On a semi-related note - I want to thank all of the moderators & participants at Brickpicker. There are very few places online these days where commenting on ANYTHING doesn't devolve into name calling & general ass-holery, and this is one of them. Kudos to this community.12 points

THIS is THE "basic disclaimer message (chart)" nearly ALL media reports are missing to convey fundamentally - thus creating the panic that helped the stock market crash (congratulations btw., you idiot journalistst)!: Corona IS NOT dramatically lethal or otherwise overly dangerous to a human being. It's just that authorities need to SLOW IT DOWN while spreading, so the healthcare system can HANDLE it - so it's ONLY about the numbers of people needing to be treated at the same time to get healthy again. Yet, all they achieved was to scare people and make the stock market crash - causing much more global economic damage than a fast-spreading virus could ever have done. That's just great. But maybe rational explanations would not have worked for the majority, I admit that. Maybe you dont get average dumb Joe's attention with rationality but only by scaring him. Which would mean that there would never have been a "good way" to handle this whole crisis, because people either dont listen or are too stupid to understand.3 points

I wanted to create a new thread in order to give progress on my site updates. I want explain a bit on what happened and what I am doing. What happened with the site? Honestly nothing really exciting or dramatic, overall in the end, I did not want to support the host I was with for the past four years after not really offering too much help with managed servers. They would spend 30 seconds looking, say they can ping the server so its up and then just say, "hey not my problem". I was on aging hardware, paying the same amount of money, so I took the opportunity to move to a new host with better/faster hardware and a staff that does help to support you when run into an issue that you can't handle on your own. I have been doing this a long time and pretty good monitoring and handling 99% of what comes my way, but there are issues that you need the next level up to help figure out what to do. I wasn't getting anything like that, but paying for it. Not anymore. What my goal is... I know more than anyone that the site needed some TLC. It's been a while since I have done any drastic updates, the site looked tired and I know the site can be so much better than what it's current state was. LEGO investing has changed since Ed and I launched the site and it's time to remove the dead content and bring more of what people are looking for. Below is the short term list of items planned for updating. I have been working on the nightly, just like the early days and enjoying seeing parts of it coming to life. Fix the login. This has been messed up and quirky for a while. This has been resolved and working well. It's a simple thing overall, but nice that it actually works how it's supposed to Overall price guide site design update. The site was tired and disjointed. I hated it and pained me to look at it. Time to start over. Brickfolio update. All the Brickfolio data is safe. I have close to three million rows of data for Brickfolio entries. Time to bring this thing to 2020. I will probably create another thread at some point to solicit some feedback on some new requests for the brickfolio Fix the data syncing with Brickset. A lot of people used this feature, but it's time to make it work the way it should. Later I will work on the content portions. The news and blogs. I have some good ideas for this, but want to get the price guide and brickfolio to you sooner than later. What I am asking for if possible... If you can, please stop asking where the brickfolio is. Again, the data is safe and I am working as fast as I can to bring it all back to you. It won't be a few days, but more like a few weeks, but it will be worth it. I setup my dev environment to push releases quick and easy. I want to create a true changelog so that you can follow updates to see what was done/fixed/new/removed, you know like what real software companies do. I really do appreciate your patience with this. It wasn't planned, but if there was going to be a time to do it, it was going to be now.2 points

Italy is in a bad way. The main reason could be is that they have the 5th oldest median age in the world, with over 20% of their population over 65.2 points

A few thoughts... About the 30 year old Wuhan doctor that died...Sometimes there are anomalies. From what I read, sometimes repeated exposure to this or any virus can wreak havoc on the immune system. This man was on the front lines and was exposed numerous times most likely. In NJ, the first person died today. He was 69, with numerous prior health issues. We also found out that there are two known cases in my county(Burlington) which they said hopefully they found early. NYC is bringing in the National Guard to help mitigate a hot spot. I appreciate the effort. The governor of NY seems like he has control of the situation. He is even producing his own hand sanitizer for NYC. That is what this is all about. Local people figuring it out and working together. I think the hype or "scare" tactics will help in a lot of ways. It will make people think about where they go and how to stay clean and disinfected. It will also slow the infection rates down, which is what our health care system needs to deal with this. From a political standpoint, I am growing very, very tired of what is going on in Washington. These fools need to work together and come up with solutions...both parties. The spin from both sides is only hurting the situation. I am on the front lines of small business owners that will need help for myself and my workers if we have to shut down for 2-3 weeks. I am one of many in the same boat. We are the backbone of this country and until our politicians deal with reality and the "regular Joes and Janes" of the world, people will fear the worst. While people are worried about their health, they are just as worried about paying the bills.2 points

Walmart MSRP. It's been that price at Walmart since it appeared on the site. These were $20 Black Friday is others mentioned. You were thinking of 11005. @odysea11 was talking about 110112 points

MSRP MSRP is $60 on this set. I picked one up for the kids and its a good value. Big box, zillions of a bits. Maybe not a home run for AFOLs, but, these big 1,500 piece boxes tend to do well if you can get them cheap enough. $35 ain't bad.2 points

I think people need to focus on protecting the older and ill. We all have them in our families and some of the spin of this virus just blows off the older people like it's OK. Not cool.2 points

I'm not trying to pick on you, but what is your experience in production of any of these items? I don't have any, but I'm guessing it's harder than just pressing "Buy Now". What if these companies guessed wrong and over produced something no one wanted or it was discovered that there was simple cure for the disease and it ended up being nothing. You have the advantage of hindsight, but since this was so easy to see coming, I'm assuming you have plenty of hand sanitizer, face masks, and TP?1 point

I think we all want our government officials to act like the adults here. Unfortunately, that always doesn't seem so.1 point

Indeed, but I did call the POTUS a specific type of baked, delicious snack, so it was my own fault initially for Alpine having to step in. But yes, Im glad I could create this and have it still stick around this long. I think it helps balance out the information on the site. We obviously have differing viewpoints as members on here so its nice to hear others opinion in respectable ways. On topic: Our company will be closed on Thursday as a precaution, to test the VPN and access to working from home. Note, we are located in NC, of which there are only 7 confirmed cases.1 point

The market dropped 50% in 2008 and people were still going to conferences, flying, staying in hotels, etc. Yes, it will recover, but I think we're at the very beginning of the drop. There will unfortunately be layoffs and revised earnings for many companies.1 point

It is very easy for LEGO to create a Mario Kart line. Think about it. All they have to do is replace those Friends minidolls with Mario, Peach, etc minifigures1 point

because "avg joe know nothing" have the power to crash a multi-trillion dollar stock market??? the market was due for a correction for years now...longest bull market in history only "elderly" are at risk..guess what...the "elderly" ...otherwise known as "baby boomers" have been controlling this country for the past generation panic? what panic...it's perception...think about it...when the LEGO clearance rack at Walmart gets wiped out...exactly how many individuals were the cause...judging by this forum maybe 1 or 2..it's resellers wiping out the shelves...no one is sitting on cases of masks and hand sanitizer expecting to use them personally I'm not saying there's no panic and that the media isn't sensationalizing this; but there are a lot of other factors at play here then just the masses panicking1 point

No, it's really not up for any interpretation. Now being "honest" is another story. I don't rely on most mainstream US news sources for sole information anyways as pretty much all of them anymore have their own agenda.1 point
-
xactly, the US "news" has the perception of being more "free" but I think that's up for interpretation...Trump recently said he didn't want the Cruise ship on the CA coastline to dock because he didn't want the numbers to double of "US confirmed cases" 🙄 I did remember reading something (regarding cases of fatalities from younger Patients) from a doctor who treated severe cases in Wuhan..he said in hindsight, he would have treated more aggressively using invasive mechanical respirators because prolong use of non-invasive (I think he means steroidal) options caused patients health to deteliorate.1 point

Peak 90's Lego nostalgia in that pile right there: Blacktron II, M-Tron, Ice Planet, Castle, System Pirates, Paradisa (6416), Fire Boat (4031), Model Team Sea Jet1 point

20% discount on stocks right now, if one believes the market was actually true to value. I see another 10% drop into bear territory. If in for 10+ years, it's getting to be an excellent time to invest more. Or re-finance your home.1 point

I see some 6090 pieces in there. If that is all there it could easily cover the entire cost of your purchase. Nice find.1 point

The stormtrooper is not being done any favors by the angle displayed on the front of the box. I like the Boba Fett, however. Maybe this will increase demand for the Darth Vader bust for people that have those.1 point

No one “needs” any of these items. Hand sanitizer is ineffective along with wipes compared to soap and hand washing which is readily available. If one has an interest in making their own hand sanitizer they can easily do so with a bottle of aloe Vera and rubbing alcoholic. These are luxury items that provide consumers with a salve against reality. We’re going to likely see further supply chain disruptions and hoarding soon. A lack of artificial ingredients like fake sweetener is going to impact the supply of diet soda. That’s going to drive up the price once supply drops. This is simply supply and demand economics and Amazon and eBay don’t want the bad publicity that strays outside of their own market manipulation.1 point

Jeff is working on it along with many other things. I think some folks need to remember, our owners & mods have lives outside of brickpicker. we have spouses, kids , regular jobs, houses, etc... this is also a free web site, so jeff and ed don't have hired workers "standing ready to go" to work on items when they can't. That's why folks should use the brickfolio export feature often. The good news is that no data is lost. It's all there. Just give Jeff as much time as he needs.1 point
-
Yes what Ed said is right. I am working on it and I am taking the time to address the issues it's been having as well. I will get the Brickfolio back to everyone as soon as I can, but as I just said, i am taking the time to FIX it as well.1 point
