My 5 year old son absolutely loves Mario related things and has played a lot of the newer Mario content that is out on the Nintendo Switch (Mario Kart, Super Mario Bro’s Deluxe). We saw the $60 Mario Starter Course set at Walmart the other day and I bought it along with some of the $5 character packs. We put it together today and he absolutely loves it! He seems more interested in making Mario interact with the other characters vs setting up a course for Mario to run through in a certain amount of time. Perhaps older kids would want to set up courses and try to collect as many coins as they can in the timeframe they have to finish the course... but I’ll admit, I even had fun using the Mario character to interact with all of the various enemies and landscapes. I foresee myself purchasing additional Mario courses and expansion sets. My son is more interested in playing with these vs watching TV (we’ll see how long that lasts, lol), so I’m all for him getting into this stuff. I think there’s great potential for this particular line too. I could totally see them making a future Luigi character that is similar to Mario. Perhaps even have the ability to compete against one another with Mario and Luigi to see who can get the most coins, or knock out the most enemies within a specific time. Future sets could include a Mario castle or other landmarks from the older games. The prices for the sets can be on the expensive side, but when you look at other themes aimed toward kids (Minecraft), it’s not that much out of line. I think there’ll be demand for these come Christmas, and it will be interesting to see if LEGO can keep up with it.3 points

Not sure these are such great deals. I love my local pick-a-brick, 'cause I can load up on hard to find and rare pieces. My fear with this deal is that the $25-$35 / lb bag will instead be filled with a bunch of 2-cent parts.2 points

Thanks. It's just ridiculous. This cost me $42 to ship with insurance. It's one thing to have delays, but zero tracking updates for nearly 8 days is nuts.2 points

Just a heads up, larger boxes like your Saturn V have been taking nearly a week to move within my state from the local PO to the regional PO, even with Priority Shipping. (Coronavirus delays). The frustrating part is, USPS tracking gives a 3-day delivery estimate and doesn't adjust it until it is finally scanned. However, it may not get scanned until it finally reaches the destination PO or when it is finally delivered. If it has only been a week, I would wait a little longer. Most of my large box Priority shipments took 10 days to arrive. I did the same thing as you the first time it happened to me back in April. As I said, even with priority shipping, the package still took 10 days to arrive. After that one, I forewarned each person of the expected delays and to ignore the tracking updates until it had been scanned by the regional PO.2 points

A full on SIP crackdown will not help improve sales at this point IMO, it will only scare people into saving whatever money they have. Money will run out, even for those lucky enough to work from home. Moderation is the key. Here in NJ, we are limiting the spread after a horrendous start. Many have suffered both physically and financially, but at least there is some positive signs of improving business and reduced virus spread.1 point

Well, Q2 is in the past (ended June 30)... while everyone was buying LEGO like there was no tomorrow.1 point

You are 2 days from August. Before you know it, it will be the holidays. Covid could take another shot at supply chains, which are still having a hard time replenishing even basic building materials across the board. Major retailers are closed on Thanksgiving. You haven't seen nothing yet.1 point

becareful. sub 10 feedback fraudsters going around. had one send insults and personal attacks demanding justice for a package that was clearly destroyed by the post, and another now claiming box open and missing many bags demanding a refund. (both items over 350$) unluckily for both of these people I have images of pre packaged status. ALWAYS INSURE ANYTHING OVER 100$ my friends.1 point

Holy God . . . GDP down nearly 33%! I wonder if this means the selling trend will continue? https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/07/30/896714437/3-months-of-hell-u-s-economys-worst-quarter-ever1 point

They put the London skyline up for $31.99, had a decent deal on a couple of small Technic sets, put up a couple of the Christmas Baubles, and a handful of other minor deals. Nothing great....I was just hoping to score another handful of London's....1 point

Not too worry about that TBH. The major retailers will be / is lobbying the government to have all of these political stuffs cleared up before the all important $$$$, I mean holiday seasons1 point

I think the bottle-neck going into the holidays will be shipping. There's a good chance shipping may freeze to a stand-still and it will be all about local facemask to facemask sales1 point

You are correct that cases are picking back up in a big way, especially in the U.S. However, our best estimates from the 1918 Spanish Flu are that 30% of the world got infected. It will be nowhere near 90%. Unfortunately, we are only at 1% of the world so far this year. And also, like 1918, I fear and expect that this will be a 2-year process with more than one "wave." Nostalgia will kick in in October and November and people will be eager to buy a nice Christmas gift. I expect Lego prices to be insane.1 point

I'm in the minority. I never got an NES but I did have a SNES, which I loved playing. I also played Super Mario Bros in the arcade religiously, but this set does nothing for me. I feel like the novelty of the scrolling scenes will wear off pretty quick. On the other hand, if they come out with more games/scenes, this set will do well, being the first.1 point

Reading on the other thread, I'll post here my .02c Someone mentioned taxes and me thinks that's part of the reason North Americans have so much purchasing power. I make around 42k pa but only take home around 29k. And that's a pretty good amount of money for my small European country. Another factor is that mostly everyone in here lives in apartments where they lack space to store lots of sets. Almost an anecdote, but I have a friend who lived and worked in England, Germany and in the US. To this day his biggest regret was to leave the land across the pond, where he said he made so much money that he didn't have time to pirate video games, he just bought them whenever he wanted. This was a shocker to me, as 20 years ago normal middle-class teenagers here would only buy one video game per year, usually at around Christmas. 20 years later and the most expensive LEGO sets cost more than what minimum wage workers bring home every month, so the gap is still there. Let's just imagine what South Americans and Africans have to save in order to buy a 600 dollar set. If on the other hand you look at Germany and UK, there's a lot more purchasing power than my small country, but still doesn't even come closer to the US, where sets are cheaper when you convert USD to EUR: a 100$ set is also usually 100 Euro, but 100 bucks are 89 EUR, thus making the difference even larger. So all in all, yes, low taxes and cheap credit paired with A LOT of land space make it the dream land for a LEGO reseller.1 point

I'm not sure that folks who are taking unemployment are the ones dropping big bucks on Lego sets. It's far more likely to be parents who are both employed and working from home, and need something to keep their kids occupied during the day. A lot of folks I know say that they've been buying Lego to help pass the time either for themselves or their kids...a few have even marveled at how expensive some sets have gotten.1 point

I don’t know about any where else, but they have this competition at LLFL. It’s not a ride, it’s a competition of great humiliation It’s tough. You have to hand pump the fire truck across the way. Like the old railroad carts. It’s a pain for one dad to haul 2-3 kids. And then when they lose because their aim for putting out fires is as bad as their aim at the toilet, you get the pump of shame all the way back as your biceps cramp up. Memories...1 point
