  3. I needed something to do for half an hour and watched PotC Curse of the Black Pearl so I built the renegade runner again before I start on the Pearl. Quick little build and I like the finished result because of how great the large sail looks.

  9. I wonder if this is only for international shipments that are done through methods other than GSP. With GSP, Ebay is already getting an extra cut thanks to additional charges for the buyer. Of course, if you're right, then I will be turning that off, too.

  10. I wanted to create a new thread in order to give progress on my site updates. I want explain a bit on what happened and what I am doing. What happened with the site? Honestly nothing really exciting or dramatic, overall in the end, I did not want to support the host I was with for the past four years after not really offering too much help with managed servers. They would spend 30 seconds looking, say they can ping the server so its up and then just say, "hey not my problem". I was on aging hardware, paying the same amount of money, so I took the opportunity to move to a new host with better/faster hardware and a staff that does help to support you when run into an issue that you can't handle on your own. I have been doing this a long time and pretty good monitoring and handling 99% of what comes my way, but there are issues that you need the next level up to help figure out what to do. I wasn't getting anything like that, but paying for it. Not anymore. What my goal is... I know more than anyone that the site needed some TLC. It's been a while since I have done any drastic updates, the site looked tired and I know the site can be so much better than what it's current state was. LEGO investing has changed since Ed and I launched the site and it's time to remove the dead content and bring more of what people are looking for. Below is the short term list of items planned for updating. I have been working on the nightly, just like the early days and enjoying seeing parts of it coming to life. Fix the login. This has been messed up and quirky for a while. This has been resolved and working well. It's a simple thing overall, but nice that it actually works how it's supposed to Overall price guide site design update. The site was tired and disjointed. I hated it and pained me to look at it. Time to start over. Brickfolio update. All the Brickfolio data is safe. I have close to three million rows of data for Brickfolio entries. Time to bring this thing to 2020. I will probably create another thread at some point to solicit some feedback on some new requests for the brickfolio Fix the data syncing with Brickset. A lot of people used this feature, but it's time to make it work the way it should. Later I will work on the content portions. The news and blogs. I have some good ideas for this, but want to get the price guide and brickfolio to you sooner than later. What I am asking for if possible... If you can, please stop asking where the brickfolio is. Again, the data is safe and I am working as fast as I can to bring it all back to you. It won't be a few days, but more like a few weeks, but it will be worth it. I setup my dev environment to push releases quick and easy. I want to create a true changelog so that you can follow updates to see what was done/fixed/new/removed, you know like what real software companies do. I really do appreciate your patience with this. It wasn't planned, but if there was going to be a time to do it, it was going to be now.

  11. Personally, I would just flip it on Ebay and put in the description that the box has shelf wear. These are going for $360+, so you wouldn't make a ton, but it would likely be more than you would get from Lego customer service. And you would stay off their radar (see the other thread about the person who was recently banned).

  15. I used to buy big set boxes on ebay, but for some reason sellers dont stock them anymore. I ran out at start of the year and bought from the below place: https://www.lilpackaging.com/products/g30 The g30 box 60 x 45 x 15 cm is big enough to fit sets like Saturn 5 / voltron etc. Dont have destiny bounty (I thought it wouldn't do good, bad mistake not buying when it was £50 at argos). It is single walled cardboard, but to be honest, I've never had any buyers complaining about issues with damage to sets etc. I bought 25 boxes and it end up costing me about £2.66 per box, very expensive. You used to be able to buy same boxes for about £1.20 to £1.50 each, but I cant find any sellers in UK that stock them anymore for that price. You can bring cost down if you order more quantity, but my wife already has a go at me for having so many boxes lying around the house. I just re-order when I get low stock.

  16. Just to circle back , I completed the set this week. If you've built the 10030, this is a very different experience. The skeleton and superstructure are a very different build than the past one and the greebling, while intense at times, is no where near as repetitive feeling as it was before. While the complexity and updates to the ship are very impressive and worthwhile, I do have two major complaints. The first is the ball joints used to connect the body sheets to the frame. The very tip of the prow uses 2x2 plates with a ball joint to connect the 4 surfaces to the skeleton. These ball joints are super strong, far stronger then the plate to plate connection. Multiple times when I would try to clip the nose down, the ball joint would connect and the plate would pop off. And at that angle and spacing, it's impossible to reattach, so I would have to take the plate off and try again. Rock solid once attached, but a pain in the butt to get it on at times. Second, and maybe greater complaint, is the integrated stand. It's trash. Every other UCS set has a rock solid technic frame that is absolutely bomber. This set has a base made of two layers of plates, and the technic girders are connected by 4 studs and a pair of 1x2 plates with arms. Pathetic. The stand would shear apart at an angle constantly. I may rebuild the base using the 10030 design and attach the girders and be done with it. Those complaints aside, it's a pretty awesome set. The original ISD was commanding in it's size. This new one is just as commanding and more detailed.

  21. As others have said: You can't really predict. Even if you have the list, it will only help you in knowing what to buy - but which month it retires is a different story. It's pretty much safe to say the Black Friday carnage on Shop at Home last year won't repeat itself. So maybe no discounts at all as all the other retailers won't go down if LEGO sells out. And there is the possibility of sets disappearing without them producing anymore... it will say toos in June but it may be gone already...

  22. this is pretty much impossible...the Mexico plant is still closed and currently 2 months behind schedule (I doubt their pace in the best of times left much room for "ramping up" anyway). Every other manufacturing sector is experiencing reduced efficiency due to new health restrictions....we've already seen what happens when LEGO tries to ramp up their other factories...ie every Exclusive sets on LEGO Shop at Home is OOS. ...and thru it all TLG still prioritized getting brand new never heard of Monkey turds (w/ a ton of Chinese writing on box cover) out to market...so the decision makers are clearly not reading the room

  25. I just don't see the Community set having enough widespread appeal for LEGO to take it on like the Big Bang or Friends sets. That windmill is awesome. With Elves gone, I'd really love to see a line that focuses on fantasy/medieval settings that aren't strictly "knights/castle." I know the creator of the windmill set also submitted a Legend of Zelda set, and that is right in line with what I am picturing.

  27. Many of these projects look great to me. I doubt it would be space just because of already having the Lander and ISS available. My favorite is the train station, but I don't think they'll pick that one due to the size. Globe, Bowling alley and Zelda castle would be next. I'd give globe the best chance out of those

  33. I like the fishing boat and bowling alley. Although there aren't really any that jump out at me as a awesome set. Far and away, my favorite is the bowling alley, but I'm probably biased as I used to be an avid bowler. The other sets that grab me, and I think have a shot, are the fishing boat (though I think it's the color scheme as much as anything) and the Gemini project (will this set be disallowed because of the Saturn V set?) I would really like to see the Ruined House chosen, but that seems too out-of-the-box for Lego. Of the licensed options, I think the Krusty Krab is the strongest possibility, followed by the Iron Giant. Futurama is the wild card, but I'm doubting its chances.

  38. I have to think a design which hits 10k in a matter of a few months would be given more attention than one which requires closer to a year. Has anyone done an analysis of time-to-10k vs becoming an actual set?
    1 point
  39. Not that I have the talent or creativity to do so, but if I were one of these designers I might be a little upset that the time 1 of my designs finally makes the threshold 20 others do too. Essentially cutting my chances of being selected in half.

  46. The less people are reminded of some sets, the less they may remember to hoard them so it´s not necessarily a bad thing. My catalogue has 14 pages of Ninjago and SW and half a page of Architecture and that´s just the way it should be.
