This is always the busiest time of year where receiving and sending high volumes of packages overlap. During this time I often wonder, "Didn't you become an engineer so you didn't have to pack and un-pack boxes all day?" "Calculus must have been preparation for labeling Lego boxes for hours, while being sleep deprived and still putting them on straight" "Having a little side hustle is the cool thing to do, is this still cool?"6 points

70 extra large home depot boxes The second guy showed up with a moving style truck and if it was empty it could fit close to that.3 points

The issue in not China but the people selling them on every marketplace imaginable. Amazon is loaded with fakes and yet they bust on resellers for some BS safety data. Crack down on the resellers of knockoff sets instead of resellers of legitimate sets and maybe The LEGO Group's profits will improve.3 points

Today I tried something different and set up a Lego booth at a local indoor flea market that is held three times per year. I advertised on local Facebook buy/sell groups for about a month leading up to the sale. It seemed to drum up a lot of interest since many people told me that my booth was the only reason they came to the sale. I choose this particular date since it’s right before the holiday shopping season and advertised it as such. Pros...the sale was located less than a mile from my home, so very minimal transportation issues. Lots of traffic and networking opportunities. I had some business cards printed up and handed them out. Cons...lots of prep, from pricing research to literally pricing everything, boxing everything up for transport, set up, and take down. Also, the sale only ran for six hours, from 8am-2pm. Would have been nice to go to at least 4pm. My goal was to focus on small stocking stuffers to medium sets that are priced well for gifting, and it seemed to work. I brought a few large exclusives, but mainly just to draw attention to the booth. I priced my retired sets about 20-35% below eBay sold prices, and my non retired sets below regular retail, while still maintaining an acceptable margin. Surprisingly, I didn’t have many people trying to negotiate, as many realized my pricing was more than fair. I was a little worried about that since it was a flea market / garage sale type environment. In six hours I did just over $900 in sales, mostly the small to medium sized sets I was hoping to move. All in all it was a pretty decent experience, which I will most likely try again in the future. The next sale is in January, which I’ll skip. The following sale after that is in March, which should be a decent opportunity since people will be getting their tax returns and will have some extra cash to spend.2 points

I would take the arrowhead. It costs the most, is very unique, and will never be remade.1 point

Yep beats the pants off amazon prep or any 3rd party prep center. As long as they can do 50% of what I can do prep wise it is win win all the way around and I can focus on the $100+ per hour tasks.1 point
-
Glad you said it. I wouldn't have any friends or respect from the neighbors if I offered them $10 an hour.1 point

This is when it is more profitable to hire someone so you can focus on tasks that generate much higher profit. We have one employee at $10 per hour to unbox, prep, and pack while we handle the buying and admin. If you have a trusted friend, family member or neighbor I would highly recommend going this route if you can.1 point

Why the f**k can every school district in my County get bond measures to pass every single time, but my school district is the one that fails every time? F**king old people that live in my district seriously overran the polls and put out a disinformation campaign, and seriously prevented a school bond to go through that would build a f**king high school. Why don't they want it? The high school would be built in their back yard. F**king NIMBY's.1 point

FBA boxes are free pickup with Fed Ex. Just make an account online and schedule it on the website as a ground pickup. I've done UPS smart pickups since 2014 and have never been charged. They do 1 year free pickup promos and don't usually charge you after the year is up. Fed Ex has to be scheduled for the next business day and usually makes you enter in box quantity and weight estimates. UPS doesn't ask for this info on Smart Pickups and you can schedule pickups for same day before the cutoff time you set. I've requested UPS pickups as late as 3pm and they still come that day (or late LATE night during the Holiday rush.) Fed Ex is usually cheaper, but not always. UPS has been more consistent and reliable for me though.1 point

So I just got off the phone with support. Here are the steps they provided to get around this. If you get to the point that you need to select "Amazon Barcode", but the only option is "Manufacturer Barcode", do NOT select save and continue. You need to go back one page and select "Fulfill by Merchant'. After doing so and hitting next, you should see both barcode options. Choose 'Amazon barcode' and then save and continue. After this, convert the listing to FBA and you're good to go. She said that will resolve this issue 99% of the time. If it does not, you'll have to call in and have them help you.1 point

I'm sure Chinese companies producing counterfeit goods will abide by this.1 point

On the one hand it's probably less complicated a lawsuit to only go after the intellectual property that they fully own, brick, design, and content. I wonder if that leaves those companies to continue to do the licensed IP sets, or if this is even enforceable in the first place. If so, this is a fairly small victory for us.1 point

Picked up a large lot on Craigslist for $150. Unfortunately, no instructions. Sets were put together still for the most part. I've been able to identify the following sets. No idea if they are complete yet, but I was able to go through the large bucket of figures and find that at least they are all included for each set that I've identified thus far. Here's what we've located to this point: 3181-1 Passenger Plane 4202-1 Mining Truck 4203-1 Excavator Transporter 4209-1 Fire Plane 4432-1 Garbage Truck 4439-1 Heavy-Lift Helicopter 4738-1 Hagrid's Hut 4842-1 Hogwarts Castle 5868-1 Ferocious Creatures 7037-1 Tower Raid 7048-1 Troll Warship 7094-1 King's Castle Siege 7097-1 Trolls' Mountain Fortress 7498-1 Police Station 7947-1 Prison Tower Rescue 9465-1 The Zombies 9469-1 Gandalf Arrives 9474-1 The Battle of Helm's Deep 9476-1 The Orc Forge 10188-1 Death Star (Boxes 2, 3, and 4 are all still sealed) 10193-1 Medieval Market Village 21105-1 The Village 21106-1 The Nether 31005-1 Construction Hauler 60001-1 Fire Chief Car 79000-1 Riddles for the Ring 79001-1 Escape from Mirkwood Spiders 79002-1 Attack of the Wargs 79003-1 An Unexpected Gathering 79010-1 The Goblin King Battle Not a bad haul for $1501 point

My 6 year old son made his first craigslist LEGO sale last night in a hockey arena parking. $50 for 300+ pcs of Duplo. He made the exchange, shook hands and the whole bit! Soon he’ll be moving in to Toys r Us parking lots.1 point

I bought a fair amount of individual sets from B&N during the sale. Either B&N, or UPS, or both must have employees who also are World Cup players as best as I can tell. Some sets will also be going back because the in-transit holes and openings allowed rain to pool in the box with the lousy job placing them in the plastic bags. But this box was my favorite: Hmm, haven't seen this label before. Probably not a good sign. Ah, yes. Now the label makes sense. The wall of packing tape on the side about matches the side itself. And the obvious results. The foreground corner is heavily reinforced with packing tape. Both original seals and mid section have been popped. I'm guessing that's how "SMD" was able to ascertain that "no visible damage was found" and "the contents have been repackaged"? That's what really grinds my gears. I have to imagine "SMD" checked out the Sealed Bags thread to make sure everything was in there? No f-ing way man. This will be going back along with its water damaged brethren. First world problems, just annoying with the lack of care.0 points
