  2. 3+ year thread bump incoming... I thought I would contribute to this thread by providing a picture. I'm in the fortunate position of owning a new Green Grocer where all the bags are sealed but the box seals have come unstuck. Here are all the bags laid out (the numbers earlier in the thread are correct):

  4. I just list with a flat rate that is the same for everybody, based on past shipping experience. Depending on the buyers location, I might over or under charge, but it all evens out in the long run. They know and agree to the shipping rate before they purchase, so there are no surprises, and it takes the guess work out of providing exact shipping rates. I’m in Wisconsin, so shipping to either coast is nearly the same, with the west coast usually being a little higher. I have noticed that USPS rates are a joke now for large packages. I used to use them for everything, but now FedEx is typically $10-$15 cheaper on average for large packages compared to USPS, and they get it there much faster. USPS now only gets my small stuff. Everything else goes FedEx.

  5. I think the voting changes help as well. Remember when you used to have to also select target audience, how many you thought people would purchase, and for what price? Extra thought process slows people down. Now you just click on the submission and hit support and move on.

  6. Here's one, I have an item listed for $45 buy it now with offers turned on. This person comes and offers $35 and I counter at $40. He counters again at $35 so I just declined. He then did this two more times. I block him as a bidder and then he proceeds to do it with 2 other eBay users (all have the same zip code and similar name) so I blocked all of them. Latest is that he has messaged me offering $35 for the item.

  7. I love all of these. Adding the astronomy tower is so great - really creates quite the play set when you add the other three parts! I know it's kinda blocky but I love that they made a Grawp in the Umbridge set. Centaur figs are also cool.

  10. I wanted to create a new thread in order to give progress on my site updates. I want explain a bit on what happened and what I am doing. What happened with the site? Honestly nothing really exciting or dramatic, overall in the end, I did not want to support the host I was with for the past four years after not really offering too much help with managed servers. They would spend 30 seconds looking, say they can ping the server so its up and then just say, "hey not my problem". I was on aging hardware, paying the same amount of money, so I took the opportunity to move to a new host with better/faster hardware and a staff that does help to support you when run into an issue that you can't handle on your own. I have been doing this a long time and pretty good monitoring and handling 99% of what comes my way, but there are issues that you need the next level up to help figure out what to do. I wasn't getting anything like that, but paying for it. Not anymore. What my goal is... I know more than anyone that the site needed some TLC. It's been a while since I have done any drastic updates, the site looked tired and I know the site can be so much better than what it's current state was. LEGO investing has changed since Ed and I launched the site and it's time to remove the dead content and bring more of what people are looking for. Below is the short term list of items planned for updating. I have been working on the nightly, just like the early days and enjoying seeing parts of it coming to life. Fix the login. This has been messed up and quirky for a while. This has been resolved and working well. It's a simple thing overall, but nice that it actually works how it's supposed to Overall price guide site design update. The site was tired and disjointed. I hated it and pained me to look at it. Time to start over. Brickfolio update. All the Brickfolio data is safe. I have close to three million rows of data for Brickfolio entries. Time to bring this thing to 2020. I will probably create another thread at some point to solicit some feedback on some new requests for the brickfolio Fix the data syncing with Brickset. A lot of people used this feature, but it's time to make it work the way it should. Later I will work on the content portions. The news and blogs. I have some good ideas for this, but want to get the price guide and brickfolio to you sooner than later. What I am asking for if possible... If you can, please stop asking where the brickfolio is. Again, the data is safe and I am working as fast as I can to bring it all back to you. It won't be a few days, but more like a few weeks, but it will be worth it. I setup my dev environment to push releases quick and easy. I want to create a true changelog so that you can follow updates to see what was done/fixed/new/removed, you know like what real software companies do. I really do appreciate your patience with this. It wasn't planned, but if there was going to be a time to do it, it was going to be now.

  12. I'd never buy a set like this new unless the price was right. I previously had a sealed 10185 that I got for £300 (I believe I posted that in the 'what set did you buy today' thread in about 2017). I decided that I couldn't justify opening it to build, so I sold it early last year for £840 so I could buy a used one and pocket the difference. The very same month, I was able to get this version for the price of a used set from an eBay auction, thanks to the seller labelling it as used rather than new.

  13. Absolutely everything there is a banger. I'm loving the fact that some of these have genuinely not been released in Lego form yet. Privet drive was also in dire need of an update (though I'm not sure I see the need for yet another Anglia when the Whomping Willow set hasn't even retired yet - presumably this makes it almost a dead cert to go). My pick of the bunch is the Grawp set. Only major downside is that this will halve the value of 4840s, which have been nice earners for me when found in bundles.

  14. The scene depicted in the set is from the Order of the Phoenix movie, there was never an attack on the Burrow in the book . That wouldn't happen till Deathly Hallows . I knew it looked familiar .

  15. That’s reasonable. I also think as submissions hit 10k, and word gets out, it encourages people to look at other projects, note which are close to 10k, and then vote for them. Idk how many of these 10k projects really deserve the 10k. I do think they are all worthwhile MOCs, created by very talented people. But I feel like some people just vote because a submission is close and they want to put it over the edge.

  16. Assuming the Astronomy tower connects to the clock tower like whomping willow to the great hall, etc. Wow, what a display piece all four will become together! I'm not huge into HP but my wife collects them. She's excited. I want hedwig as a display piece and I like the motion from the turning gear. Reminds me of Tyler and Amy's final build on Lego Masters (US).

  17. They say FedEx on the inside, but I usually fold the paper in half before inserting, so it's mostly covered. It's FedEx colors, so there's not much doubt who the company is. But, I've never had anyone say anything about it, and not sure why they would.

  18. I just use the free blank sticker sheets from UPS. They're 8.5x11, 2 labels per sheet. They say "For UPS use only" on the edges but that's easily marked over or cut off. I also always put tape over the tracking code/bars. Keeps them safe from water/rain/liquid smearing vital information. I've never had a problem.

  25. Quill.com is the best I've found. Higher price per box but free shipping, and there's usually a great coupon code. One time I got a free blanket! And it was amazing, till my daughter threw up on it. Couldn't get that barf smell out and had to throw it away. Tough times.

  28. In my opinion, a precise scale only matters if you are shipping a lot of light packages, less than 1 lb for cheaper USPS First Class package rates and generally less than 4 lbs for the general line separating USPS Priority Mail from being cheaper than FedEx/UPS Ground rates. Even USPS First Class rates are split every 4 oz but the differences can add up quickly for a lot of packages where 1 oz makes a difference (e.g. up to $0.92 between 12 and 13 oz on a $5 charge). For large packages the dimensional weight charge will outweigh the actual weight since LEGO boxes are a lot of air. For example, I sent Amazon a 22x16x16 package of small sets and the actual weight of the box was 23 lbs but the UPS dimensional weight ending up being a charge of 30 lbs so being precise to a 1/10 ounce makes no difference.

  31. We use Endicia which gets you access to all USPS services with discounted rates including international. They also have optional insurance which is cheaper than USPS insurance and less of a hassle if you have to file a claim. And yes we also use a shipping scale. You can find one for ~$20.
