  1. Needed a decent home for the Blackstone, so I built a table out of 2 x 3 pine and a mold out of scrap and hard board for the 4’ x 2’ poured concrete slab top. Little heavier than I liked, but the casters are rated for 650 pounds. Cooked pizza last night on it. Bacon and eggs for breakfast this morning and doing burgers tonight. #griddle life

  2. I built BricksWithWings' MOC of Buck Rogers Starfighter over the weekend. It's one of my favorite ships and brings back a lot of childhood memories. It's about 400 pieces. The instructions cost $4, and I sourced the bricks from my bulk bin and Bricklink. I spent less than $30. This is the first MOC I've built, and it really makes you appreciate Lego's instruction manuals and build process. Granted, they are a multi-million dollar company and it's unfair to compare them to a fan-designed instruction manual. Overall, I am happy with the build, and I even swooshed it around the house afterwards. The look on my teenage daughter's face was priceless. Side note: I didn't follow the instruction manual for the display stand and ended up building my own stand with bricks I had on hand.

  5. I'm in the minority here. I don't see the appeal of this. Neat display piece I guess, but I'm just not feeling the same hype. I grew up in the '80s and still have my original NES hooked up and play it from time to time, so I understand the fandom. Anyone looking to spend that kind of dough on a NES Lego set would probably rather just buy a real NES that you can actually play. The reseller in me will probably buy a few just because, but I don't think I'll be loading up on these unless there is a steep discount. I think there are safer options at or below that price range to invest in. I'll enjoy watching from the sidelines.

  6. I'm not sure that folks who are taking unemployment are the ones dropping big bucks on Lego sets. It's far more likely to be parents who are both employed and working from home, and need something to keep their kids occupied during the day. A lot of folks I know say that they've been buying Lego to help pass the time either for themselves or their kids...a few have even marveled at how expensive some sets have gotten.

  10. Finally sold my last star wars buildable figure, what a relief. Bought these when I first started investing in 2016 /2017, I just saw the 50% off plus sign and thought how could I lose money! Boy did I not take into account things like: - Set turnover rate (how many sell on ebay in a day) - Set appreciation (I just assumed all lego would appreciate forever, I didn't research at all if the buildable figures would be sought after in the future). Even though I managed to miss the real stinkers like rey / jyn erso, I still only barely sold over my buyin cost, most profit per set was a couple of pounds, not a loss but definitely one of the worst investments I've made. I did managed to make money on the general gracious / jango fett. The last wave of buildable figures proved to be very rare in UK, and I managed to buy some after they retired and the boba fett / darth maul sold for about 2x rrp. Lesson learned, now hoping I can shift some of my old minifigure series, which I also didn't really think about, and rey speedors...

  19. Pretty cool stuff. Jeff and I have really been blessed over the years to meet so many intelligent and generous people through the site. Brickpickers have helped keep my sons' school open with their generosity and their participation in the annual LEGO raffle and have taught me a lot about business and reselling. Writing two books , writing for BLOCKS and being in the USA Today was really special and it was because of YOU that we had the chance to do it. I feel bad not being more active as of late, but we are moving in the middle of a pandemic and it has sucked all the time and life from me. Hopefully, I can back to my life again in a few weeks after packing, inspections and paperwork is over. I'm excited by what Jeff has shown me with his new changes that are coming to the site that will simplify and improve many of our main features. Thanks again everyone! Ed Mack

  20. Today it's nice to see that BrickPicker has achieved the milestone of hitting 100,000 registered users. Sure all of those members are not active, but regardless it's a nice achievement to hit, something Ed and I never would have thought would have hit years ago. New and better things are on the horizon, so stay tuned! Thank you for registering @lasloo!!!!!!!

  24. IDK...depends...some see it as a lot of waste I recently did a local face-to-face deal on the Lambo in it's nifty outer LEGO box W the additional ends cushion...I was floored when he just wanted to take the set...I was like...but...but...(I mean I rather have it in that box just for the ride home...you'know). The dude dropped $550 for the set and just threw it in his trunk (I could see the Uber driver tag on his windshield..I doubt he was THAT well off) I think a lot of us have that "reseller baggage" caring about things only the top 1% cares about

  29. The same market that was for the NES mini? That’s me. It’s neat but I’m not seeing the the same appeal you guys are. If this comes in at $250 you’d need to flip it for $350. I don’t see it. The retro gamers are spending their cash on the actual systems and games. Just my opinion.

  31. Sell-through it is then. I'm a small-timer, selling <50 items per month, but tend to go for maximum price, so I don't compete aggressively for the buy box. Might need to change that a bit then ... but then it'll become hard to maintain my 300% ROI *evil grin*

  33. a think-tank (some ivy league) posted that over 60% were making more from collecting Unemployment than working their regular jobs...and a whopping 28% made almost double their regular salary...so given that many households, especially in the lower tax brackets tend to live check to check...I would imagine quite a few are fueling the LEGO craze. Anecdotally, I've had two instances of ebay buyers buying $400+ sets...but also shared that they lost their jobs recently in our messaging (refer to Fruitcake thread for details)...and I am equivalent to quill shrimp as a reseller. the govment should just call the bill what it is: "The LEGO resellers bailout bill"

  40. As I am a die-hard Trains fan, the arrival of 10277 was highly anticipated. Built the set last night: As the gap between the noses and the main cab is unsightly, I proceeded to make the elimination of this gap the next thing I did. There are several methods, one using 1x4x1 panels (first posted on Eurobricks) and Jang's version with cheeseslopes, but both of them sacrificed side details from the original build, so I decided to roll my own mod, loosely based on Jang's. Instructions are in this post on Eurobricks. Here is a render of the final result (waiting for a few missing pieces to arrive to turn my "borrowed pieces" build into a nicely color-matching one):

  41. Heres a few Lego pics pic 1and 2: recent target arrival Iron Man. wouldn't have built if box was Minty. Build was ok. Ferrari down for dusting. Pic 3-4 Trailer complete from earlier build transport build. pic 5: As added info on My coaster I like to run five coaster cars attached not three, so i undid the last rubber band wheel(closest in picture) so it releases earlier. It may be the reason the chain is putting in more work and needs clutch I mentioned earlier. It does coast back to the chain easier as five. Happy Independence Day!

  43. LEGO is a very conservative company and will often put worse case scenario timelines for production. This winter is going to be extremely interesting. A lot of shopping shifted to online sales over the past 10 years but this year it will be an extreme shift. The freight companies are backed up like crazy and it will only get worse. Amazon appears to be shipping items directly from LEGO warehouses given how many boxes have shown up in LEGO branded boxes. I could imagine a world where LEGO uses Amazon as a store front and logistics company to fulfill its back order of sets instead of finding freight companies to distribute them to B&M stores. Amazon is poised to be a crusher in times like this. They built the most efficient fulfillment system in existence and continue to be flexible and innovate. I would expect non traditional fulfillment and stock fluctuations.

  44. Finished this up last week. Its a really nice set with some interesting building techniques. I bought the set for the bookshop - my parents wrote children's books when I was a kid and it reminds me of the independent bookshops we used to visit for their presentations, but honestly I liked the house build more. I know this has received criticism for being small, etc, but the details are really nice. I built the Grand Emporium a few months ago and there is a definitely a difference in style between the earlier modulars and the trend of newer ones, but not a bad one in my opinion. I do agree that LEGO missed a great opportunity to create more clever book titles like they did with the Palace Cinema movie posters, and I feel like they could have tossed in a couple more leaf elements for the tree, but overall I think its a really great set!

  47. Wife wanted a home office and the only option was our garden shed out back. Took about three weeks. Had to install three new larger windows, new subfloor, reframed the door and installed a new one, trenched and buried electrical 75ft, new 20 amp breaker in the panel wired, vapor barrier, insulation, wood tongue and groove pine, installed a screen door. Likely do plywood planks for the floor tomorrow. All told about $1000 w a small window A/C unit. It’s only about 70 sqft so not much of a chance for multi use space. It was her Mother’s Day/ birthday gift. She keeps calling it our Covid Cabin.
