  1. Local LEGO Store added some Halloween themed pieces to the build-a-minifigure bins over the past week. Bats Jack-o-lantern Heads Brooms Heads, Torsos, and Legs below... There was a witch hat hair that I didn’t get this time- had to get extra Jack-o-Lanterns... basically the witch top from CMF line but colored with tan tap and orangish hair... The Vampyre Torso is done in purple. This appears as a new print. Old version was done in maroon. The Bride Toros and Dress is printed in Fuchsia. Old version was done in red...

  3. Another couple of hours tonight and through bag 9. It got be a little pricey for me this week since my daughter convinced me to let her build a 10188 since, "You have so many and can't get rid of them, and you need one for your comparison video." Yes, she got me on all my week points. I have a 1,000 piece head start, but she has more time. The not-surprise of the day is that my dreams of easily splitting this apart to display on a shelf are not going to come true. The landing platform comes off for some reason, but that won't help it fit on a shelf. What I have built so far will not come apart. I think the color changes for the different area look great. I still haven't been compelled to use any of the stickers. I find it depressing that I feel amazed and thrilled when there is a printed control panel instead of sticker (the 1x2 tile in the freezing chamber section).

  4. Because people love to *****. The set is fine. I think the Lego community is just inundated with so many sets nowadays that unless it is a pitch perfect replica of their fan boy dreams it's going to disappoint. I mean it is better than Assault on Hoth. No question there. Now that set was a disappointment no matter what anyone said. Cloud City actually feels semi complete. And if you are true AFOL you'll be able to modify it to make it better. The essentials are there unlike Assault on Hoth.

  5. Biggest surprise so far is I was expecting some sort of technic frame, but this is built the old fashion way like the Death Star before it. Lots of 2x8 bricks for the frame. Next surprise is that it is all in one book. With the designers saying how they want building a family event every chance they get, I expected 2 books. You can't work together on this unless you have a clear piece finder/set builder relationship established. Final surprise is that I love the midi Slave I. Through Bag 5 in about 2.5 hours. No stickers applied. Not sure why I am so enthused about this set. I could never get myself you build the Death Star playset.

  6. People bash AoH… but I think this is FAR worse. AoH was definitely missing somethings and there were some mistakes (like the generator), but for what this set lacked, you could atleast add to it easily and with there being no main structure holding it together you could easily display this however you like. This set, however, would be hard to edit/add too without messing with the whole structure and how does one display this in a pleasing manor? Each section looks okay... Slave 1 is too small. Just looks like a bunch of scenes crammed together without much thought. This is the worst set ever released by Lego (that's with little thought though, similar to this design..) OH!! And it's $400 CAD … Right, okay...

  11. I've built a bartop sized arcade machine and put in a Jamma Board 60-in-1 board with 60 classic games (centipede, pacman, donkey Kong, etc). They're not awful expensive, you can make it one or two player, add a track ball if you want, etc., but I'm definitely a fan of build it yourself. I've also built a full size one that I simply installed an original NES into, then wired the control up to arcade buttons. Pretty fun stuff!

  13. If you want something like this, have the box built, and put a real computer in it with an emulator and get 1000's of games vs 1 or a few.

  14. Death Star is overly gray. Cloud City is of course much more colorful. I like this set just fine except for the price. I take issue with all the griping about it being a play set: Who says that AFOLs don't like play sets? I'm sorry but building a giant, gray shell of Cloud City would be boring. Unfortunately this set was going to be compromised no matter what. From a business standpoint I think they should have leaned more towards a $280 price point and eliminated the dining room and a few other details. I really like the included vehicles though.

  18. It does have IG-88B who was killed by Fett on Cloud City. You can see his carcass in the incinerator room.

  19. Regarding the ice rink, I can't help but feel that its inclusion forced a non-preferred trade-off (in my opinion) to the other builds within this set. I would have liked to have seen the firetruck look a little more... 'complete'. That opinion could come from the fact that when others were posting pictures of the firetruck from 10197 Fire Brigade, my mental baseline got set. Now that I see the stock photo shots of the firetruck from 10263 Winter Village Fire Station, I just see it as "okay". It's not awful, but it feels kind of small and something feels awkward with the ladder (either in the way it would be used or stored, or where a minifigure would sit... I'm not sure what I don't like about it yet). I think the existence of an ice rink in a multi-set Winter Village display is a nice thing, but I would have preferred to purchase it separately, like 40262: Christmas Train Ride or 40263: Christmas Town Square. In fact, it would be nice to see more $9.99 seasonal sets to serve as add-ons to a growing winter village. The two sitting on the park bench I really appreciate. I love the saxophone. It totally reminds me of a couple years ago in Marco Island Florida during Christmas where one of the tenants of my folks place was playing Christmas music on his sax. When combined with the street light the bench scene provides a Hans Christian-Anderson kind of look/feel. It's appropriate and can stand on its own as a nice inclusion to an overall multi-set Creator Expert Winter Village. I will be purchasing this set for my wife, it's an annual tradition. This set has more that I like than dislike, so that's positive.

  22. You're also comparing a set that was available for 34 months (Poe's) compared to 18 months (Resistance). That makes a huge difference.
