Pretty cool stuff. Jeff and I have really been blessed over the years to meet so many intelligent and generous people through the site. Brickpickers have helped keep my sons' school open with their generosity and their participation in the annual LEGO raffle and have taught me a lot about business and reselling. Writing two books , writing for BLOCKS and being in the USA Today was really special and it was because of YOU that we had the chance to do it. I feel bad not being more active as of late, but we are moving in the middle of a pandemic and it has sucked all the time and life from me. Hopefully, I can back to my life again in a few weeks after packing, inspections and paperwork is over. I'm excited by what Jeff has shown me with his new changes that are coming to the site that will simplify and improve many of our main features. Thanks again everyone! Ed Mack

I have a pretty in-depth spreadsheet tracking costs (annual & quarterly), income, resell sets, personal minifigs & sets... basically the works. Well, I showed this off to the girlfriend and she said "Nice, but where's the annual budget element?", to which I responded "eh, I set that in my head and I am usually on target".... Long story short, she made me build a new page and set an annual budget for lego. I devoted 85% of it to resell & 15% to personal. I built the formulas, ran the numbers... and..... I am very close to being out of budget in July.... ...ouch. Oh well, it was needed.

My $0.02: This is a widely-discussed topic in my face-to-face friendships. I tutored math (Algebra 1 thru Fininte Problems) for 8 years while I was a HS, Undergrad & Masters student. This experience left me with 2 firm conclusions: #1 Long-term, consistent, incremental, and monitored tutoring is a slam dunk... but all 4 factors must be in place. "Smart" is not a requisite. #2 The "best practices" (in my experience only) I discovered over those yrs suggested that I should not try being father and tutor simultaneously given the dynamics of each job. We use Kumon, but it's not best of breed... it's just easy and inexpensive. I support the Kumon rubric, but acknowledge its weaknesses may make it a bad fit for some learners. Kumon is exactly as is often described - purely rote. Wash, Rinse, Repeat until you "get it." Sorry, no word problems. Logic? Not covered here. That said, I feel as though the reason people struggle so often with math is due to weakness in their core 4 skills of Add/Subt/Mult/Div, especially beyond single digits. Kumon is IMO excellent at building this base. The need for nuance is real as you walk up the ladder in math, but w/o confidence in those core fundamentals you inevitably will be building on sand instead of stone. YMMV widely. Donbee - I've noticed for some time you have the Kumon symbol as your avatar on this site... Are you a franchisee?

Some possibilities. Someone was able to order the set cheaper on Amazon and sell it to you on Ebay for profit. Someone used a stolen credit card to order on Amazon and sell it to you on Ebay. Someone oversold on Ebay and didn't want to risk negative feedback so they took a loss and ordered it on Amazon for you.

after my stint at Home teaching during the distant learning forced by CV after 3 years of class volunteering: Based on a US grammar school the system is designed to reach the lowest denominator of learner or at least the bottom 3rd. If you are the parent of any sort of over-achiever then what your child is really challenged by on a daily basis is boredom.

So here is what I have been working on this quarantine. Before: After: Needs a bit of trim and some paint. Everything is easily removable so it can switch back to being a clothes closet. Stores the same amount of LEGO as before. Not visible are the left and right alcoves (about 2ftx2ft each) that contain more boxes and storage. Can't wait to start using it!

When you place five different Bricklink orders to complete an incomplete set to resell and you miss one piece. Yes, one piece. Damn you dark brown 1 x 4 tile! Measure twice and cut once. Or in the case of Bricklink, check twice and then check again before placing order.

Don’t get me wrong. The sunrise/sets are incredible, but Give me the lake all day. No sand, no sea creatures and most of all, no crazies!!

Nice. I live 2 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean and 2 minutes from Cape Cod Bay. I get to watch the Sunrise and Sunset over water. Truly an amazing place to grow up and live.

Had to install three new larger windows, new subfloor, reframed the door and installed a new one, trenched and buried electrical 75ft, new 20 amp breaker in the panel wired, vapor barrier, insulation, wood tongue and groove pine, installed a screen door. Likely do plywood planks for the floor tomorrow. All told about $1000 w a small window A/C unit. It’s only about 70 sqft so not much of a chance for multi use space. It was her Mother’s Day/ birthday gift. She keeps calling it our Covid Cabin.
