  1. Built the new 76898 Panasonic / Jaguar Speed Champions and I display the cars but not the figures. Enough figures piled up I decided to use the start/finish line to create a bit of a minifigure display. Turned out pretty nice!

  2. Accurate about what? I cannot suggest any US news site that is honest and doesn't spin. What I do know is CNN is all about making the situation sound worse than it is. That is how they get ratings and make money. Death count meters and graphics all day, every day? BREAKING NEWS every 5 minutes. Seriously. Did they do that for H1N1? No. Please, there will be no CNN promotion on this website.

  3. There was a time that everything Henry Ford needed to build a car was available in the State of Michigan. I am greatly dismayed at our country's inability to build paper masks during this time of need. I'm not talking about cars, or IPads, or even TVs...I am talking about a paper mask with a filter, a plastic/rubber flap/valve, and rubber bands.

  5. I wanted to create a new thread in order to give progress on my site updates. I want explain a bit on what happened and what I am doing. What happened with the site? Honestly nothing really exciting or dramatic, overall in the end, I did not want to support the host I was with for the past four years after not really offering too much help with managed servers. They would spend 30 seconds looking, say they can ping the server so its up and then just say, "hey not my problem". I was on aging hardware, paying the same amount of money, so I took the opportunity to move to a new host with better/faster hardware and a staff that does help to support you when run into an issue that you can't handle on your own. I have been doing this a long time and pretty good monitoring and handling 99% of what comes my way, but there are issues that you need the next level up to help figure out what to do. I wasn't getting anything like that, but paying for it. Not anymore. What my goal is... I know more than anyone that the site needed some TLC. It's been a while since I have done any drastic updates, the site looked tired and I know the site can be so much better than what it's current state was. LEGO investing has changed since Ed and I launched the site and it's time to remove the dead content and bring more of what people are looking for. Below is the short term list of items planned for updating. I have been working on the nightly, just like the early days and enjoying seeing parts of it coming to life. Fix the login. This has been messed up and quirky for a while. This has been resolved and working well. It's a simple thing overall, but nice that it actually works how it's supposed to Overall price guide site design update. The site was tired and disjointed. I hated it and pained me to look at it. Time to start over. Brickfolio update. All the Brickfolio data is safe. I have close to three million rows of data for Brickfolio entries. Time to bring this thing to 2020. I will probably create another thread at some point to solicit some feedback on some new requests for the brickfolio Fix the data syncing with Brickset. A lot of people used this feature, but it's time to make it work the way it should. Later I will work on the content portions. The news and blogs. I have some good ideas for this, but want to get the price guide and brickfolio to you sooner than later. What I am asking for if possible... If you can, please stop asking where the brickfolio is. Again, the data is safe and I am working as fast as I can to bring it all back to you. It won't be a few days, but more like a few weeks, but it will be worth it. I setup my dev environment to push releases quick and easy. I want to create a true changelog so that you can follow updates to see what was done/fixed/new/removed, you know like what real software companies do. I really do appreciate your patience with this. It wasn't planned, but if there was going to be a time to do it, it was going to be now.

  7. Pretty nice what this set has done over the past 3-4 weeks. Late Feb, early Mar these were going for about $75 shipped on Ebay and are now selling for $120-$150. With coronavirus shutting everything down, I wonder if SDCC gets shutdown this summer, will TLG be offering the exclusives that they had planned to sell there on someplace like Target or Walmart... Could be a great opportunity to watch out for.

  10. Please don't start with CNN. They are fear porn professionals. There is NO martial law. They are telling people to stay where they are. Too many affluent people are blowing out of NY to their shore homes in Long Island and NJ and to the Pocono mountains and Florida. There is a decent chance they are infected and will only make things worse.

  11. I can confirm the shortages of masks and similar protective devices. My sister is a nurse and is in charge of 80-100 home health aides. These nurses are responsible for hundreds of older, compromised or handicapped individuals. She said that it's a mess right now and many nurses ran out of masks and other items a week ago. Jaisonline stopped by my business the other day and I gave him 100 masks for his wife, who is a doctor in Philly. I was happy to help him, but I was so upset that these professionals cannot get the most basic items to protect them and to stop the spread of the virus. There is no reason why we are having these issues at this point with the companies this country has at its disposal.

  12. i have 2 children who have SMA and are ventilator dependent now for several years. once this started unfolding in January, i dropped several K to put in orders for a years worth of additional backup ventilator tubing along with hundreds of bags of sterile water on top of the supplies insurance provides along with all the other crap that goes with this just because i was concerned the supply line from china (which is where virtually all of this stuff is made) would dry up. fears were prescient as now the medical supply company who provides insurance-paid for supplies is having difficult time locating these for patients already on vents and is asking patients to lengthen the interval at which the tubing is changed and providing smaller bags of sterile water which have to be changed several times a day instead of the larger bags that would last 2-3 days. it's unfortunate that so much of the medical supply and pharmaceutical supply pipeline is outside the US.

  13. We have been going through our Facebook Marketplace find from last month and sorting all of the pieces into each individual set. Now we are finally to the stage of getting to do some building! First up: 10019 UCS Rebel Bloackade Runner, which was missing 0 pieces. We are a little over halfway finished. I did have to order a replacement sticker sheet, which is en route.

  15. 1. Always do immediate payment required, especially on expensive set 2. I set the automatic case opening to the minimum days (4 IIRC, its been a while). My account automatically opens nonpaying bidder case with eBay when that limit is passed. Then I would need to wait 3 more days for the buyer to respond. So 7 days (at least) to get my fees back + clear the item for relisting. Thus point #1

  18. Guys (and gals...) please take covid19 seriously. I understand that USA compared to UK / Europe /ROW has not yet conducted some measures which some would consider extreme ( I.e. mandatory lock downs, shutting down businesses etc) but things will go from bad to worse very soon due to the exponential effect of the virus. Please try to implement social distancing, washing hands etc. This is not scare mongering, I am not a doctor or medical person, but I think what some people are failing to understand is that once the hospitals get full of covid patients, they will refuse to treat other patients with non covid19 symptoms unless it is a emergency treatment. Already in europe, doctors are making choices to not treat over 60's / people with pre existing conditions and treating the younger patients due to them more likely to survive. It is true that statistically Covid19 may not be as fatal as previous flu's or diseases, but you need to throw the statistics out of the window once you realise that even a "healthy" person who could have survive covid19 previ6, may not survive now due to the hospitals running out of ICU beds for patients, running out of medical PPE, shortage of ventilators etc. It doesn't matter what the fatality rate if you cant treated.

  19. Grossly incorrect. This is not like a regular flu. As stated earlier, there is no existing immunity and a risk of the majority of people getting it. The hospitals don’t get overloaded and short of respirators for “regular flus”

  20. I think it's more context than numbers Let's say there's a school shooting and there are a lot of deaths That number of deaths is tiny compared to the number of children who die of hunger WHich one will creates the public outrage?

  21. Folks obviously like this set for investment, but what are resellers thinking in terms of reasonable buy-in price? is it good enough to stock up on just GWP? GWP plus double VIP pts? A least 20% off? wait till Black Friday 30%?
    1 point
  22. Because the regular flu is a known event with a great deal of immunity and won’t infect as many people. Some models predict anywhere from 30-70% of humanity will contract this virus this year. Nowhere near that catches the regular flu. Just look at how difficult it is for the health systems to cope with the small amount so far.
    1 point
  23. So this model predicts about 80,000 deaths from Coronavirus. I'm just wondering why people didn't make a bigger deal a year or two back about the regular flu? https://www.statnews.com/2018/09/26/cdc-us-flu-deaths-winter/

  24. Doing business with ToyCentric makes sense for most sellers. But, be sure that ToyCentric will have ZERO respect for your resource or feedback rating - based on their business model. They'll also use every angle and loophole to transfer their business problems to you - immediately. That's your exposure - the cost of doing business. Part of what makes Ebay work is the personal connection and pride of service that many users experience - ToyCentric does a phenomenal job of destroying these. The best way to protect yourself is to know exactly who and where ToyCentric is. As far as I can tell, it's one person - Michael Wimmer of Leander, TX. It's a huge advantage to open a direct and effective line of communication if problems arise. It's important to avoid vendor triage - 3rd party run-around when dealing with dropshippers. Just go straight to the source of the problem.

  27. Some folks to educate themselves about the media CNN is pretty far left. If they go any further, they will be fully left. Factual reporting has been mixed. Some online talent is worse than others like Cooper. Not only does Cooper look like he's holding a fart 24x7, he's awful at reporting facts. https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/cnn/ Fox News is pretty much at the Right. Factual reporting has been mixed. https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/fox-news/ look for media sources that are least biased. https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/factcheck/ at the very least, go for a reputable paper / web site that might mean left or right but report facts (just sift through the author opinions in each article). Insert Washington Post here and similar here.

  28. All I know is that concept of Schengen is about to go bye bye with Germany, Belgium, etc reintroducing border control thanks to Covid19. Just like every other globalization ideas, all good and dandy during peace time, but it is the least anyone wants during a crisis. But again, the Shengen is not a fair comparison to the US as each EU country still have autonomy to act as an independent country, just as your own example of Czech Republic. Clearly the way Czech handle the virus is completely different than Italy. US is 1 country with a vast territory. By the way, any comment on those faulty Covid test kits from China? https://news.yahoo.com/china-supplied-faulty-coronavirus-test-162306412.html

  29. My wife is a stay a home mom and is a pretty good cook and the kids aren't too picky. Luckily almost everything is available in our neck of the woods, and what is not, can be easily substituted for something . We try to minimize the shopping trips to one every two weeks .

  30. how are folks dealing w/ meals while presumably shelter-in-place? My household has 2 fridges stocked so we've been cooking own meals for about 2 weeks now. it sucks. But I figure safer than getting food delivered...no telling how sanitary the food is...businesses are so desperate that I can easily see a manager turning a blind eye to a sick employee.

  31. Yeah, you don't seem to know alot about how things here work yet always seem to have an opinion. Stop it with the political crap, pretty sure we were all warned. 350,000 infected??? You do realize that's not that many and more then likely we already have many times that infected.

  32. I have two kids who suffer from CP and with that comes an underdeveloped immune system, so every day when I come back from work , I need to undergo a thorough cleaning before I interact with the kids, and even with that you cant but help worry if that is a sound thing to do. You see pictures of all these doctors and nurses camping in their own garage and something that seemed to be a crazy thought just 4 weeks ago, looks like a smart idea all of a sudden.

  33. Sorry but most of those CEO's have no idea whats going on in China other then what their being fed by the Chinese. Same with the news org. that you listed, most of them are full of crap anyways. Considering China is the one that made light of it in the beginning, why anyone should trust them now is foolish. Hassle of a Constitution? What the actual hell????
    1 point
  34. i agree that you have to be skeptical to the communists but numerous reports in last 7 days on cnbc, bloomberg, wsj from multiple US CEOs all saying china has this under control as they reopen their stores and restaurants. unless you're going to say CEO of Starbucks and Apple are communist party tools. i also have a healthy bit of skepticism of US government that continues to not recommend wearing a mask to avoid getting infected from a respiratory virus unless you are around someone who has the virus. but how do you know the person next to you in the grocery store doesn't have the virus? the actual reason to not recommend the mask is because there simply aren't enough masks to protect the entire population and health care professionals. that doesn't mean you can't take steps to protect yourself despite what the government is telling you. it just means they don't want to cause a panic. N95 masks do help prevent transmission but there's not enough now so they tell us not to bother - total BS. i have gone through N95 fitting for my job and it is not a complicated process to get your mask fitted to your face though it would be tough to test it under the hood at your house. still, for tasks like going out to the store to get groceries, i can't imagine why you wouldn't wear a mask if you have one to protect yourself and others given how widespread this is becoming. meanwhile in china where PPE shortages were not an issue, you get arrested or even assaulted by your fellow citizens for going out in public without a mask on. i go to the grocery store i am literally the only person wearing a mask now. 2 nursing homes in town have covid outbreaks. i wonder how many staff members at those nursing homes shop at the grocery store?

  47. My reason is that online retailers here in Canada do a **** job packaging, especially larger sets. Recently ~80% of the (single) sets I've ordered have been put in boxes that were way too large with maybe 3 or 4 airbags thrown in for "protection". About half of those orders are delivered with the set having a crushed or punctured box. Hopefully by ordering a quantity that comes in a factory shipping box will result in them just slapping a shipping label on it and sending it off properly packaged.
