So I grabbed the Green Grocer when it popped up as the seller had 100% feedback. I then started to research and it looked legit, but I was still skeptical. Then the Cafe Corner and Market Street appeared so I grabbed them as well. The seller's listing practices were consistent with older listings, and feedback from sales within the week, so I figured no active seller wouldn't notice if their account was compromised in a timely manner. But still I was skeptical. Things sat for two days, then I randomly received a combined shipping refund from the seller yesterday and feedback. They just arrived. I scanned all the bags and all the pieces say "LEGO". Still surprised they showed up. They will sit in a 3 day quarantine in the garage then they will be inventoried and flipped.10 points

This is definitely different than clearance stickers. Leaving them on, in my opinion, adds to the nostalgia of the sets.3 points

My experience with them is that they are very slow and sometimes just ignore you. I'm currently trying to get a replacement for a damaged item, and they wanted me to find shipping options and prices for them??? Their prices are good, but twice now I've have to deal with CS and it's like waiting for a sloth to draw a picture...2 points

London was the only set I saw that was discounted. Besides I had close to 300 NYC at one time & a lot less of the London's. As far as retirement goes, nothing is official till it's official.1 point

Someone talk me out of buying these. There is no way these are a better investment over literally any other cheaper harry potter set. That will most likely go out of stock.1 point

It's funny people on reddit would dog it and have dogged it for years solely based on the fact that it was a heavily shilled 4chan coin. They still are bitter about it. I mean I understand people on reddit don't like it's it's not decentralized, but who really cares when it's been my best performer. The tribalism when it comes to people and their coins they support or hold can be a bit ridiculous online but if you can sift through the garbage on the web, you can find some useful information and find diamonds in the rough like Chainlink..1 point

Great advice. I had similar advice 19 years ago. I heard a radio show about investing that said the same thing. Buy what you know. So I looked around my advertising agency that was filled with Apple computers and I thought maybe I should buy some AAPL stock. This was pre-iPod (August 7, 2001 to be exact). My buy-in was $12K at $1.40 per share (adjusted for splits). Best advice I've ever had. Now I understand that was a once in a lifetime lucky payout but still great advice. Maybe we need an investing thread. We're WAY off topic.1 point

I hadn't done any day trading since the dot com bust, but got back in in March and did that until May. Made a good chunk of change on the airlines and cinema stocks before they took a second dive. I've been on the sidelines since writing and buying back covered calls since the volatility is commanding a premium and you can potentially pay off the buy-in price on the underlying stock in a year on some of these. I agree that now is not the time to buy. FOMO is running rampant and I don't see a long-term stimulant for some of these high-flying stocks -- those aided by covid will probably revert to pre-covid sales after the pandemic so why would their valuation remain 50 to 100% higher than pre-covid prices in some cases (I'm looking at you, AMZN)? I took most of my profits in May/June and threw them into boosting my LEGO inventory -- ironic given the brokerage accounts were loaded up with LEGO sales from the Christmas season. Who knows, might be shifting back again if the market corrects this fall when LEGO sales pick back up for the holidays. I went ahead and ordered a few 31097's from Costco just now to justify posting here1 point

Buy ecom and tech stocks now. Q2 earnings are happening this week, which are expected to show growth above expectations. Prices will spike. Sell at the spike before the August school openings, or convert them into bonds, when **** hits the fan. Then buy at the dip, and hold long term. For newbies, focus on 1 or 2 companies, and pay attention. You CAN buy stocks and invest in LEGO too. Diversify, diversify, diversify. Cheers!1 point

let's not forget many whales are sitting out and waiting...a lot of these stock prices are buoyed by relatively small actual amounts...it's akin to setting LEGO set prices based on a few Ebay sales...we've all seen that type of over-valuation.1 point

Also, you want some evidence that the stock market investor types are completely delusional? Carnival Cruise Lines is up 12.5% today. Seriously? On what good news? What is possibly going to be the shiny spot for the cruise industry by the end of the year? It's based in the region of the globe that is literally out of control right now, and dependent upon a barely-surviving airline industry to get it's customers there. High-profile mass infections and people stuck on ships for weeks - just recently! Granted, I'd like to buy me some Carnival, if it gets down to like $5 a share. Because Americans will likely forget all about this pandemic within about 24 months.1 point

I agree with all of this. While I bought individual stocks in March (for the first time in 15 years) I'm not buying now and have already sold more than half of what I bought in March. I've held onto Amazon and UPS - online shopping is booming. Definitely not a market expert, but totally believe this: "We've not begun to feel the economic sting of the pandemic, and the US seems culturally and intellectually incapable of addressing it." Which is why last week I moved 50% of my stock-based mutual fund 401k money out of stocks completely and into stable value. When the inevitable crash that's coming does happen, I'll buy back in with that 50% and smile. I'm betting the market is much more likely to decline by 20% than increase by 20% by year end - so preserving some equity. As heard on a Joe Rogan podcast, "the stock market is a graph of rich people's feelings."1 point

I am finishing up the long process of closing out my storage unit and getting prepped to sell. I moved the last of the shelves upstairs around 11:00 PM last night, and today (between working the day job) I've been unboxing, sorting and shelving sets. I picked up the last two loads and swept out the unit yesterday, to that chapter is closed. I can't finish building my theater room until I clean it out, so lots of stuff going on the market soon. Oh, since non-LEGO stuff, I'll focus on the room itself. It now has walls, doors, and climate control.1 point

Needed a decent home for the Blackstone, so I built a table out of 2 x 3 pine and a mold out of scrap and hard board for the 4’ x 2’ poured concrete slab top. Little heavier than I liked, but the casters are rated for 650 pounds. Cooked pizza last night on it. Bacon and eggs for breakfast this morning and doing burgers tonight. #griddle life1 point

Finally sold my last star wars buildable figure, what a relief. Bought these when I first started investing in 2016 /2017, I just saw the 50% off plus sign and thought how could I lose money! Boy did I not take into account things like: - Set turnover rate (how many sell on ebay in a day) - Set appreciation (I just assumed all lego would appreciate forever, I didn't research at all if the buildable figures would be sought after in the future). Even though I managed to miss the real stinkers like rey / jyn erso, I still only barely sold over my buyin cost, most profit per set was a couple of pounds, not a loss but definitely one of the worst investments I've made. I did managed to make money on the general gracious / jango fett. The last wave of buildable figures proved to be very rare in UK, and I managed to buy some after they retired and the boba fett / darth maul sold for about 2x rrp. Lesson learned, now hoping I can shift some of my old minifigure series, which I also didn't really think about, and rey speedors...1 point

Quick note that Joann is now active in the system, but again, nothing is on sale at the moment unless you use that 20% off that pops up over and over when you go to the site. For those that are interested, and again, nothing on sale, I figured a way to get the in stock inventory if you are want to buy a lot of what they have at retail . Should be pretty accurate, if they keep accurate count. I think when I've seen this before, the customer didn't return the original and I didn't get credit either. It's one of those things where Amazon determines that it is not worth sending the item back and just sends a replacement out to the customer. I may be wrong about that because I've only had this happen a couple times and the last time was a long time ago, but that's how I remember it working.0 points
