  1. If we can for one moment disregard logic for actual scientific fact, social distancing is viral containment 101, one of the first steps necessary to slow/stop the spreading/incident rate. This has been known for centuries. Interesting to see how many people are more concerned about the economy than the spread. If there was a calm, calculated approach to such a crisis, then panic/recession talk would be more limited than they are now. This has basically been a global practice run for any virus with a real threat. If we were to be grading that effort, it would be a solid, capitalized, F. Big time failure when nations are putting the ecomony/politics ahead of Human health. A lot of people seem to have the attitude since they are not the demographic affected, then why care? There is a big difference between being prepared and acting calm in the face of adversity. Also, no one can say that the next virus wont prefer kids or old people, but humans that are relatively healthy between 25-60. Classic NIMBY thinking that leads to the chaos we see. As a nation, we should have responded immediately without care for what the reaction may do to investors sentiments. That is just the scientist in me. rant over.

  7. You may want to consider reassessing your delivery and subject matter when practicing comedy. Looking through all your posts in this thread equate to the reading/writing level of a 5th grader. If you want to contribute, why not be productive?! I dont think anyone here thinks there is a government/nation out there more powerful than a virus. If you do, I have land on the moon to sell ya. What I AM saying is, the first confirmed case is being traced back to mid-Nov. Its obviously too much to ask to not LIE about a potential Epidemic/Pandemic. One of the greatest faults was allowing the Chinese New Year festivals to still take place. Then, We, the US, allowed people back in the country. Then our president lied, 'repeatedly' about the situation. All of this lying to protect profits, shareholders, wallstreet, etc, eventually effects us 'common' folk the most. What a time we live in when capitalism is more important than public health.

  10. On a semi-related note - I want to thank all of the moderators & participants at Brickpicker. There are very few places online these days where commenting on ANYTHING doesn't devolve into name calling & general ass-holery, and this is one of them. Kudos to this community.

  11. I wanted to create a new thread in order to give progress on my site updates. I want explain a bit on what happened and what I am doing. What happened with the site? Honestly nothing really exciting or dramatic, overall in the end, I did not want to support the host I was with for the past four years after not really offering too much help with managed servers. They would spend 30 seconds looking, say they can ping the server so its up and then just say, "hey not my problem". I was on aging hardware, paying the same amount of money, so I took the opportunity to move to a new host with better/faster hardware and a staff that does help to support you when run into an issue that you can't handle on your own. I have been doing this a long time and pretty good monitoring and handling 99% of what comes my way, but there are issues that you need the next level up to help figure out what to do. I wasn't getting anything like that, but paying for it. Not anymore. What my goal is... I know more than anyone that the site needed some TLC. It's been a while since I have done any drastic updates, the site looked tired and I know the site can be so much better than what it's current state was. LEGO investing has changed since Ed and I launched the site and it's time to remove the dead content and bring more of what people are looking for. Below is the short term list of items planned for updating. I have been working on the nightly, just like the early days and enjoying seeing parts of it coming to life. Fix the login. This has been messed up and quirky for a while. This has been resolved and working well. It's a simple thing overall, but nice that it actually works how it's supposed to Overall price guide site design update. The site was tired and disjointed. I hated it and pained me to look at it. Time to start over. Brickfolio update. All the Brickfolio data is safe. I have close to three million rows of data for Brickfolio entries. Time to bring this thing to 2020. I will probably create another thread at some point to solicit some feedback on some new requests for the brickfolio Fix the data syncing with Brickset. A lot of people used this feature, but it's time to make it work the way it should. Later I will work on the content portions. The news and blogs. I have some good ideas for this, but want to get the price guide and brickfolio to you sooner than later. What I am asking for if possible... If you can, please stop asking where the brickfolio is. Again, the data is safe and I am working as fast as I can to bring it all back to you. It won't be a few days, but more like a few weeks, but it will be worth it. I setup my dev environment to push releases quick and easy. I want to create a true changelog so that you can follow updates to see what was done/fixed/new/removed, you know like what real software companies do. I really do appreciate your patience with this. It wasn't planned, but if there was going to be a time to do it, it was going to be now.

  12. Couple quick comments/notes. As most of you have seen from my posts I'm not any more concerned about this virus then the flu or cold personally but you can't deny the impact it's having globally on both panicky people and more important the health care systems. That being said: If possible stock up on gas, diesel, and propane if you can. I'm on several forums that honestly are more accurate and faster with news and info then any other source I've ever seen and just based on what several people have said that work the industry we are very close to some serious fuel issues due to shutdowns and cutbacks on production regardless of oil prices. Also, not sure what some of you are seeing and going back to Brickolodon complaining about sales but the last week+ have been one of my busiest time-frames outside a holiday in a very long time. Everything to small pieces orders to large expensive sets and to numerous countries outside the USA.

  13. The "logic" you are trying to establish here is just too hard to comprehend. Following facts: 1. There is a magazine which is mostly owned by rich families. 2. In 1988 the magazine published a prediction that there will be a new world currency. 3. I didnt find any source for the black cover, but okay lets assume thats correct. Because of one prediction of a magazine mostly owned by rich families which was correct and a black cover you say its dooms day in 2020.... That is just a whack conspiracy.

  20. It wasn't all just screw ups. There was a strong urge to cover this up and hide the numbers (such as not adding the cruise ship numbers) so that it wouldn't affect the stock market. That, or to try not to panic people but it may have been better to meet the challenge head on.

  22. The problem with this pandemic won't be the virus, it'll be the people going crazy. Imagine being in your house 2-3 months with no permission to leave. China & Italy are already there, who says it won't happen to us all? I wonder what sick laws the governments will push through taking advantage of this "global crisis". Everything is possible at this point.

  37. The important part now is slowing the spread as the virus works its way through the population. I can’t believe that most companies in large metro areas have not instituted work at home orders. We’re mere weeks from overwhelming our hospitals with cases as this is just the tip of the iceberg. Have they even shut down schools in Washington state yet? On average, hospitals in the US run at 87% capacity so it’s simple math folks.

  38. Leadership only goes so far. Any president only has so much control. Although a simple thing that could have been done by the Feds and the president was just asking anyone who was in a hotspot outside the US to notify authorities. How about checking visas and travel logs? People have to use their brains and there have been way too many screw ups by professionals that should know better.

  40. And all that is great and great habits for your children to develop. All I am saying is that the kindergartner who went to lunch before older children with better hygiene habits that sneezed or coughed all over the silverware in the lunch line may not have the same habits as your children, but yours get sick from them regardless. It is a long known fact that viruses and bacteria and lice spread proficiently through the school systems, preschools and daycare.

  41. You are right, it can be transmitted from anyone to anyone... but have you seen how gross most kids can be? They pick their nose, don't cover their mouths when they cough, scratch their butts, etc... and very few wash their hands properly, too excited to move on to the next thing. Combine that with the fact that most kids hug their friends at school daily (at least my girl does). These kids are in very close contact daily, sharing crayons and glue... I don't know how many times I have had to tell my daughter to quit swapping hair scrunchies with her friends at school. So yes, if everyone did these things on a daily basis then they should stay home to try to help contain an outbreak.

  42. There are no real safety precautions for the test itself. It's a swab that can be done safely in any doctors office. The hangup was with having to send the samples off to labs to actually analyze them.

  43. Does anyone have an opinion on the Star Wars Boy's Briefs? I know they're just another rehash, but do you think there's a window for a short term flip? Does anyone remember what the price was on Black Friday? I was going to say $9.99, but that might have just been a 3 Pack. They're an impressive value for wearables, but I'm not sure of the long/short term investment value.

  45. I'm very excited about the possibilities here. Huge Lego fan, huge old-school NES fan, my two favorite things from childhood coming together? A dream! I'd be interested in full sets, brickheadz, whatever. I know Mario and Nintendo have a wide audience but I really hope they don't go the 4+ route like they did with the Toy Story 4 sets. Would love a Super Mario 64 castle D2C set. Probably too similar to the Disney castle though. Man this is overall exciting news
