Hidden Site implies a single location, a single thing, or in LEGO sense a single set. Hidden Side sounds more like an alternate layer of reality, which seems more fitting, and can apply to a theme of sets.4 points

I agree. I got my son into trains and LEGO early, and wanting him to be hands on with their play time as opposed to spending his time on screens. Unfortunately, having said that, kids are growing up in an environment where no matter how hard we try they will inevitably be heavily exposed to screens. From another point of view, I think if LEGO makes augmented reality truly appealing, there's an argument to be made that it would encourage kids to build those LEGOs more if they want to enjoy the game. As an app developer, when it comes to augmented reality in its current stages, there's really only a few tricks to identifying the thing you're trying to augment. It's either going to be specific markers (I.E. a barcode, a sticker symbol...etc.), and specific shapes and/or colors. For these LEGO augmented reality sets, it's either going to be special pieces ("markers"), special stickers, or the shape and color of the set. From the video above, it appears LEGO is going by shape, so on the one hand, if you lose a sizable chunk from the set the app won't work. On the other hand, you could supplement the missing pieces with any other pieces of differing colors. Lastly, as for the apps, they're not multiplayer or server-oriented so there needs no continuous support. Perhaps in the beginning there may be some support for newly discovered bugs, tweaks, and improvements, but once the set and app reaches its lifespan...in theory, the app could exist in perpetuity on the app store. I believe technology is neither good nor bad, it's really how it's utilized. Here's hoping LEGO considers more on the enticement of hands on play aspect of their products as opposed to only pursuing profit and diminishing the hands on aspect.4 points

Issues: The box art is horrendous They’ve excluded two minifigures, the Bedrock sign, and the platform under the car from the original Ideas set. The scale seems off between the house and car. *edit* Barney really should have medium sized legs so that he was both shorter than the others and able to sit in the car. Positives: The final model has a second row for Barney and Betty the original model didn’t have. The final model’s 2x2 round tile axel ends are better than the 1x1 round tile on the original. I like the fabric top of the car better than the brick built top. I think the official model’s house exterior is better/cleaner than the original. I actually like the model, I just think the box art does it no favors.3 points

To be fair, the build includes interior of the house too (watch the last minute of the speed build video). Although I would rather they removed the rack of ribs and included Dino instead3 points

I like the innovation and concept. I just don't think it is a good fit for Lego. Part of the brand's enduring appeal to parents is the concept of unplugging tech and letting imagination take over, letting the kid build what he likes without a TV or computer. Also, letting a kid build a kit outside of what the instructions ask for. This seems like a novelty, one that has a strong initial draw , then progressively diminishes after a day or so. Here are a few fundamental questions I have: Will the model function with the app if bricks are missing or directions aren't followed exactly? What sort of support will exist for the app after the theme retires? Imagine the SNAD claim or Amazon return comments 3 or 4 years from now after a parent drops x4 or x5 rrp on a concept that is no longer supported. How many young kids (or parents) actually have the space to keep their Lego kits fully assembled and displayed?3 points

I’m not liking the mini figures. Why didn’t they at least give Woody the long legs? This would have been a good opportunity to reuse the queen CMF dress for Bopeep. Feeling old here too, Toy Story 2 was one of the first dates I went on with my now wife.3 points

I really like the kiosk here. Reminds me of the silly designs from Roller Coaster Tycoon back in the day.3 points

I agree. The bus is my favorite in the line. To me, that fits best in a Halloween theme, like a burnt out husk.2 points

Awesome. This should be good addition for a kiddie section of a theme park along with the big guys (mixer, ferris wheel, etc).2 points

Half of my target orders had those obnoxious red stickers on them. The other half fortunately escaped this problem. I'm bummed too because despite being able to get them off, they still seem to sometimes leave a very light residue that is pretty hard to remove.1 point

That was exactly my thought. It would be a great start to a midway section of a carnival display! I love the purple octopuss ride and the shooting gallery is reminiscent of the Buzz Lightyear ride at the Magic Kingdom.1 point

Some additional info regarding packaging. @Admin Would you please provide more information on the packaging of these sets. Are they to be packed in sturdy cardboard boxes? Will they be illustrated and in color? Yes, they will be packed in sturdy cardboard. The exact nature of the boxes is not known yet, but they will be illustrated and identified by color photos and printing. These will not be "brown box basics", but will be something a collector would be proud to own. How will the parts be packed inside? All in one bag or several? We are separating parts by stage (sets have up to five stages) and the bags will be numbered by stage. Bags with small parts will be stored inside bags with large parts. Parts are separated into bags with the building process in mind. To give you an idea of scope, the Wild West Saloon is tentatively slated to be split into 16 different bags, with 2 stages. How will you ensure that the correct parts are included? Every bag will have an inventory, and every bag will be checked by weight and some other means before being sealed. Is LEGO doing the packing? No, we are doing it all in California. I can’t imagine they are all being hand picked! Yes, they will be packed very carefully by hand. There will be a few machines involved (a bag sealer, for example) but it will be largely manual labor. The setup costs for a mechanized run are out of our range. Lastly what form will the instructions be? A print out on copy paper or more like LEGO instructions? They will be professionally printed in four different sizes depending on the size of the set.1 point

There is only one acceptable mecha dinosaur! In seriousness, I think I have mech fatigue from Ninjago, but I am sure LEGO considers these winners.1 point

My 11yo daughter showed me the trailer last night. I wasn't even aware it was released. She was excited, which warmed my heart, because she's definitely growing up too fast. I'm not ready for her to enter the teenager stage.1 point

This was the first Ideas set that I supported, and it would have been a day one purchase, for personal build. However, this monstrosity that they are showing, if the final version, I WILL NOT BUY for personal build at all!1 point

Sorry, I may have facilitated the looting of the Bishop CA store already ? Believe it or not, they typically have good deals, gotten a decent score or two from them before.1 point
