  1. I think this "D2C complaint checklist" (by Brickset user ccc) deserves a sticky somewhere on this forum Direct To Consumer set complaint checklist by ccc. Does it contain a vehicle alongside a main build? Yes - complain that it contains a vehicle, and that those parts should have been in the main model instead of wasted on a vehicle. No - complain that it should have contained a vehicle, and that unnecessary parts hidden in the main model would have been better used in this valuable addition. Does it have play features? Yes - complain that it contains play features, the design could have been improved without messing it up for play features. No - complain that it doesn't contain play features, you cannot do anything with it apart from display it as it is. Does it cost too much? Yes - complain that it is too expensive and would have sold better if they had made it more affordable. No - complain that they could have done a much better job if they had upped the budget and included more parts in the design. Does it have unique minifigures? Yes - complain that it has unique minifigures and that it is unfair to put unique minifigures in expensive sets as it forces people to buy sets they don't want just for the minifigures. No - complain that a set this size really should have unique minifigures as a selling point. Has a similar design been on IDEAS? Yes - complain that LEGO designers ripped off the design on IDEAS. No - complain that nobody wanted this set, they should have done something more like the one on IDEAS. Is it licensed? Yes - complain that they should have done it as an in-house theme as they would have had more freedom over the design and characters. No - complain that they should have done this as a licensed set to make more sales and to bring out minifigures of (insert licensed characters here).

  6. I read the article and found the assumptions being made about negativity from the AFOL community puzzling. To be clear, what I've seen in discussion about the set and other D2C releases is criticism, not blanket negativity. Most of the critical commentary is be apt and to the point, identifying and focusing on long standing issues with D2C sets from price, design, scale, etc. This isn't belly aching. This isn't whining. This isn't negativity from the AFOL community--this is a community's persistent attempt to address issues with releases The LEGO group in turn repeatedly ignores.

  10. Haven’t felt the urge to build in a few months (running a BL store can do that to you from time to time), but now i’m ready to get the whole new space theme. Gotta love how polybags bring you right back in.

  11. I found two of these sets in the wild today - if anyone completely whiffed and wants one for a personal build, one of the boxes is beat up enough that I wouldn't send it to Amazon. I'd be willing to help another BPer out at cost, shoot me a PM.

  18. Yknow..since coming out of my cave...the one thing I never got was how big of a deal Minifigures were... In terms of nostalgia...I have been all about the set builds cuz I don;t remember ever caring much about the MFs...and lets be honest...back then there wasn't much to care about. But as I I became more AFOL and less nostalgic...I have come to appreciate what MF mean to LEGO and collectors....this series of MFs are a perfect example...so much subtle and over the top pop culture references and personal memories rolled up into one MF. I realize now that set builds will come and go, but dang it if the MFs are not what really defines a set or time period.
