  1. "Your plan to invest in Technic sets... has holes in it."

  2. Its all good. I had no ill will, I appreciated that were willing to help. It's just not as easy as everyone thinks when you are dealing with ALL sets from ALL time. eBay and the parter-outers kill me and the morons that don't know the difference between used and new is the largest part of the issue. I was just trying to get the point across in that screenshot that 98% of would need to be scratched, so no that isn't a good way to do it and eBay would shut you down anyhow. I have been having a lot of fun reworking the site. Getting rid of tons of useless crap and bringing in information that is useful to todays LEGO investor. The updated site will have a home page that you will actually give a crap about and be there to help you. Updated price guide with new information and trying my best to rework the brickfolio to something that is more usable. The rest will disappear and I will bring certain current reports back or new reports in over time. Its an all new Bootstrap 4 template that will work nice on mobile and hopefully it can help convert into an app later.

  3. 75881 with the wife. got this at a nice discount and popped the seals last night. Only really wanted the gt40 so she built the GT. Perfect how both cars have their own instruction booklet. Nice build, and nice addition to the collection, love those GT40 lines and front end. I need to pull more Lego out of storage and get the modulars built, but here is the new display case, first purchase with Lego profits! Picked it up from a closing funeral home for $100, stayed in the garage while I touched up the stain and deep cleaned, now looks like new. From West Michigan furniture company, dated 1902! Love buying this type of furniture rather than overpriced cheap crap sold in the stores these days. This Curio will eventually be in our bedroom once I find the right size curio for the living room. Better pic of the GT40 later. No stickers and took out the grey strip and opted for a midnight blackout version.

  4. Because the data we get from ebay is not clean, and if you ever take a look at ebay listings, they really aren't the best. People have no idea how to post stuff, so yes, I have a bunch of scripts and filters, etc, etc , etc. But then even after I do that, I still don't find everything. Its not like its a perfect 1 to 1 exact match of set to value. Do you have any idea how many people put New sets listed as used and vice versa? I would say that 50% of the listings need to be reviewed. Do you want data or do you want good data?

  7. The Technics theme doesn't perform very well, but if you're a fan then you can probably make enough to take the edge off of an expensive hobby. Sets are hit or miss. For example, check out the performance of 41999 vs 9398. The first was a limited edition version of the 2nd, but you wouldn't necessarily know it by the current prices. The old Ferrari sets did well, but the collecting game has changed a lot since then and I don't expect the Porsche or Bugatti sets to perform similarly (longer production time + more hoarding = lower prices down the road). Construction vehicles have been steady sellers, but buy-in is a key point to winning---so be cautious of any hype. The Bucket Excavator 42055 was/is amazing, and well received when it came out. But discounts were rare and now, 6 mos after retirement, it can still be found close to MSRP. By contrast, the 42053 Excavator was commonly available at 20-30% off (and very briefly at 50% off) here in the US and is now selling for ~2x MSRP. Parts do a bit better, but it takes more work. Motors and power functions parts are steady sellers, and the common black friction pins are a top selling part on bricklink. Technic parts aren't in high demand in general, though, which makes them easier to pick up at a discount. One strategy for sourcing parts is to keep your eye open for sets from other themes that are on clearance. Chima and Ultra Agents were both great for this---buy at clearance, sell off the minifigs and system bricks, and keep the technic beams+gears+etc for building. A few Lego Movie 2 sets like MetalBeard's Trike 70834 is a current example---or will be in 9-12 months when it goes on clearance. Another place to watch is 2nd-hand stores, like goodwill or savers here in the US. I picked up a technic car last week at 1/2 off the price of new. A decent deal by itself, but it also held a power functions motor and battery pack, which will bump up the resale value considerably when I go to resell it. Good luck, and happy building!

  8. Hey now, you're being too harsh on free porn. It helped me stay away from long term relationships while I was working two jobs through college. I'd like to thank the ease of whacking for my ability to focus on my education, and putting me into a 6 figure salary by my late 20's. I also thank me, for not picking a degree that would make me poor. I can't agree more. It's why with everything I fix around the house, I take my 3 year old with me. He has his own real tools, and knows how to use them. We are currently building him a giant playground from scratch. He comes with me to Lowes/Home depot to pick out the parts, helps mark where I need to cut the boards, and has a big proud smile as he uses his ratchet to help screw in the bolts. I believe trades are the future, and there will be a big gap and money to make as the current workers start to retire. Practical skills will be more important than ever. I'm 32, part of the millennial generation. But unlike most of the people I grew up with, I had ambition. I grew up in a shithole inner city, my parents scraped to get by, and I saw more than my share of corpses in the street. Some people I grew up with got out of it, but most never even tried. People say they were under privileged, but whining instead of putting in effort gets you nowhere. On the flip side one of the kids from the well off families checked me out at Walmart a couple clearance rounds ago.... he attempted to mock all the "toys" I was buying, then complained about how in his 30's his parents finally cut him off. This country gives you every opportunity to make something of yourself, and your options are limitless as long as you are willing to put in the effort.

But ya people here are easy to jump the gun and make fun of others as if they know it all. No one was talking to you. But ya I will take my ball and go home. I don’t see you trying, helping, or commenting, so Shut d F Up

  16. Just a side note, the tone @Ed Mack used in the response to you was pretty neutral. If you surmised anger from that post, most likely you are not going to have a very good experience when the time comes to sell your LEGO.

  20. There are thousands of different LEGO sets sold every month on eBay with multiple (dozens, if not hundreds for some) auctions from each. There is no way to manually do this unless you had nothing better to do or a team of people helping you.

  22. OK The spoiler bann is supposedly lifted. LEGO pretty much missed on representativeness on all their current Marvel Endgame sets...really badly. i believe they can redeem themselves w/ an UCS Milano....no other ship comes close to being "THE Ship" on this film..maybe other than Thanos ship....which looks more Star Trek than Marvel anyway.

  26. Making an insurance claim on water damage under 5k was a mistake. I too made the same mistake and on your second claim your rates go up on all of your properties. For years. Nothing you can do about it because it follows your social security number so switching insurance companies won’t even help. For most people your deductible is 500 and good luck trying to convince an insurance company that water damage to Lego boxes is covered. If this happens again don’t tell the insurance, or make sure it is well worth the claim because they will get thousands out of you in premiums regardless of the amount your claims were.

  32. Thank you Ed for extending the raffle and for everyone's generous support ! My son just participated in the TSA competition at TCNJ and all of your support helps to keep programs like this going; we can not thank you all enough!! Next year, the school will be celebrating 150 years and hopefully it will be there for 150 more! One of our retired principals use to say "Have you helped make a difference today?" --- YOU all have helped make a difference in these kids lives!

  33. Alright everyone, one month until the close of this thing. I'll break the ice on adding some sweeteners on top of these amazing prizes. I will offer up this - for each raffle winner that has donated at least $100 between ticket purchases and regular donations (in any combination), I will add their choice of any one of the following options to their prize (all are new sealed): - 10259 Winter Village Station - 40289 Mini Harry Potter Diagon Alley - 41624 AND 41625 Mickey and Minnie Brickheadz - 41317 Friends Catamaran - 40334 Mini Avengers Tower - 75227 Vader Bust If the total money raised tops last year's total (just over $40k), I'll give this bonus to all raffle winners, regardless of how much they donated. Get out there and get some tickets!

  34. Yes, we had two winners in the UK over the past three years I believe. One on The Isle of Man which I sent to another address within mainland England and another in London. I always make it worthwhile to winners if there is an issue. Last year I gave a winner in Singapore $600.00 (US) to buy a Disney Castle when it would have cost almost half that in the US. I have sent money via Pay Pal numerous times if shipping was a major issue or hassle.

  35. The only reason I am not buying the castle is because it really isn't that large. It is comparable to the fishing store, which to me, isn't large enough to play with as the areas to play with are small on the set. Castles from the past have large area's to move and place minifigures. This set is more of a mini-castle to me built from pieces that I probably have in my BL store already. Just my 2 cents

  36. I have 2 boys enrolled in this school and my husband graduated from here as well. My sons have grown and learned so much from everyone at the school. They have seen so much generosity not only from this group and Ed’s fundraising abilities but from all who have supported their education. This year they decided they wanted to give back to the school that has done so much for them. Thank you for helping keep their school growing and showing them such great support.
