  2. I can believe this. I've taken pictures of "Retiring Soon" tags on sets at the LEGO store and other exclusives surrounding them have retired sooner. You almost get the impression that the circle covers up the "er rather than later" remaining portion of the message.

  4. We are within 1 month of San Diego Comic Con 2019. Time to start a thread to talk about anything/everything regarding the show. I will be in attendance once again, and, wife willing, attending all 4 days plus preview night this year (3 of which I'll have my kids in tow).

  6. The cutoff has been raised again and is now $132,900 You only pay up to the cutoff. This includes your normal wages, and self employment income. So if your normal income is 100k, and your self employment income is 50k, you pay the on the first $32,900 of your self employment for the social security tax. You pay the medicare tax for every penny though. In 2017 your taxes were done wrong, and you should send an amended form correcting that. Or you could just take the advice I was given when starting this journey. (not recommended):

  9. Amazon won’t help you out if you don’t approve the return . Customer might file a AZ and keep the item for free . Just send them a pre paid and that will cover your butt against that . Customer can ask for a rerun for any and no reason what so ever . Since they stated it is defective you need to provide a prepaid label . Once received you assess your options. Don’t refund until received .

  10. you still have to approve the return if it is within the 30 days window. Once received , examine then take it from there. You can withhold up to 50% and file a Safe-t claim for remainder.

  11. All about counterfeit books being sold on Amazon from today’s NYT. Wonder if this means they will tighten the reigns further? https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/23/technology/amazon-domination-bookstore-books.html “Mr. Kelly spent hours writing responses to customers who complained about their copies but didn’t realize they had counterfeits. He tried tracking down the source of the fakes and attempted to communicate with Amazon. Eventually he wrote to the retailer’s founder, Jeff Bezos, saying, “Amazon is knowingly and willfully fulfilling most orders for our title with counterfeits that may contain errors leading to injury or death of their patients.” Mr. Kelly got a response two weeks later from “Raj,” a member of “the Amazon Seller Performance team.” Raj said that an unnamed third-party seller had been barred from selling the book but that the seller might now appeal directly to AMT, and that if the company wanted to retract the whole thing, here was what to do.” Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker Forum

  15. I'll let my wife attempt this one, she loves this sort of stuff: price discrepancies & dealing with customer service. Not my cup of tea. I'd do it if this were the set of my dreams but not for Toy Story 4.

  17. Slow seller and over priced. Just a tactic used to induce sales. This set needs to be at least 60% off before I’d even consider buying it for resale.

  23. I think this "D2C complaint checklist" (by Brickset user ccc) deserves a sticky somewhere on this forum Direct To Consumer set complaint checklist by ccc. Does it contain a vehicle alongside a main build? Yes - complain that it contains a vehicle, and that those parts should have been in the main model instead of wasted on a vehicle. No - complain that it should have contained a vehicle, and that unnecessary parts hidden in the main model would have been better used in this valuable addition. Does it have play features? Yes - complain that it contains play features, the design could have been improved without messing it up for play features. No - complain that it doesn't contain play features, you cannot do anything with it apart from display it as it is. Does it cost too much? Yes - complain that it is too expensive and would have sold better if they had made it more affordable. No - complain that they could have done a much better job if they had upped the budget and included more parts in the design. Does it have unique minifigures? Yes - complain that it has unique minifigures and that it is unfair to put unique minifigures in expensive sets as it forces people to buy sets they don't want just for the minifigures. No - complain that a set this size really should have unique minifigures as a selling point. Has a similar design been on IDEAS? Yes - complain that LEGO designers ripped off the design on IDEAS. No - complain that nobody wanted this set, they should have done something more like the one on IDEAS. Is it licensed? Yes - complain that they should have done it as an in-house theme as they would have had more freedom over the design and characters. No - complain that they should have done this as a licensed set to make more sales and to bring out minifigures of (insert licensed characters here).

  25. You can deduct all the expenses that went into selling. Don’t forget shipping supplies. You can also deduct credit card interest if applicable. I also deduct part of my utilities (Internet primarily) and expense part of my computer since I primarily use it for eBay. I even have a dedicated shipping computer that is 100% expensed as well as the printer and toner I use with it. I don’t deduct my home office. Here’s why: you can only really deduct and save so much from your home office. But, once you treat that square footage as a business expense, it will be difficult to convert that back to a non-business asset when you get out of selling on eBay. And as a business asset, you do not get the write off of any gains if you sell your home for that portion of the house. So, if your home has gone up in value, the taxes on the equity you’ve gained may be more than you would ever save as writing it off as a business asset. btw, income tax is easy. The tricky bit is if you have to file sales tax to your state. For example, in California, you have to register with the state board of equalization and submit sales tax on a annual schedule based on your sales amount. And when you do, that often triggers the county or city you live in to check your business license status and they will ask you ever politely to get a license. If you haven’t collected sales tax, at least many states will let you deduct the sales tax you paid when acquiring the sets towards the sales tax you should have collected. And if you shipped out of state primarily, that can bring the amounted owed to zero. At least that’s how it has worked every year for me. Although it’s still a pain to have to itemize every set and whether or not it was sold in or out of state and how much sales tax was paid on it originally. Also be prepared for self employment tax (social security x2 since you are employee plus employer) and Medicare taxes. And your LEGO profits will be taxed at your marginal tax bracket as additional ordinary income. It’s good you are asking. If you have good documentation and do everything by the book, it’ll take time, but it’s not terribly complicated. I use turbo tax and have never needed a professional. But I also did lots of research into the tax laws and keep meticulous details of my purchases and sales in a spreadsheet that I update on each transaction. I then create a new spreadsheet every year that has all of my itemized paypal transactions — so that the figure PayPal sends to the IRS is fully accounted for.
