SInce 2016 I have been investing in Lego and have built up quite an inventory. Due to many sets becoming really valuable right now, I started selling off about half of my inventory. Most of my Lego is stored in a large storage company with a fence that has a code, a door that has a code and my boxes have good locks. This local storage company has a good reputation, so I expected my stuff to be safe. I'm pretty cautious, so I had my Lego in several units far apart in the building, so thiefs would not accidentally stumble upon my whole collection. They did however find one box... This Wednesday, I went to the company and took some boxes on a cart to the elevator to store them in one of my spaces. Two dodgy looking guys took also put an empty cart in the elevator (non-person elevator). When I was upstairs to take my cart out, the guys where not there to get their cart. A minute later I found out why. They saw the boxes on my cart and realised they looked very similar to the ones in the one they were stealing from. When I went to my unit, I found out there was a hole in the side of it. They used an empty unit next to it that was left open to break through the metal walls between the units. They put a lot of my Lego in that unit and had a cart ready to take it out. It just happened to be my luck, that at exactly that time, I came to my unit. Ten minutes earlier or later, I would have actually caught them in my unit, so that feels pretty scary as I can imagine many scenarios of how that could play out. Honestly, I'm in a pretty good shape, but my last fight was when I was 15 or so. And it was not really a fight, anyway LONG STORY SHORT: The police came and the owner of the building has them on camera. Even dumber, one of the thiefs used the code to enter the building of his stepfather. They were walking through the building the day before to check out all the units and looking over narrow slits at the top to see what's inside. This fstepather was called by police and could immediately ID his stepson. Apparently, he immediately knew it had probably got something to do with him. They have caught the guys. This was a really dumb "heist". For me it was pretty lucky and scary at the same time. I'm arranging to get private strorage at an inconspicuous place, where I can get better security and insurance. I will update when I know more. The police has to go through all the motions. PS: I know you might feel the urge to be like hindsight man and point me on the risks of this kind of storage etc, but please refrain from it. I took a risk by doing it this way, but I did a cost- benefit analysis and this was a midprice place with good security and a lot of cameras. These guys were caught, because you have to be pretty dumb to do this. The guys will likely be charged with attempt of breaking and entering, so the punishment will be lower. They were lucky I was there to prevent them, because they would have been caught anyway. I will attach some pics so you get a better idea of it. And, I immediatly rented a truck and moved the stuff, of course This whole event did lower my enthousiasm for lego investing for a couple of days, but I'm selling a lot of sets now and the happiness of the people that buy it is very rewarding, so I'll just keep going10 points

Let me help with that... I went ahead and created some posts in the thread just to get things rolling:5 points

Question for mods, would it be possible to start a thread and call it "Retiring Soon - open speculation", or something like that? We could post things in there, instead of in the Daily Deals thread.4 points

I'm expecting the Hogwarts Express (75955) to go this year. And I'm expecting it to do well after retirement. Assembly Square (10255) seems also like a likely candidate. There are some pretty big new sets available now and some older big sets need to make place for it, right ? I don't think Rollercoaster (10261) will go just yet. It's the only big set which offers lots of rollercoaster track elements for MOC builders. Assuming it's still in good demand. Treehouse (21318) ought to be on the regular Ideas retirement schedule of (year of release) + 1 year = year of retirement. I doubt it will do an exception like Saturn V did. This set could do pretty well after retirement. Similar to Old Fishing Store. Other Ideas sets sharing the same fate: Steamboat Willie, The Flintstones, and maybe also Dinosaur Fossils. An outsider candidate for going out could be: The Upside Down (75810) from Stranger Things. It's in production for a year now, and the target audience is not very wide. EOF end od 2020 doesn't seem unlikely to me. An entire Theme that could well be on the way out is the Overwatch Theme. I think it was a mistake for LEGO to spend their resources on this theme and I don't think it make a lot of money. And finally, the LEGO Movie 2 Theme will see a lot of retirements is my expectation.3 points

Most likely a) shipped from store b) from a teenager with limited packing/shipping experience c) while wearing a mask and gloves d) during a global pandemic e) who may have thought it was a relatively sturdy box. I'd give some grace in this situation and move on to the next quick flip to make $20.2 points

Brickpickers, we realized that no one (Ed, Jeff, Rich or myself) actually clarified part of the "Reseller Special" prize that deals with the West End Toys fulfillment/consignment program. My bad. I shot this info out via email to all our vendors today, hopefully it helps clarify that part of the prize and inspires more bids! Good luck! Any questions reach out to me via DM or at my email. Hey vendor team! For once this email is trying to get you to buy things that don't end up here! Ed and Jeff over at Brickpicker.com have been incredibly kind to us here at West End Toys over the years. Rich and Jason (who most of you have interacted with in person) were actually former admins over there who I met on Brickpicker.com (back in like 2010??) and hit it off with and we all rolled with this operation together. Around half of y'all that use our consignment/fulfillment program have some presence on Brickpicker.com even if we didn't meet you there. Over the years it's been a valuable information resource to flippers, investors and people who care about Lego in general. Additionally some pretty cool non Lego related friendships have formed! Even though we don't share all our information over there it's still a cool community of like minded Lego lovers that we do our best to support. Every year Ed does a fundraiser to benefit a small Catholic private school that does a great job educating his son and other children up in New Jersey. They continuously tend to face financial difficulties (as do most small private religious schools) and Ed has done his best over the years to personally contribute and to contribute via these raffles on Brickpicker. There are some pretty cool prizes this year for the raffles, including a bunch of expensive Lego set lots. But there is one prize that stands above the rest! For the winner of the "Brickpicker Reseller Special" we will be discounting your West End Toys fulfillment fee by 1% over the rest of the year. For the larger sellers y'all will clearly recognize how valuable this can be to you if you win (it's such a valuable prize that I bought a 1000 tickets to that raffle hoping I don't have to grant the prize hah). I'm cringing saying this, but yes this does apply to your current volume discount thresholds as well. Even if you don't win it's still a tax deductible contribution that is going to a good cause. Help support Ed and St. Paul! Can't even begin to describe how selfless Ed and Jeff have been over the years keeping Brickpicker running for free/at a loss. Here is the link https://stpaulbrl.rallyup.com/2020legoraffle Give it a whirl, try to win, and if you have any questions as always feel free to reach out. Thanks ~ Evans1 point

I've had the 10030 on display for 3 years now, and have yet to see any sagging/drooping or issues with magnets. Maybe luck, maybe just build skill The greebling is pretty intense on the new set, but the long side greebles are just one big string of plates that clip on from nose to stern, rather than 20+ repetitions of the same 2x8 plate. Also, the main hull is made up of almost a dozen 16x16 plates. Should speed up the build and improve stability1 point

I donated for the first time and am super stoked to see the raffle results. I see the drawing is set for midnight tonight. I was planning on staying up to check out the results tonight - can we expect you to post the results shortly after the drawing? thank you!!1 point

Thanks for sharing. I've had the same concerns and always take precautions with anyone coming by when I'm in my storage unit.1 point

I picked one of those up from a local Target yesterday. Even there it had a crease in it like someone swung it into a shelf. idk, I'm getting less and less confident ordering LEGO from Target. I will not order the smallest LEGO sets through the mail as they all come in garment bags like yours did.1 point

Hi Ed, just wanted to let you know that I am in - again. Did you miss me? 😉 Sorry for my late entrance, I wasn't sure if I would make it. You are right, these are trying times. But I couldn't let you and especially the kids down after all these years. So let's reach for the 30k! To infinity and beyond!1 point

lol - you can't visit this building - it was demolished in 1968. i have attributed this fact to the uncharacteristically poor performance of this set which should have done much better given its pedigree.1 point

The Corner Garage would need to retire at the end of 2021 to have the same life as Brick Bank. Diner might go, but I doubt there will be a double retirement. The retirement of Detective's Office and Brick Bank was probably to 'catch up' on retirements, since Pet Shop had lasted so long that there was no retirement in 2015.1 point

Well, in the old days😁, people would write you a check for higher priced items, as most didn't carry larger amounts of cash. There was a slight (or higher) chance of the check being fraudulent. Hence the phrase. But today, yeah, it's kind of stupid and irrelevant.1 point

Sold a Palace Cinema (open box, sealed bags) - the seals had stretched so I just opened it up lest anyone think it had been tampered with. Buy in $95, sold for $305 + shipping. My best was a lot of sealed bags I purchased for $20 ended up being a Brick Bank + one extra sealed bag for a Ninjago Movie Strider set. I purchased a new instructions + I had a new tan base plate ($5). So for roughly $30 invested I sold it new, sealed bags, no box for $345 + shipping.1 point
