  2. Hello All, This is only my 2nd post, so hope I'm in the right forum, but my local Barns and Nobel had a bunch of Lego in the clearance section for 30% off, Brickhedz and Nexo for the most part, but with the extra 10% membership discount they seemed to be a good price. All of their stuff starts at RRP.

  6. I had so much fun interviewing Jamie Berard about Creator Expert and the Modular Building Series earlier this year. It's rare to get an opportunity to get inside the minds of the creative genius designers at LEGO, so I thought you might enjoy some selected highlights from the interview. The interview was split into the following two parts: Highlights from: ɪɴᴛᴇʀᴠɪᴇᴡ: Modular Building Series with Jamie Berard In this interview, we discussed how Downtown Diner, and Parisian Restauraunt represented two major turning points in the series... Jamie Berard: "Some people would say there are two stages of the modular, with #10243 Parisian Restaurant starting the second expression because we put more detail inside the building and focused a bit more on storytelling. As we approached the 10 year mark, we needed to be careful that we didn’t stay on auto-pilot, where it becomes too familiar and people can just predict the next one." I surprised that one of the earlier sets wasn't very well received initially: Jamie Berard: "I remember when we did the #10197 Fire Brigade. That one was not very well received in that people were horrified that it was too American; ... They said that the flag is hideous, although that I appreciate that and agree... Then they said it only has two floors, and everybody knows the modular have three floors. They had already defined in their mind what it should be." We also got a chance to talk about how Creator Expert helped bring Teal back... Jamie Berard: "We considered Medium Azure and some other blues. All of these complement the Dark Pink color we wanted to use for the convertible in this set. ... we thought this set was a nice way to bring teal back, and bring it back with a quantity of bricks. We also talked about storytelling (ex: money laundering), and highlights his two favorite sets in the series! Link to full interview. Highlights from: ɪɴᴛᴇʀᴠɪᴇᴡ: LEGO Creator Expert with Jamie Berard Since my passion is LEGO Architecture, we talked at length about the large Architecture models (like Big Ben) in the Creator Expert series. I asked how they pick which buildings to create as sets: Jamie Berard: "It is harder for us to accomplish contemporary, clean architecture in a large model, because of our target audience is adults. ... If you try to re-create any of the well-known architecture that is too minimalist ... in a LEGO version it comes across a bit naïve ... On the flip side, there’s a lot of great classic architecture that you can imagine in LEGO and know it’s gonna be great. I’d say anything “old world” looks great in LEGO because we have a lot of opportunities for details, texture, implying different stonework or materials." I was surprised to hear that they struggle to wrap there heads around what deserves the "Creator Expert" label. Jamie Berard: "But how do you perceive what makes it Expert? This is an internal question we are trying to resolve…" We also learned which building in the Creator Expert was most challenging to get right, and might have still been a bit disappointing in the end. It was fun hearing how much enthusiasm he has about his work, something you may have already noticed when watching his Designer Videos. Link to full interview. Sincerely, ---tom P.S. For practical reasons, these were just a few of my favorite excerpts from the full interviews at brickarchitect.com website. I hope you enjoyed the stories behind these great LEGO sets!

  7. Hi everyone I wanted to showcase my Lego Ideas project, The Old Workhorse - Traction Engine. If you like the model I'd really appreciate it if you could please vote for it https://ideas.lego.com/projects/2a2ec583-9836-4868-8dc7-6b3bb0a2fe80 "A roaring fire and a full head of steam, the old traction engine is ready for work!" I have created a scene set some time during the early 20th century. Farmers are working in the fields with their steam traction engine, affectionately known as "The Old Workhorse". The model includes a detailed mini fig scale traction engine, a wagon and various other accessories and mini builds. THE TRACTION ENGINE The main feature of the model is the traction engine itself. I've used a classic green and red livery with polished brass lining and details. There are several interesting parts used to create this engine including paint roller handles and mini fig syringes used to create the piping around the boiler and inside the cab. A system of cogs ensures that the flywheel spins around as the traction engine is pushed forward. A detailed cab interior includes steering wheel, controls and a firebox door that can be opened and closed to reveal the burning fire inside. The front wheel axle can be pivoted left and right. THE WAGON I've also included a wagon/trailer that can be coupled to the back of the traction engine and used to carry the various accessories included with the model. The sides of the wagon can be dropped down to provide loading access for the mini figs. There is space at the front of the wagon to hold tools and mini fig accessories. MINIFIGURES & OTHER ACCESSORIES Included with the model are 2 mini figs, a dog, a rat and several mini builds including tree stumps, logs and rocks. These are all designed to be carried and towed in the wagon. LEGO IDEAS Thanks very much for reading this. I hope you like the model. I've created a gallery album containing more pictures of the model if you'd like to check them out. https://community.brickpicker.com/gallery/album/310-the-old-workhorse-traction-engine/ If you would like to vote for the model on LEGO Ideas then here is the link to my page. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/2a2ec583-9836-4868-8dc7-6b3bb0a2fe80. Thank you very much! ☺️

  8. How does everyone handle their receipts for book keeping? I am noticing more and more of my receipts are fading very quickly. Anyone have suggestions for digital management of receipts?

  10. I don't mind all the FUD about these new "bioplastic" bricks, but it is important to note that I'm quite certain these are all the softer PET parts, none of them ABS at this point. Made from ethanol produced from sugarcane rather than fossil oil. Lego's assurance that these won't break down is almost certainly true as it's just replacing one source of a chemical for another.

  17. Everyone is entitled to an opinion as “mustcatsfan” stated earlier on this thread, and much like “LegoAddict42”, I Too saw Saw” Star Wars” as a kid but not in the 90’s re-released “special edition”, but in the hot summer of 77 at a mall that isn’t even there anymore bulldozed to make way for a Walmart, so here’s My “Opinion”.. The Last Jedi isn’t Cannon at all it went on a tangent from JJ’s episode 7(if you enjoyed ep7) threw to OT Lore in the trash, for instance, from my my point of view, Luke Skywalker would Never ever never Never ever NEVER do the things “Ryan round head Johnson” had him do scripted in that film of his, Not to mention a long heart wrenching list of things to add of which I’ll keep to myself to keep this short. Let’s talk 75192 Has the last Jedi Influenced it’s potential sales? Short run Yes, long run no, But because of the poor care of this franchise the 75192 will never come close to the 10179 holy grail numbers of over $10,000. I wouldn’t expect much from Ryan Johnson, kathy Kenny is expected to step down all all bets are off of any promises made to that round headed guy touching Disney’s over 4 billion dollar asset that so far has single handedly tanked most or all Star Wars product, put toys r us into a permanent vacation and dominoed All toy and Lego collecting into a panic. Not too mention the 80 million dollar loss of the Han SOLO movie which is a direct consequence of TLJ. so when TLG released all these Lego Han Solo sets at those rediculous Disney license Inflated prices I was literally Laughing MY Bricks off Thankfully despite what Disney wants Turner Classic Movies still Owns the rights to stream The Original trilogy and won’t give em up-lol Overall I still think the 75192 is a great Investment to True Fans of the OT, but the new stuff... nawww cause something is only considered “Cannon” if the fans can swallow it and the Last Jedi is retail Poison. Cheers and I agree to disagree

  19. Actually, selling 1,000 units on EBAY would be very easy compared to 1,000 different sets. One listing, repeated. One style box for shipping, repeated. I think his theory makes sense, as long as you have 1,000 buyers for the set.

  21. My technique: Grab 5, open, see if I have duplicates, trade duplicates with other HP nerd at the office, narrow down which I need to look for when I have time. A boy and his dad were smooshing the CMF box at the Lego store today. I grabbed 5 randos and walked away. They were still searching for Percival.

  23. Well, I'm satisfied with how GE handled the opened sets. Since they can't process reorders with WM, they're letting me keep them, refunding the cost, and issuing $60 in discount codes
