The last 3 smaller sets I ordered (all 14" x 8" x 2.5" or less) shipped from Amazon.com or FBA were shipped via envelope. All 3 were crushed during transit. 1 envelope was cellophaned to another, much larger/heavier box (which ironically contained 25 pack of cardboard boxes to be used for upcoming holiday season). I am starting to think those laid off Kmart S&H workers may have landed new jobs.3 points

Anyone else built this yet? This was a rare day 1 purchase for me. I just finished it last night - took about a week to build it and savor it a bit. My 10 year old son was able to negotiate building every third bag (there are 37 bags total), so when he was not building he was in my office every 5 minutes checking on my progress. As a Potter fan I think it's just a spectacular set and design. I feel like it will hold up as quite iconic on future top-10 lists. It has a great mix of small scenes/locations fans of the book will cherish, a number of clever building techniques and new pieces, and overall a lack of repetitive sections which kept it feeling fresh to me. Anyway I was quite glad I bought it and actually built it vs. keeping in the box like most of my collection. Is it completely perfect? No. Are there a lot of stickers? Yes. All things considered though I think they pulled off an awesome winner given the size, piece count, price combo.3 points

I think the sales of this set were a joke...that's why it's retiring.2 points

There was a lot of heartburn from investors over this set when it was disappearing over a long and agonizing 1.5 years.1 point

My vote is on a Tantive IV re-make, similar to the 10198 from the 10th anniversary line.1 point

Time to take bets. I say UCS ISD, another OT Falcon playset, B-Wing and some Microfighters.1 point

Just a general heads up about selling toys on Amazon this year for Q4. Last year Amazon did a much better job of keeping instock on the popular toys. There still were opportunities but for the most part Amazon really hogged the buy box compared to previous years. I fully expect them to do an even better job in 2018. Also new for this year (AFAIK) the top 100 toys are hard gated. If you were already on those listings you are grandfathered in but for anyone else you cannot even apply to get approved to sell any of the top 100 toys - you just see the message "currently you cannot sell this ASIN". I fully expect Amazon to hard gate any other super hot toys as they become known. This will ensure no debacles like last year with Fingerlings etc. The general TOY category is also gated for new accounts now on top of the brand gates and sub-categories. I think it will be a great year for the toys we can sell with Toys R Us gone (although KB Toys will be doing pop ups in the alot of the now vacant TRU B+M locations). Just make sure you can list any hot toys when purchasing and be prepared that by the time you get home to list or send to FBA they may be hard gated or at any time Amazon may cause those hot toys to go stranded even if you are currently selling. Obviously ebay is going to also be a good option with much less restrictions and I fully expect ebay to have plenty of 15-20% off coupons flying around.1 point

....Holy brick, that's amazing. The mileage might be bad with a slow speed of cruising along at 18 miles per hour and I can't even imagine how the sound of an "engine" made from 2,304 LEGO motors would be like after a while but still, friggin' sweet. Now I'm just wondering which is more expensive, the original vehicle or this?1 point

Remember the Batcave that was tagged retiring soon about a year before it did in the US? Clearly a sign of very poor sales and a lot of stock in warehouse. Next step will be a heavy Black Friday discount.1 point

There must be a mistake!!!! I still would prefer no warnings and just disappeared though. Now watch the madness from all the last minute buyers to snap this set up. Then LEGO will move the retire soon tag back to Slave 11 point

All set, the end result was freaking awesome. Hands down the best and most enjoyable set that I have ever built. The final piece is pretty sturdy and more importantly breathtaking . A must for any adult builder who is into the HP franchise . My 2 cents on some missed opportunities/cons from a die hard HP nerd POV . Stickers : about 70 - 75 of them. They do help keep the piece count down ( otherwise building some scenes would add a lot of elements ) and they do hit the mark portraying their respective scenes , however printed bricks would have been a better idea and added more elegance to the set Is this a Hogwarts Set or a HP Hogwarts set ? Meaning it stays loyal to HP's POV of the castle . Would have rather had the other 3 common rooms added along with the kitchen ( threw in an elf of two ) rather than have many scenes from the first movie. Speaking of first movie , should have added Fluffy and done away the dragon since again it is heavy one the first movie scenes. Room of requirements : in the dungeon? gmab Should have had Hagrid, no excuse for that one not to be included. Bonus micro figs : Slughorn, Lockhart, and Mad Eye.1 point
