  2. I think a person is making a poor choice when there is an opportunity to buy a couple weeks worth of non-perishable items and doesn't. Chance you are quaranteed in your home for two weeks, small. Chance you can use your items you bought later this year after nothing happened, 100%

  3. It’s funny that you say that. I have been sick with the flu twice this year already. I would be categorized as a healthy person in their early 40’s (41), and I have never gotten the flu twice in the span of two months . I wonder if the virus hit NY, and people are confusing it with the regular flu.

  7. It seems acknowledging mistakes is in short supply in today's political climate. A simple "my bad" or "I'm sorry" or "I was wrong and will correct it" goes a long way. Personally, I am very tired of it and going forward, I expect more from all of these politicians and news agencies. It's always about the "gotcha" moment. Very few adults without an agenda in charge of the country and news that sways public opinion.

  8. I don't want this to end up as a political piece. It is an unfortunate situation that is not the fault of any president or politician. This will be dealt with by regular Americans and people from around the world. Regardless of your political affiliation, I think the president handled himself much better with today's press conference and focused more on the virus than the stock market and himself. He has some quality people working with him that are experienced in dealing with situations like this. People need to stop the political rhetoric and work together. Period.

  9. Basically what Trump (and many doctors) were saying: wash your hands. But I agree not testing somebody who got sick after coming back from Japan for Coronavirus was just beyond idiotic

  10. The jokes on this thread are meant to bring a little levity to a serious situation. Nothing more. No doubt there has been some serious lapses with handing of possibly infected people and red tape that needs to be worked out. It seems that everything just takes a lot of time to implement, from the funding to implementation of procedures. I have dozens of friends that are in the law enforcement business, from FBI agents to US Marshalls to local police and none of them seem concerned of a major issue right now. So either they are woefully unprepared or know something that I don't. The next month or so will tell a lot.

  11. Thank you for sharing this! It shows logical thought and concern by an individual compatriot and medical professionals, and complete incompetence by CDC and leadership, plain as day! Also it shows how harsh a virus this is even for a healthy person. We have no idea what long term damage is done to those recovered and what will happen in the future if this becomes, like the flu, a virus that circulates the globe in perpetuity. The jokes on this thread will likely age very poorly.A person with symptoms who recently arrived from Japan was not test for the virus on February 27, 2020. That’s about all we need to know to determine how leadership is handling this.

  15. Is it just me, or is anyone else struck by just how prominent the Colosseum is in the box art for the Fiat. Certainly, with the Fiat being Italian, one can justify putting the car in front of essentially any Italian landmark. I just wonder if this might be a bit of foreshadowing, the way they do with some of the Star Wars UCS sets.

  16. I think the externalities will be pretty big in terms of economy and social life. Even with a death rate of 1/500 under 40, you have to wonder if you would take the risk of going to work or letting your kid go to school. Imagine a company having to choose between closing down the offices when the opposite it that 1 out of 250 of their employees might die as a result of it. I stocked up on food because I think a lot of things will be shut down.

  18. Case in point - one of my Dutch friends just told me that he has an italian colleague (in NL) who had a friend over 2 weeks ago who got sick during his stay (he was from affected area in Italy). Shortly after all the friends he met with got sick. Nobody went to the doctor to get tested for coronavirus - they just let it run its course. There will be many more cases like this - this disease is all around us, all we are hearing are the folks who got too sick to handle on their own, and then the people that got preventatively tested because of that.

  19. Good points...I suspect that it's widespread, we just don't know how to test for it. I bet some Americans have already had it and recovered without knowing.

  20. The biggest thing anyone could have done to keep this from spreading from there to here was to stop travel in/out - this was done very early. This move was largely condemned by the media as being an act of racism, which would only lead to more xenophobia. Not having done that early would have been more damaging to the people of our country than any decision that could be made going forward.
