  1. I've been here so long that I can remember back when this thread actually was used to consistently share deals. As currently over 650 people receive email updates each time something is posted in this thread. Perhaps we need a sticky at the top of the thread explaining that this thread is for links to items for purchase, and that there are other threads for discussion such as: Still awaiting your order from a previous deal? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/topic/8838-my-order-status/ Were you able to purchase an item from a posted deal? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/topic/402-what-lego-set-did-you-buy-today/ Are you skeptical about a deal and feel like hearing yourself talk about how it's a poor investment? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/topic/4494-what-lego-set-did-you-not-buy-today/ Wondering if a posted deal is a good purchase? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/topic/15615-what-lego-to-buy-or-sell-general-set-advice-questions-comparisons/ Curious if a posted deal is on the verge of retirement? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/topic/4008-retiring-soon-open-speculation/ Is the investing bubble approaching its tipping point? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/topic/3911-the-speculative-bubble-why-it-could-and-why-it-wont/ Random jabber completely unrelated to a deal? : https://www.brickpicker.com/forums/forum/89-really-non-lego-stuff/

  3. Technically all the info is out there but so too was all the info about bad mortgages being packaged with triple A mortgages before the subprime crisis if you knew and had time to dig into the massive disclosure statements. The average person doesn’t follow websites or become a VIP or even get emailed offers from LEGO. They think about LEGO when little Timmy has a birthday and asks for something. Even parents or their kids who are big fans often don’t know the simplest tricks. For example, a friend of mine was proud that he had gotten all the Lego Batman movie sets for his son. I asked him if he had the Penguin rolls Royce. Deer in headlights. That set was only available at the LEGO store/ website for a short time. He did his buying at wal-mart or Toys R Us. I didn’t have the heart to go into all the various poly bag and other promos I was certain he didn’t have. Maybe one day he’ll discover he can’t live with his failure, and where will that bring him? Back to my Amazon store. Maybe I am a monster.

  7. LEGO has in a sense become a luxury brand. I find them similar to how my wife’s purse makers behave. They have their regular purses that get reissued from time to time like fire and police sets, but get their diehards and diehard wannabes excited with limited editions that they purposefully issue in limited quantities that they know will sell out because they want to generate buzz and demand. Plus they have their truly expensive bags, the UCS of the line, which separate the elite from the plebs. They tolerate resellers (but not counterfeiters) because they spread brand value and mystique.

  9. the london set the sticker looks like crap because the sticker obscures part of the set. the rarer set will be the pre-covid ones without stickers that will probably have b een opened up and built now. but it won't make a big difference because its architecture.

  10. But do you remember when there was a new daily deal thread created each day and it used to include lots of inane chit chat? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

  11. Agreed. What gets me is attitudes like the message I got last month from some woman complaining about my double retail price on a long EOL Friends set that was in stores for 2 years and often discounted (which is when I bought them). Apparently she needed this set for a birthday and I’m a “monster” for selling a set above retail years later. She took time out of her day to write that message to me despite not buying anything. And I’m the lowest price on Amazon Canada. I raised the price right then.

  12. Sold my Haunted House for $390 on BL. Before selling, I got a handful of comments about how terrible of a person I am, and my price wasn't even the highest! I did truly consider keeping the set, but would hesitate to buy a pre-release for the sole purpose of flipping. If I was a wide-eyed innocent kid / family who got their LEGO catalog in the mail this week and saw this beauty that our family could build; only to find that it's been OOS for weeks while scalpers have jacked the price up almost 100% I would be pretty upset. IDK, I go back and forth but even if you find a buyer they are usually NOT happy in this situation which just goes against the spirit of LEGO, in my humble opinion. It's a whole different story after the set has seen its time on the fair market with ample opportunity for anyone who really wants to grab it at a fair price. As far as retired sets, that seems fair even if prices have climbed a lot. Those are going to established collectors who know what they're getting into and what it will cost; it's worth it to them. I am more than open to your opinions, of course. Just sharing my recent experience.

  14. More than likely, but some are harder than others. There have been a few questions about this new sticker we've been seeing so I just wanted to offer my experience on how easy it was... just trying to help in case other were curious and wanted to do the same.

  16. Half of the sets at the Target I was just at had the stickers. That makes me feel better since this will help desensitize the end consumer to them. Interesting times.....

  17. Great question, especially since so much has come out since this thread was created. I'll make mine a little less childhood this time, though some of those still stand out. 1) UCS Millennium Falcon - Either would deserve to be here. 10179 for how it served as the gold standard for so many years, and 75192 for how much they improved upon it. 2) 10189 Taj Mahal - Amazing set in person. Need to build mine again. 3) 10181 Eiffel Tower - Very impressive in size, honestly needs an update structurally through, similar to 10030 4) 10030 UCS Star Destroyer - I don't own the new one yet, so this will sit in its place for now. Massive but needed the update it got. 5) 42083 Bugatti Chiron - Masterpiece in Technic ingenuity. 6) 10210 Imperial Flagship - Still the gold standard for pirate ships. 7) 6990 Monorail - While not "Classic" space, this is about as coveted a space set as there is and blew everything previous out of the water with the motorized components 8. 71043 Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle - The HP set we wanted for so long in small scale. 9) 10261 Creator Roller Coaster - There are other roller coasters, but the sheer size of this and the ability to motorize it make it a must have for fairground builders 10) 10255 Assembly Square - Using elements of its predecessors, this modular is almost perfect in build techniques, colors, build quality.

  18. I've had a few on a Wednesday afternoon make a low-ball offer and demand the item by Friday. They get declined without explanation.

  19. The Star Destroyer for sure, the new version is a huge improvement. These two are much too different for comparison. The first looks like that house you'd hear rumors about while in school, and has actual monsters in it. The latter is very clean and very much looks like a haunted attraction at an amusement park.

  20. As I was scalping UCS Falcon's when they were released, and making more than double on cash sales, I laughed all the way to the bank. You snooze, you lose. This market thrives on impatient people with money to piss away. If I didn't take their money someone else would.

  27. You actually think Lego is not going to be able to produce a new, popular set like Pirates of Barracuda Bay until next year? They're just going to forget Christmas when they make all their money??? And please refrain from saying "the new normal". It's an idiotic phrase that was pushed on us as a form of compliance and acceptance.

  28. I ended up taking one off of a Potter train. It was stuck on there so poorly you could tell it was crooked from 10 ft away. So I grabbed the wife's hair dryer and gently warmed up the area for 10 or 20 seconds, picked a corner and started peeling, and then blew the hair dryer under the sticker as I slowly pulled it off. About halfway through it more or less starts falling off. I did this to three sets where the stickers were put on pretty crooked and I didn't rip a single one. I'd say it's safe and takes less than a minute. I'm not going to remove them from all of the sets, only the ones that are clearly crooked.

  31. I'd very much agree with the significance of 42056. Was a bit of a risk at the time in terms of size and cost, and came with unusual, more adult-themed packaging. It was a smash hit, has spawned a line of products, and shifted TLG's focus for many of their larger sets. They are now releasing most large D2Cs with more 'grown-up' packaging moving forward, and they are releasing increasing varieties of adult-targeted sets that would have been seen as too far-out and risky just a few years ago. As far as I can tell, 42056 was the catalyst for all this.

  32. IMO - doesn’t matter if they restock, resellers will continue buying, limiting availability to consumers. Prices may drop a bit but demand will remain high for a while. The majority of our customers aren’t tracking stock levels of Lego. This should do well Q4. Panic buying will continue, these “restocks” were likely supposed to hit April/May.

  33. People who want these hard to find Lego sets either need diligence (to get the details ahead of time), patience (to wait until the set is easily available) or money. Only the potential buyer can decide which one they are willing to use

  36. The idea is good, but the proportions are horribly off. They are too tall, too thin, and the ears are too large. Looks like they should be strolling down the catwalk

  37. I finally got around to putting this together. I love all those engines on the back and the odd proportions of the front. The little butter-yellow pieces are a little confusing to me but guessing they are there to add a little variation?

  44. no, that's weird. This is what mine said... Dear ______ We canceled your 2nd order of 10273 Haunted House, because let's face it... you were only going to keep both orders in a box on a shelf while occasionally telling your wife, "I bought that for $250, and it's worth $2225 now!" If you were serious about making that extra $100 on a "quick flip" then you would have opened up your ebay account at least once in the last 3 months, or updated that one "Welcome to Apocolypseburg" listing you have on Facebook Marketplace. But... you didn't. so... yep. Really, you should thank us. Just build the first one, OK? Kind regards, LEGO® Customer Service

  45. Don't do it! My biggest regret was cashing out points for a free bill and then literally seeing the Batpod come up the next week. I swore to never do it again and it paid off last month when I picked up 2 Mini Droid Commanders as loyalty rewards.

  46. I'm expecting the Hogwarts Express (75955) to go this year. And I'm expecting it to do well after retirement. Assembly Square (10255) seems also like a likely candidate. There are some pretty big new sets available now and some older big sets need to make place for it, right ? I don't think Rollercoaster (10261) will go just yet. It's the only big set which offers lots of rollercoaster track elements for MOC builders. Assuming it's still in good demand. Treehouse (21318) ought to be on the regular Ideas retirement schedule of (year of release) + 1 year = year of retirement. I doubt it will do an exception like Saturn V did. This set could do pretty well after retirement. Similar to Old Fishing Store. Other Ideas sets sharing the same fate: Steamboat Willie, The Flintstones, and maybe also Dinosaur Fossils. An outsider candidate for going out could be: The Upside Down (75810) from Stranger Things. It's in production for a year now, and the target audience is not very wide. EOF end od 2020 doesn't seem unlikely to me. An entire Theme that could well be on the way out is the Overwatch Theme. I think it was a mistake for LEGO to spend their resources on this theme and I don't think it make a lot of money. And finally, the LEGO Movie 2 Theme will see a lot of retirements is my expectation.
