  1. It's been a weird couple years for us. I think I suffered through a lego investor/collector burnout (literally). In late 2016, the town I was living in had a catastrophic wildfire, burned half the town down but fortunately, our home survived - but the aftermath of the event left me altered. We could have lost everything that day. I was sitting on way too many investment boxes and collectibles that could have went up in flames. Instead that day changed my perspective on life, and I literally have sold out a lot of the collectables over the last few years only keeping what we consider the good stuff (mostly large star wars and UCS sets, and my sons jurassic world sets). Watching all my neighbors and some friends lose everything put a lot of crap into perspective. Well, finally, after a few years where my only lego purchase was UCS snowspeeder (last year), which we still haven't built. We woke up out of our slumber, a little bit. Yesterday, I went to a walmart, and sure enough, it was like DEJA VU - and I couldn't pass up the discounted Jurassic world 2 sets sitting there at 1/2 price off. So picked up the Stygimoloch Breakout set (16.00), Blue's Helicopter Pursuit (19.00), Dilophosaurus Outpost (32.00). And some Star Wars sets (Rey's Pasaana Speeder Chase (32), and found Kylo Ren's shutttle at a Fred Meyer for 112.00. Will admit the new Kylo Ren shuttle puts the old one to shame. Kinda glad we sold that old one from our collection a year ago.

  2. Glad I kept one OFS to build! Much more enjoyable than expected. I'm definitely going to keep it in my collection.

  3. As a build over Christmas with my youngest we finished Treebeard (with some modifications to Jason Allemann's original design to fit Pippin and Merry). Jasons only used parts came from a (crushed box) 10236 but we ended up adding a few other types of foilage. Still planning to sort out the face a bit, but overall we are really happy with it. A great build and one we'll keep and have a case built for.

  4. Finished this fun build. I was very impressed with the techniques used and the overall look of the finished models, especially the T. rex. Now on to this one...finally!

  5. I felt more for the end of IG-11 and Kulil than Luke in ep8. FU RJ !!!

  6. Two recent builds: 1. Hogwarts Great Hall (expanded using 2 sets - but only pieces from the sets, no add-ons). Was fairly straight-forward to do. Increased width and height. 2. Fully enclosed Hagrid's Hut (using 2 sets, no additional pieces). This one was a bit more tricky, as it I had to make the bases hexagonal to keep the shape of the huts.

  7. Built one of many UCS Star Wars ships that I have in storage. Felt good to actually display it. Stand is from WickedBrick.

  8. Ninjago docks seems to be taking a similar course. Please everybody sell, sell, sell. I'd love to be the last guy with ten of these bad boys.

  9. The succinct Kurosawa-esque man-comes-to-town vignettes proved less dialogue is more. To wit: They waited till chapter 8 to provide character exposition (names, pre-ROTJ backstories) that Lucas would've shat out of the mouth of C3PO the second R2 asked who they were at first meeting. There is deliberate, trusting patience being shown in the audience here. It was astounding and redemptive. A+.

  10. Loved the season finale! I was truly sad to see IG-11 die (yes, I know he's not technically alive but it still hurt). I really hope they introduce another IG unit next season although it will have some big (driod) shoes to fill.

  12. About to start this big boy. No numbered bags?! Old school technic time I guess. Just noticed I got two identical sticker sheets. Anyone else built this know if that's standard?

  13. Funny thing. My 13 year old is very interested in architecture and was ecstatic when he heard there was going to be a Dubai Skyline set. His observations mirrored yours almost verbatim once he finished building the set. He also agreed that Burj Al Arab was his favorite portion of the build, although he was dreading it initially.

  14. Yep. I’m pretty sure he calculated the odds.

  15. I think I would take it better if he was replacing this hobby with something better than Pokemon. All he does is sit there and stare at those stupid cards all day.

  16. IG probably determined that saving the others was key to the child's long term survival, so rescuing them made sense. It couldn't leave the child behind undefended, so keeping it close was keeping it safe.

  18. A year later, a busier setup, and an additional messy kid. Baby #3 due in March, Boy #3. At this rate all those Elves sets I have set aside for "future girl" are going to end up on Amazon. Will give it another try in a few years.

  19. Built the gwp tree and motorized my train last night. The tree is great, much nicer than the short fattie that comes with the toy shop. Train runs smooth when the cats are not smacking it off the rails.

  20. My eight year old decided he's done with Lego and would like to put all of his sets away. He's bagging them up as I type, and this is hitting me harder than I thought it would.
