Loved this comment on Brickset: " Went in to my local TRU wanted to cash out my 20 bucks in reward points had my 2 brickheadz and a cmf when I got to the register the lady just put the stuff in a bag and said have a nice day, couldn't believe it. " note: I added that comma on the end there, but maybe we can appreciate it more as a run-on sentence.6 points

This is a super silly debate, but If we're saying gravity had any factor, I'm guessing that the Dreadnaught from Ep8 was far larger than the asteroid in Empire and would have exterted more gravitational pull. That said, the Ep8 book says something about it being launched and magnetically targeted from the clip (the lower portion of the bomber). So it's not just a dumb magnet, it was targeted. It would be why they had to get so close, directly above the thing. Is it silly,,,,sure. So is the concept of laser light arcing back on itself through a special crystal that is contained within a small handheld device.2 points

UCS Cloud City RPP in Poland will be for 1900PLN which is about price of the Death Star -20%. My mate who works for LEGO Poland send me text with price confirmation but no set number yet. the more interesting is the fact that there will be set named "HOGWARTS(?)" which will be significantly bigger and more expensive than Disney Castle same RPP as UCS Cloud City in Poland. price overses may vary. both D2C. Well, things are getting interesting.2 points

Actually, we're thinking about this all wrong. It's in the life-cycle of a business. Amazon is the Sears and Roebuck of the 21st century. Think about it. When Sears became big in the late 1800s and into the 1900s, Sears was a mail order service and their catalog, which was inches thick, was golden. I know people who ordered prefab houses through the Sears catalog in the early 1900s. Then they began opening stores and the rest is history. I'm not sure how many know this but Amazon began opening their own store fronts last year. They will simply replace the stores that are going out of business until another company is the new upstart and does to Amazon what they're doing to everyone else. I just hope I'm around to buy stock in that company... lol.1 point

The guy sounds like a jerk. Now, I know that some companies pack up and ship slow moving merchandise from stores that are going to remain open to ones that are closing and clearancing stuff out. DO we know that's not what was happening? All that garbage may have most likely been the detritus of every TRU within 3 states. There's no way that a TRU backroom is so deep that they could hold that much product. as was shown. No manager would allow that level of the same product to pile up. Blaming Disney and Star Wars for the collapse of Toys R Us is ignorant and flies in the face of the physical realities that TRU has been in trouble for a long time. Pointing out the toys to life stuff and blaming the collapse on Disney is also ignorant because every one of those brands is collapsing including Dimensions and Amiibo and Skylanders which have 0 Disney content. Constantly mentioning SJWs sounded bitter and resentful. Did Hasbro produce too much Star Wars product? oh yeah. Have they done it in the past? most definitely. Remember bins of Episode 1 Figures and all the toys that they sold to Toys R Us at massive discounts in about 2000? Hasbro was sitting on warehouses full of figures that they sold to Toys R US who then sold them to consumers at massive discounts. They got high on their supply, but eventually bounced back. They've diversified too much, trying to get Spaceballs the flamethrower up and running. But that's not what crashed Toys R Us, and it's not what killed the toy market. Tablets and their games as well as other digital content have done that.1 point

Interesting video. I didn't watch all of it. Wasn't sure to post it here or in the Star Wars thread. There's definitely a crash happening. Not sure if it's toys in general or the Star Wars brand itself. As a side note, my boys are watching the original Toy Story tonight. It was made back when storytelling and fun characters were a priority over gender politics and brand recycling.1 point

Mitt Romney is to blame not WM or AMZ. They are running at a slight profit without the crippling debt the Bain buyout dumped on them. http://www.joemygod.com/2018/03/15/mitt-romney-helped-kill-toys-r-us/1 point

Legit question. Seems like the line is doing well. I wonder if another retailer will pick up the line (Target?) or if we see the end of the line. Ugh. Honestly, the minifigures the last two years have been disappointing. I'd rather have the buildings. But I was at TRU over this past weekend, and they still had Bricktober sets on the shelf at $20. For SoCal, I'm willing to bet the vultures (e.g., Soccer Mom's) will hit the store as soon as 10% off kicks in, and decimate it. I can hope that we'll see some real stuff on sale, but seriously doubt there will be much of anything at any good discount.1 point

Game over in the UK by next month. Reseller scum start your engines. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-43401674 All Toys R Us stores in the UK will close in the next six weeks following the chain's collapse into administration. Attempts to find a buyer for the US retailer's 100 stores in the UK have failed. Twenty five stores have either closed in recent days or are due to shut by Thursday. The collapse will put more than 3,000 people out of work as a dismal period for the retail sector continues.1 point

I only wish I had the spare time to go into my TRU store and gloat at the manager and a few of her minions. They always treated me with indifference or spite shutting me down at every promotion and once even canceling a purchase AFTER it was rang up and paid for using TRUTH and gift cards. I made the decision 2 years ago never to purchase from that store again until she no longer is an employee there. I may still get my chance to gloat in 6 month's time after her unemployment checks run out and she is ringing up my purchases at Walmart clearance event.1 point

I agree...Service Merchandise will make a comeback. One day when Amazon falters, people will say, "Consumers want to see, hold and touch products before they buy! Amazon didn't figure that out."1 point

This company just doesn't seem to get it. Anytime I go into a Toys R Us and I see things there that aren't in other store locations, you can bet 99% of the time, I can pull up target.com, walmart.com or toys r us.com on my phone, and find it cheaper online. I then have to go to the dang register and price match it. The Toy's R Us tax is a big time hindrance, and they never seemed to get this. This is why most mom and shop stops will go under as well if they either 1. don't sell online too to supplement their business income 2. don't try to compete with the free market (which is now a big influence online). Because of their stupidity by forcing the "toys r' us" tax, even a 7 year old like my son knows that he can spend his money on amazon, even if he has to wait, and he will still have more money to spend, then if he bought the same item at TRU. It's sad to watch them go, but on the same token they were their own undoing.1 point

I asked the live chat-based CS about the very same thing, the rep said that this was their lingo for an online order going to the warehouse to be fulfilled. I guess it's just different terms for the process than what we might be used to with LEGO SAH, for example. She indicated that the estimated delivery window should still be valid. I worried that they were waiting for the vendor to fulfill the inventory so that they could ship it out. I'll keep holding my breath until I actually get a shipping confirmation. I did complain once to CS about losing $50 of rewards dollars on an order that they cancelled and she gave me $100 as an apology. Of course, that assumes that there would be anything left to use them on or anyone available to help. Might be cyclical. If Amazon benefits from other brick & mortar businesses being their showroom, then when they disappear and the cost of business goes up because of all of the free returns or free returns goes away, I can imagine a market opportunity for "catalog showrooms" and try-before-you-buy opportunities to make a comeback, especially as one-day or same-day delivery gets perfected. Also, as the brick & mortars go away, the loss of revenue will drive governments to find ways of taxing e-commerce and warehouses more and more, as that cost goes up, a brick-and-mortar might become viable again. Will probably also make a difference how much revenue is lost through credit card fraud versus shoplifting + credit card fraud at a physical store.1 point

Since I started rolling up with my own cart and boxes I've had multiple people ask me what aisle the ________ s are in as if I work there. And a few days ago I had about 60 sets loaded up and asked an employee if she had any more in back... She asked me if there was a recall- because she thought I was there to remove all the Lego stock.1 point

In the context of TLJ: Aside from the broom kid at the end, the rest of the males are portrayed as basically negative. Luke is weak. He actually considered murdering his nephew and Jedi pupil. He's in hiding. He's a coward. Etc. He sort of redeems himself at the end but I don't really consider his death all that honorable. It was a parlor trick type thing. Meh. Lazy writing too. I don't even care if astral projection is a Jedi power in some nerd encyclopedia as the director needlessly tries to prove in his passive aggressive twitter feed(good art doesn't need explanation). Finn is a coward without a strong female at his side. Poe is reckless and has to be slapped around by a couple of women. Kylo is a spoiled brat with force powers who is continually put in his place by a girl who thinks the force is the ability to move rocks around. I mean we can go round and round with this discussion. I can accept a bad movie for being bad. The prequels were bad in a lot ways but at least they were trying to tell an epic story: The rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker. Lucas had a vision. I just don't enjoy a movie that puts an agenda ahead of good storytelling. With this sequel trilogy there is no vision. They're making it up as they go using the agenda to propel things (which is leading to a train wreck). At the end of TLJ I honestly couldn't tell you what this sequel trilogy is about and I really could care less at this point.1 point
