Was at the mall last night and walked into a Disney Store. I was bewildered when I saw two Star Was Millennium Falcon 75105 just sitting on the shelf with a sticker price of priced at $106.99 At the register, I asked if there was any more available and the cashier said, they have more how many do I need. Did I want to take all of them.... I said I'll take as many as I can afford, but if you have 50 + units, I can't afford that many I asked them if they can check their stock first. Cashier comes back and she was told that 4 more were available. I told the nice cashier OK, I will take all 4 plus the 2 units on the counter. When I was getting rung up. The 4 sets in the back were not 75105 as they claimed, but were First Order Star Destroyer 75190 for $169.95. LOL. Item was scanned and it was marked $106.99 each. So I walked out with the 2x 75105 @ 106.xx + a Buzz Lightyear 12" Talking Action Figure @ $20 plus had to buy an reusable ECO bag for 50 cents.4 points

I think opinions on here are very often clearly skewed based on personal situation. I have amassed about £1200 (current retail) worth of sets for medium term keep including F40, S5, DB, YS, etc. This has taken four months. They stand me in absolutely nothing - essentially free - because of sets like 70917. These sort of flips are perfect for me. Mine has sold at £85 cash, with a two minute local ad being the only work involved. The same margin with other ‘turkeys’ like police stations, ski lifts, bb8’s, heavy assault walkers, etc. If anybody can make £15 easier for a few minutes work then I take my hat off to you. I appreciate everybody has different agendas and there are different types of investing going on. Whilst I read the comments of others with interest and value opinions of those with far greater experience than me, for here and now my personal plan / hobby continues to work without stress, in my own time, and in a way I am more than happy with.1 point

Well said Feed - really balanced view. There is a modest to decent profit at that price not a super one. too many people just go to polar extremes. It's either a turd or pure gold for them, when in practice I think there's relatively few of either spectrum, but rather a spread across those.1 point

Of course there is value in the set. If you can’t make money buying 8 batman figs and 1456 parts at £70 you’re really in the wrong game. Are there better areas in put your capital, well that’s a different question and the answer is probably, yes. But I wouldn’t pay any attention to the comments here anymore, if i were you, only the negative opinions remain. Those of of us that see the upside and opportunities, don't bother anymore.1 point

I'm not sure you can always trust those BiN prices as often there are a few outliers that skew the data and, when you add in ebay and PayPal fees, the effort of packing and posting, and then potential for returns or complaints it can very quickly become a pain in the arse. Personally, I love the minifigs in these Batman sets and have bought a few for myself for that reason. However, the models themselves don't inspire. I actually prefer a lot of the Ninjago sets aesthetically. But, at this point, it's all just opinions. I'll be watching with interest, that's for sure.1 point

pretty sure the big set is just a Thanos set too. Guess didn't want to many Milanos out there?? yeah 76107-1: Thanos: Ultimate Battle technically no mention of Milano, just in reviews calling it the new Milano, maybe movie spoiler. Just thought it was funny with such a generic name1 point

Just realized that IF the $5 in points cards were indeed multiple use per account, and IF I had spotted them before I started checking out, I could have bought that lot for $44+tax by ringing the first 11 up full price with $5 back each, and then using the accumulated points plus the points I had to buy the remainder Or buy all 30 one by one and end up with $150 in points for $120 spent .... What a missed opportunity! *wink*1 point

lol true, but since it is only available in store this might be the last chance for Canadians to get one. Web Warriors was similar with its new 89.99 price and it dipped to $71 yesterday which was enough to get me to bite, and I did the same with the CLAAS when it dropped to $127. I like those two better for future prospects but who knows...this set clearly won't be widely hoarded and maybe the series finale of Rebels will spark some interest. I only have a few at any rate, even at $75 I wouldn't want a dozen of these.1 point

By the time the sets are in resellers hands, LEGO has made their money. We've talked at great length about his before .. whether LEGO likes resellers or not, whether scarcity of product is good for their image or not, whether higher secondary market prices allow them to raise their prices. etc. In the end, we just don't know but love to speculate. As for the Taj Mahal, is it being unhappy with scarce sets or was someone thinking - you know, we've had a down year and had to let some people go.. We just don't have the time or money to do new designs for every market segment we're trying to reach... what if we re-release a popular but rare set? A few die hard collectors will be upset but we'll be making a larger part of the market happy. Less design time, update the packaging a little, boom, easy money. Or did they say - let's make people happy and release a set from our vault no matter whether we make money on it or not! (I know that's dramatic, but in the end they do this to make money...) Just look at the death star fiasco... giving it a new number and making some extremely minor cosmetic changes blew up in their face PR wise. Sure people are buying it because who doesn't want a death star, but it was not the happy reception they expected. People -rightly so IMO- saw it as a money grab. I know minifigs aren't that kind of money grab, but its one of the only things they could get away with in the "mystery loot" schemes - which companies do to make money. Who'd buy a box of random lego blocks unsure if it built a car or a boat. The average buyer doesn't give up and just go to ebay... it's part of the attraction to "just one more time." It's addictive just like gambling (no, I'm not saying LEGO is gambling). I honestly think LEGO likely approaches it this way: it's fun and will make us more money. People can't just buy the one they like but they'll have fun trying to find it. I'm pretty good at smooshing the bags (smooshing is the technical term for feeling up the bags) but it's time consuming.. it would be a lot more fun to just buy them blindly. Given the odds of finding the CMF(s) you want in a retail store vs some of those online games (gachas), the odds are pretty good... And there have been some well documented cases of companies making the rare items even rarer than advertised - LEGO doesn't do that. In fact, by shipping them in cases of 60, the true distribution becomes known very quickly vs companies that do not disclose the rates at all. To me that shows two things .. 1) they do care about customers and 2) they know this is good enough to make their money on them.1 point

The whole point of blind packaging is to have consumers spend more than they normally would to get what they want. If TLG wanted everyone to pick the ones they wanted they could have made them individually labeled foil packs with the character on the front. Sure, some people can feel what they need and it's easy for them, but the average person has no idea how to do this and they just buy them blindly.1 point

Yay, you went to MIT. I have plenty of math edumacation. Heck, I've even had to use it in real life to add some numbers a few times. Until these latest series, it's always been exactly 16 unique figures and 60 figures to a box. If they wanted it to be even, they could have just put 3 full sets in a box ... that's 3 x 16 = 48 for those who didn't go to MIT. Still would have made a nice shaped box with 3 rows of figures per box. They could have also been a little more even if they wanted a box of 60 for whatever strange reason. 12*4 + 4*3 = 60 (sorry, that math is a little more complicated, remember your order of operations https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_operations). So how long have you been collecting CMFs and following LEGO as a company?1 point

I think liar is a strong word, but I don't think she's being completely honest. Go back and look at the figures that are 5x in the series and tell me those are the ones you want most. There's a reason they are the stragglers when the box is about empty.1 point
-
exactly 3 of each one per box? I don't think that's true. The guest of Tara Wike (Lead CMF Designer) said in this interview (starting at 2:40) "They're not randomly distributed, but they're not equally distributed?" and she confirmed, "Some are more frequent". "If we think one will be really popular, we try to make it more frequent."1 point

There are usually several indicators that show gender specific minifigs. Eyelashes for one of course. Sometimes there is extra make up like lipstick would typically be female. Facial hair like beard stubble would be considered male. Then there are times when the face is just a simple smiley face like the police officer which could be considered gender neutral and you can choose to do whatever you want with it. Even if those features weren't enough, there are hair, torso, and costume options that can relatively determine gender. Head piece is not the only factor. In the end, a minifigure is not male or female, it is a collection of pieces that presents a view of the creator's vision. What does the phrase "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts" mean? It means that there is such a connection among the individual items that it is better than what each one would be individually. This is known as synergy.1 point

I happily bought the set and built it. And the fact that it's been on backorder since it first came out seems to tell me that the market of people actually buying it is much bigger than you guys think. My guess is, because of you guys who are primarily investors, live in your little investor bubble world, but what you forget is that as a percentage, you guys are tiny compared to the end users buying up product.1 point
