This model obviously has some of the car's functions, which warranted some compromise on design. The bumper is sticking out to hide the license plate mechanism: if you look closely, the license late is on an axle. The machine guns are likely hidden under the hood, and given the construction of the roof the ejector seat is working. So this model has to be evaluated differently from the other Expert vehicles because they do not have any functions. If everything works as intended, this is a great set.2 points

Walmart screwed me over. I ordered 6 before they went out of stock. They charged the wrong card so I requested a cancellation. Then they sold out. I called them and asked them to cancel the cancellation but they couldn't do anything. By the time I got off the phone, they were sold out and slowly reappearing, grabbed by the rest of you fine folks. So, lesson learned... NEVER cancel an order from Walmart and expect quick cancellation like Amazon.2 points

Sounds like you're starting in the right place. Buy some sets and then sell them...rinse and repeat. Try Ebay, bricklink, and other sales platforms you can find, and figure out what works best for you. The biggest challenge lies in figuring out what to buy, when to buy it, and how much to pay for it. Perhaps a bit obvious, but that is ultimately the key to making things work. Unless you have a lot of excess capital, don't go crazy buying sets on discount or at clearance until you know that you can move what you're buying. Buying is easy, selling is hard. And most of all...take what you read here with a grain of salt. There are some folks who know what they're doing and are straight up about things, but there are also a lot who talk out of their a**. Good luck. Oh and on your original question about packaging...Lego boxes are quite resilient. If you're sending a single set, a single wall shipping cardboard shipping box with newspaper as void fill is really all you need. Sent from my SM-G965U using Brickpicker Forum mobile app1 point

I am happy with it as a free accessory set (never enough plants), but investment potential is zilch imho.1 point

There are some areas where I wish it were possible to transition smoother but making subtle curves with LEGO is tricky business and we all know that. Anyhow I am certain Aston Martin had a say in the design process considering it is their automobile. If anybody can do better I would gladly see it.1 point

I just called Target customer service to see if they would price match The Old Fishing Store. The rep put me on hold for a few minutes to verify the WM price. When he came back on the line he stated that they will not price match WM because it's on a roll back and Target considers that a clearance price. Whatever, dude. In for ten from WM. Thanks, OP!1 point

Beauty is in the eyes of beholder... considering rarity and price of this car......it’s a beautiful thing.1 point

There are, of course, instances where TLG has released products that were designed to appeal directly to the collector's mindset (e.g., 41999, Mr. Gold), but those have always been outliers. TLG may use collectible, limited, and exclusive routinely in their product names, advertisements, and other marketing materials, but that's just puffery and in no way reflective of their core product strategy. If TLG had ever intended to market their products as collectibles, they wouldn't have been selling them in mainstream toy stores, Target, or Walmart. Things were different before...whether that difference was "better" or "worse" than the present has a lot to do with the decisions that one made in the intervening years. If someone went all-in on an exclusives-only strategy after seeing the success of Green Grocer, Taj Mahal, and the first MF, that person is almost certainly saying that things are worse because few sets since then have performed as well as the sets of that vintage. Conversely, if someone realized the market's past was not prologue for the future and made the necessary adjustments in strategy, that person doesn't necessarily look at the past as "better." The strategy that I pursue today is fundamentally different than the strategy that I pursued 5-6 years ago, and is far more profitable so I wouldn't say that things were better before by any stretch of the imagination. The one thing that I can say was objectively "better" in the past was the level of competition. Before the advent of this site and the rise in general awareness of the opportunity that existed for reselling Lego, things were vastly better simply because the market was distorted and not functioning properly. As awareness has grown, the balance between supply and demand has evened out and prices have moderated...this is most noticeable in the vastly different EOL price curves of CC/GG vs. PS/PC. Basically, we're no longer shooting fish in a barrel...now we're actually having to work for dinner.1 point

Lego VP: How can we further leverage the interest of James Bond to continue the momentum? Lego Asst.VP: We can add some BrickHeadz, some Junior sets, some Duplo sets, some Friends sets and....a minifigure series... Lego VP: Those are great ideas.... I know you know that these are my ideas from now on, right? Lego Asst. VP: Yes, you come up with these great ideas. Lego VP: But adding minifigures like the Bonds' girls required new design and production cost.... Lego Asst. VP: Don't worry, we still have a lot.. I mean, A LOT of unsold inventory of Super Hero Girls minifigures/sets that can be "repurpose" Lego VP: Great!!1 point

Given the success that TLG has had over the last 10+ years compared to the prior 10 years, I would say that they have a pretty good idea of what they're doing. We don't have access to their internal sales data or market research so sets that may seem to you like dull rehashes that have very little market potential, may actually be their biggest sellers. You have to keep in mind that they have a brand new group of core customers every 3-5 years as older kids are out of Lego and younger kids are in. There is a reason they rehash sets.
