only sad faces 😭😢 And one more for Tabby, who has pallets of rockets 😿1 point

I think it's rather premature to sell it at such low prices. The Ideas 21309 was greatly underpriced by LEGO! I am absolutely convinced LEGO will readjust the price of the re-release version accordingly to match both the brick-count (1969 bricks, would normally hover closer to €190 at the average 10 cent per brick) and the popularity of the set. Even at a very meagre 7 cents per brick it would be already close to €140. I'd expect the re-released Saturn V to be around the €150 mark, so if you'd bought the Ideas set well below RRP back then, you'll be fine.1 point

I dont get why this would e funny in any way? Yesterday i already saw the prices on Ebay Germnay drop from 180 to 130 in some cases.1 point

I remember Tabbyboy stating he had gone REALLY deep on Saturn V. Like a warehouse packed full of them. But after that he's gone quiet in here. Or at least on that account. Val-E has gone quiet and not shown much sign of life since the Covid epidemic hit Europe. I hope he's okay. Also noticed the asking price on Bricklink for 21309 has dropped considerably, and on other places the number of sellers increased dramatically with lowered prices as well. A lot of sellers dropping ship and trying to get rid of dead stock. Like rats trying to escape a sinking ship. 🤣1 point

That is awesome. Sucks some people think something cool has to be done by ill gotten methods but that is their their problem. Best moment of the day was when a little boy was so excited he just ran up and gave the Lego guy a hug. His mom promised him a Lego set after his hair cut and he was so beside himself and the smile was huge. One of the reasons that I love doing the garage sale. Seeing actual kids get the set and the joy it brings them. I just don't see that on eBay. I assured her the hug was cool, his mom was shocked when he did it but hey unbridled happiness is an awesome thing. We all have to remember what toys are for.1 point

I thought the sky was falling when the DS got the extra cheese slope, then I was certain it was falling when they re-released the winter village toy store, then taj Mahal, then that Technic semi truck (I'm sure I'm missing some more). The moral is, it's happened before and we're still here moaning about it because the sky never really falls. Stick around long enough and you'll see that this is just part of the game.1 point
-
Not the point - The point is running a toy store for a couple of days. Meeting people, talking Lego . Seeing a kid get a new set and smile. having a customer talk to me about Lego and learning what investing is like - I do this for the fun of it and to make a few dollars1 point

Maybe it's because potential buyers literally have no money left to spend because of all the other expensive stuff LEGO has released earlier this year. I mean even if you're willing to buy about everything they release, there is a point when this is just not possible anymore. Maybe someone could make a caculation what hardcore collectors already "had" to pay this year for the whole set of new (AFOL-oriented) releases.1 point

So I ordered the Diagon Alley set right at midnight the first time it went up for sale. But apparently it went available on the website a few minutes before midnight. And that is when I ordered mine. Because of this the Hagrid promo gift was not included. Apparently the GWP didn't kick in until exactly midnight. So I sent Lego an email to ask if they could include the GWP with my order. I wanted to share their response because I thought it was clever. Response below: Dear LEGO® fan, Thanks for your recent order! An invisibility spell was cast on the Hagrid™ and Buckbeak™ Brickheadz set that should’ve been included with your purchase. We’ve used a charm to counter the spell and make sure the set is on its way to you! You’ll receive another email once Hagrid and Buckbeak leave our warehouse. They’ll arrive separately from the rest of your order. Happy Building! LEGO Customer Service1 point
